I have no training or real practice in singing, so keep that in mind when evaluating what I’m asking. I’ve been thinking a bit about vocal range. In terms of pitch I can easily speak within the full range for a typical female speaking voice (as can just about everyone who has gone through a male puberty, to be honest), it’s just a matter of dialing in the timbre. But I want to be able to sing as a cis woman would, not as an actual singer in any trained or professional sense per se, but enough that I could do bar karaoke and nobody would clock me.
My full range as I just measured it is B2 or so before I bottom out to roughly Eb5 when I push it, with a comfortable range between roughly C2 and Bb4. I guess that makes me a tenor, but I had one person with some singing training tell me I was a baritone based just off my speaking voice. I’m not really sure what the most appropriate way to classify it is.
My goal would be to be able to hit most of the mezzo-soprano range, able to sing up to maybe F5 or G5 and have it sound convincingly feminine. I don’t need to sound like Ariana Grande, but it’d be awesome to emulate Christina Scabbia.
I know people are going to come in here and tell me it depends on whether or not I have the right physiology and downplay anyone who claims training can improve your range, but I don’t believe that for a second. I’ve seen plenty of anecdotes that makes it clear that the body is a lot more flexible than people give it credit for.
People on singing forums seem pretty convinced that your “voice type” is immutable, so I’m not going to go there to try to get a good answer. Trans voice training is technically quite different from regular singing training, as I understand it.
