They should increase prices to improve customers morale.

53

u/ColdFreezer 5h ago

If they double their prices they’re basically doubling their profits. Easy fix.

3

u/bonestamp 4h ago

That's the thing, they have fewer shipments than Samsung but they're still making more profit than Samsung.

u/LeoFoster18 4h ago

Samsung is just wiping their tears with million dollar bills by milking the 💩 out of memory shortages.

-3

u/appleparkfive 3h ago

Yeah I think people see Apple's revenue and assume that they're just wiping the floor with everyone. Android is still much more popular around the world, unless something's changed recently

And companies care about profit first and not marketshare

Read the article, 1% difference in global market share by volume. Apple has been catching Samsung for years now.

16

u/Tucancancan 6h ago

Then berate and shame potential customers for being poor for not already having an apple device

u/za72 4h ago

It my fault, I'm still using an iphone8+

-2

u/Jeptic 5h ago

Absolutely. The customers still buying can dig deeper.

-2

u/Mackinnon29E 4h ago

They keep increasing prices making people want to upgrade EVEN LESS than they already were.

Obviously no one has read the article, global smartphone sales are down and Apple is 1% market share behind Samsung. The article finishes with: ‘Overall, the iPhone seems to be doing better than ever’

Read the article? Sir, what kinda place do you think this is?

1

u/Jotacon8 1h ago

I thought this was a Wendy’s.

12

u/COPE_V2 4h ago

My friend this is Reddit. Not Readit. Do you think we’re a bunch of nerds that actually read?

11

u/boobearybear 3h ago

Exactly!

“Due to the ongoing industry-wide RAM shortage, worldwide smartphone shipments reportedly saw a 20% decrease year-over-year. Even so, the market was dominated by Apple and Samsung, and both companies managed to increase their market share.”

u/fardaw 1h ago

To be fair almost every article posted on reddit is paywalled, an obscure/dubious site or so full of ads that the text is barely readable. Usually more than one of the above.

Ewww, read the article? Not happening. We're all about vibe posting here.

u/Extreme_Garden8209 2h ago

What's the point of market share when market it self is shrinking?

-1

u/Kirihuna 4h ago

Sorry, this is r/technology, we have to circle-jerk Apple takes that are at least eight years late, much like their foldable. Apple bad, m’Kay. Glory to the eternal Google empire.

Maybe they should add another camera

13

u/Single_Shoe2817 5h ago

Apple hire him

Give me a charger camera

2

u/milkywayer 5h ago

What if we put a camera in your ear phones and also a screen on your phone charger ? Would you like a screen on your charging cable as well ?

1

u/Single_Shoe2817 5h ago

Jokes aside they are making charger cables with tiny screens next to the adapter side and it just feels oh so wasteful

2

u/McPhage 4h ago

Why not put one on the side!

4

u/Tha_Sly_Fox 5h ago

Hmm, we already took their headphones, wall charging port…. What if we just remove the ability to make and receive phone calls in the next one?

3

u/Berserker76 2h ago

How many more metrics do we need to see to know we are already in a recession?

Smartphone sales at a 13 year low, PC’s at a decade low, home sales 12 year low.

If the current administration was not intentionally inflating and misreporting economic data, the evidence would be more clear.

Did you read the article?

Consumer electronics are dying sadly.

This won't hurt apple they are siphoning money from us via services that's the real money maker now.

What they're going to do is probably shut down more stores lay off more working class employees and innovate even less

9

u/dropthemagic 4h ago

That's like saying cars are dying. Phones are what we use the most in our lives for everything. Might not be a brand or a new one. But it's no longer optional to have a smart phone

1

u/Shoddy_Meaning_7654 2h ago

Obviously but I think the era of people buying a lot of consumer electronics often it's dying because people are getting poorer jobs are getting less comfortable and common and I think things like TV and audio equipment are just going to become rich people things they're going to stop being things that working class people buy.

14

u/gerblnutz 6h ago

They should invest another 4 billion into developing a box that opens as slow as possible again. Maybe it can be slowlier?

4

u/gentmick 4h ago

Samsung has prioritized short term ai profits over long term phone market. Samsung about to lose even more market share

3

u/WantToTypeComments55 3h ago

I can only speak for myself, but I'm on an old iPhone 13 mini I got back in 2020 iirc.  I would upgrade, but all the phones I've seen in recent years are too big

6

u/TappinThatErr 3h ago

Apple phones last longer than cheap Android phones.

