General Discusson Gonna be reviewing people's music again soon, drop your song in comments
Hello, everybody. I used to be pretty active in this sub, reviewing people's music and making playlists of the best i find from the sub. I took a pretty long hiatus after my dog passed away bc there was just so much else going on in life too. I wanted to reach back out and start community building w yall again if you give me a chance. Drop your original song, no remixes, I do not review ai slop.

More so dropping this to plug it. Lool. This is a slowed down version of the original song. Thus far, I think this one of my better works in house.
I mainly do lofi/emo rap-hip hop. So I’m just starting in my house endeavor.

I will be upfront, as I've said to many artist who ive reviewed, House is undoubtedly my least favorite edm genre lol but I always try to give people as fair and full thorough review. I have reviewed a couple house tracks I really ended up liking

Trippy DnB, not too shabby. Flaws I've noticed: vocals a bit too dry/damped, sub bass is too loud, song dapping in too many fields (it's spooky, eerie, then switches in between gothic themes and regular Jungle), or in other words, it sounds like 2-3 songs in one, hope that makes sense...? and there are too many weird sudden pauses and breaks

Dope song, i love how the sounds really jump between my headphones. That did inspire me a bit actually.
Vocals being are too damp? muddy? for a song with so many clean sounds imo. But fucking nice!

May be a coincidence that its showing Fatboy Slim tracks in the related section but that's quite fitting for what's delivered here. Didn't like the two long breaks in there. I'd cut everything before 0:58 and rework the section at 4:00 to be more interesting. The extra bassline afterwards is clashing for space too.

This was one of the first tracks i worked on so yeah I didn't have any idea about keeping the mix at low volume while producing (so I had tons of audio clipping), made this track in about 5 hours and then really think much of it
The biggest issue for me is that I use ableton live lite so there is an 8 track limitation which is REALLY frustrating
Recently I've been listening to more artists like junkie xl or cirrus so hopefully I can think of some more ideas to fill this track with once I'm done w my exams in 3 months. Cheers

Mostly second this. But think the part before 0:58 is interesting but needs rework, instead of just slowly increasing the volume. Maybe playing around with and introducing elements at that part could end up giving the full song some flavor.
Imo the bassline clashing for space fits the chaotic vibe. But maybe thats just me not being good enough at making clean music that ive got stockholm syndrome for the muddiness xD

i haven't posted fleshed out songs yet, but i enjoy toying around with sounds, melodies, and experimenting with minimal guitar gear and loops; i record all of it directly through my phone, without mastering or mixing anything, but it has a lo-fi quality i appreciate. it's mostly ambient/indie/noise stuff. would love an opinion on these two:

Really interesting songs, im so used to trying to make sounds that sounds like that through mixing and mastering.
I kinda forgot that just recording it on "simpler" stuff makes for an interesting and authentic sound.

Thank you so much for your feedback, really appreciate it. i think there is something beautiful that happens when you work under constraints, you tend to get interesting stuff by trying to bypass your limits :)
thanks for the love for the james brown track as well, it was something we jammed with good friends of mine (i played the guitar with the delay effect and kept on toying with the frequency knob on this one) and im glad it got appreciated in spite of its rough nature. i'll tell the boys it got some love!! best of luck in all your musical and artistic endeavours.

Haha i remember that track, it sounded very genuine and like a good time, but also a very interesting sound. Maybe that combined with it rough nature made it what it was? Who knows, either way keep it up!

Sorry to hear about your dog... Sometimes life just hits like that, in a terrible avalanche of events. I lost two good friends in the same week not too long ago - it was not great, but somehow, life just keeps on moving.

I make kinda gothy/post-punk/emo? inspired electronic music? Or honestly i just find interesting sounds and start mashing em together until something starts happening.

This one is a bit different. I help a group of refugee singers who record songs in Kakuma Refugee Camp in Kenya. They have pretty basic recording equipment but make good music. It is a project that a refugee singer and I worked on to try to help refugees with royalties. One 14 year old kid recently covered Bob Dylan with a rap which is fun. We had 3 Bob Dylan raps but I am still working on getting the license for the other two. I will put the playlist of all their songs as well. Only two are cover songs (Desolation Row and Wish You Were Here). The rest are refugee originals.

The vocals sounded super strange. Not just to me, other people watching the stream too. The lyrics felt like one of them Iranian Lego propaganda videos. It was super, idk, formulaic to the point of making me question if it was even written by a person. I'll review it on stream next time, but that will probably be my reaction still even w the claim that it isnt.

interesting. i use a custom processing chain for vocals — do you listen to much EDM? again, more than happy to send you whatever you need to refute your claim… pretty wild that you’re just gonna stand by it lol. and yes, i’m currently in a hiatus and stepping away from social media altogether. i was playing shows heavily from 2012-2019 and never really got back into it after covid, mainly produce as a hobby and for clients now.
i’d be more than happy to give you some lessons and tutorials sometime!

the lyrics are a pitched up and hyper processed ab-soul sample lmao, i didn’t write or perform them. it’s cool if you don’t vibe with my style, i’m not out to impress anyone anymore. i’ve notched several label releases and my music has allowed me the opportunity to tour half the united states and connect with some of my idols in the scene.
i personally feel you’re hyper-fixated on AI and are almost looking to find it in the stuff you review. i appreciate your time & opinions brotha! would be more than happy to show you how i process things and run you through a project file tutorial or two so you can see my workflow. also happy to run you through my mix & mastering process.

Naw, you dont gotta do all that. If the vocals are just a short loop of a sample, I literally just cut out too early after seeing some red flags cause i thought u were the rapper not the engineer/producer. There was like 2 other ones that were unquestionably ai before you. I'll go back and give it a real listen next stream.

If u want to give constructive feedback just serch for my username on anything, I would welcome it, I domt do ai stuff but use ai to generate my cover art because im a composer not an artist, the music is mostly chill out, ambiance, no loops or pre made patterns, just go old fationed note by note

I tend to discourage people from using ai at all cause you can commission some cover art for real cheap, support other artists and all that, but I'll let it slide since you clearly care about ur music as an analog project. Link a specific song if u want reviewed so I don't miss it next time

I tend not to give links in this group, normally If I post my music i do it in appropriate groups, or pay to advertise it though I have a tech issue at the mo so dont want to draw to much attention at this stage, if I was making anything from my work ur right I would hire a real artists to create the artwork, but right now its just for fun as a hobbie, been making stuff since the late 80s