9

u/tiradium 3h ago

Not just cheap ones. Every flagship from Samsung loses value faster than iPhones do

1

u/21Rollie 1h ago

And Google. When I was considering switching, I was looking at trade-in prices (because I usually only upgrade after ~5 years of ownership) and literally all androids were worthless by then. Then I got curious and looked at the value of last year’s most expensive pixel, the folding pixel, and comparing it to last year’s base model iPhone. The base model iPhone was worth more on Pixel’s own trade-in program.

I get that there are people who don’t care because they buy all their phones full price but that’s not me, I usually trade in and get the last year’s model to maximize the value. So even tho I want to try it out I rather not spend the money. And android is beginning to lock down too so the selling point is fading

u/OutsideMenu6973 2h ago

My A16 cost $50 new in California. Got 4 so me and my kids can have portable gaming devices. The price of buying a screen protector and case on them would exceed the cost of the phones themselves. Why would I sell these for any drop in value or not they gave sentimental value

2

u/tiradium 2h ago edited 1h ago

A series is not a flagship and its actually a perfect phone for kids because it can generally be used for calling only. Also with the current mess of memory market you can forget buying a new A series for $50

0

u/OutsideMenu6973 1h ago

The fact it isn’t a flagship still has a 6.7” OLED screen can emulate PS1 games and yes they cost $50 at Best Buy right now (Google it) is incredible

5

u/JMDeutsch 5h ago

It’s almost like when times are tough, people realize they don’t need a new phone that is 1 x 1 mm larger and comes in goatse magenta

3

u/Soggy_Definition_232 6h ago

They should increase the price and remove more features other phones have had for over a decade.

iOS brick update coming

1

u/LetLongjumping 2h ago

Apple is not interested in unit market share, it is focused on revenue market share. And, if you are a business focused on profitability, the latter is more important than the former!

1

u/DoubletapKO 3h ago

People still on their iphone 13 pro Max, when is the last time you heard someone doing the same with whatever android that was released in that same year

1

u/Wauwuaw5983 2h ago

Between the cost of phones, the crumbling economy, and younger adults finally being forced to come to grips that nobody can live off of perpetual unsecured debt.

Although a single snapshop of Samsung sales vs Apple sales doesn't mean squat in the short term.

But idk this comment just gives me fuck America redditor superiority vibes

Cant wait to plug in my headphones on my new three thousand dollar phone!

4

u/Robot-Zombie-RHCC 4h ago

would you please clarify if you mean Apple or Samsung?

-11

u/Secure-Frosting 6h ago

Nice to see

u/Glisan_Al_Gaib 5h ago

Its so funny working a construction-facing architecture job where I have to take and share a ton of photos off of my Android vs. iPhone using coworkers. Its so backwards and complicated for them to share full-sized jpegs that will work with other software instead of their silly .heic file type.

11

u/hikeonpast 5h ago

It’s a single setting in the camera app

-18

u/Glisan_Al_Gaib 5h ago

Great I'll just have everyone at the firm change their settings and theyll all do it lol

Then the photos themselves are a pain to share without it compressing them whereas I just send myself a Samsung gallery link and download to our server

I've unsuccessfully given instructions on how to do this multiple times, its just a clear drawback of their walled ecosystem

2

u/Vulltrax 4h ago

Sending photos to a shared web link is literally 2 taps, Share -> Create Shared Album Link.

-1

u/Glisan_Al_Gaib 4h ago

Why is it so difficult for practicing architects, some with PhD's, to figure out when told of the issue?

-6

u/oddTaskJob 4h ago

Maybe donate some more gold shit to the WH.

-18

u/D3rpyDriver 5h ago

It's almost like apple sells outdated, overpriced garbage devices whose only purpose is to separate narcissists from their money

8

u/mmavcanuck 4h ago

Didn’t read the article eh?

3

u/Moonskaraos 3h ago

Hey, he read the headline, which probably took some effort.

I think they shot them selves in the foot with the Israeli chip. Especially after finding out about the beeper explosions. The price is obvious. It’s so expensive.

3

u/COPE_V2 4h ago

You think the average person that’s not a basement dweller knows their cellular chips come from Israel? Lmao

-3

u/CandyRevolutionary27 4h ago

Didn’t know u had to be a basement dweller in order to watch the news. Or read articles. U projecting?

0

u/COPE_V2 3h ago

You are giving the average consumer far too much credit thinking the Israeli chips are a reason for a loss of market share. These conversations are few and far between outside of Reddit. The Venn diagram of people that care about the source of these chips and the average Apple consumer barely overlap

-2

u/CandyRevolutionary27 3h ago

Maybe ur right. Who the fook knows.
