General Discusson Is Soundcloud still relevant?
I make alternative Hip-Hop and moved away from SoundCloud in the past to focus on Spotify and YouTube. However, I am trying to figure out whether there is possibility of it being a useful outlet for my music ventures.
I am interested in meeting niche artists and producers, and can’t think of a better place. Is it still relevant For underground community?

Seeing as Spotify is taking the wrong stance on AI music, I have even less incentive to leave SoundCloud anytime soon. I know it’s a small demographic but there are people who only use SoundCloud

What you mean by stance on ai music? That they allow it? I think ai music will die out over time, AI is a cool tool but I think it’s a bubble.

not just allowing it but promoting it. People do not want it but there’s now tons of it on the platform. There’s also a bunch on SoundCloud but they are not actively pushing it the way Spotify is, SoundCloud appears to just not be adequately set-up to filter it out.

It's a great place for like-minded producers and artists. Not so great if you're looking to get streaming numbers up or anything though. It's mainly just a good place for communicating with other artists now and file storage and sharing to other platforms. Just don't do anything with monetization. I've heard so many horror stories about people not getting paid for anything and not getting enough listens

My issue is that i created my youtube channel first. I enabled content id on all my songs then started getting copywright strikes on all my videos. I put in a ticket and got content id removed, but now when i update a song on youtube with a music video i get instantly flagged for copywright on my own songs. I have to go through dispute, which gets immediately rejected, and then appeal to remove the copy wright. I have another ticket in.

Wish you luck with that, yeah, its worth carefully checking out the effects of various tools before using them. I paid for norton antivirus, for example, that shit literally destroyed my internet connection and I had to remove it in the end.

Good tip, I used to pay artist pro only to have like 7 views.

I usually get around 300 to 1k. I got more views from reddit lol.

I will upload the newer music and we will see. Good to see it works for you though.

SoundCloud is the absolute best platform for an Indy artist. You ain’t get that amount of listeners looking for the Indy sound anywhere.

Yes, I am carving out unique artist identity and it feels like going mainstream means being bland. I love Bones and I think the way he went about his career is one of the healthiest approaches. Along with Dolph.

Do you guys want to hear mine? I just uploaded these two songs this morning. I'm new on Soundcloud but distributed thru distrokid and bandcamp too. Soundcloud seems to be the only one that gets any plays, likes, and reshares LOL

I think it is. I am fairly new to SoundCloud and while I disdain the AI crap I am learning some work-arounds. Im finding there are a lot of real, very talented people there and we are finding each other. I've had lots of good input on my songs so far, and I've made some friends who make both music like mine, and music very different from mine. I say go for it, keep your eyes and ears open. Let people know when you like something, repost something that you love and I believe people will come to you, and you to them. I still have faith in SoundCloud if this AI thing can find its proper place.

The AI will die out soon. I find it romantical that making real music is now double the rebellion it was before, ‘cause the corporate fucks literally use robots to make it now. 😂

Hopefully you're right about "ai" dying out. The music industry hasn't stopped exploiting artists and churning out soulless crap. People haven't stopped listening to it. Scenes still exist where it's about something beyond that. I'm half expecting an "ai" Taylor Swift to release a punk album to a fan base that cheers unironically.

I think the world is changing. The current music industry is a relic of the past. It may still take some time, but I believe the future of music is actually great.

Add us up! I'm down to see what we can do! Although since the hype edit drama soundscloud algorithm has been messed up.

Cool sounds, do you make more electronic-based instrumentals too?
2
u/Grouchy_Earth1063 Jun 25 '26
Yeah broski, make all my synths etc in serum and nexus in a pinch! But yeah I make everything electronic, edm, hard techno up basically! My main genre is tech house and big room buy I just live making everything 😅
Appreciate you though homie ❤

I still find it relevant not only as a place to post and distribute music, but also to discover. I actively use the "feed" tab to discover new music artists by seeing what others have reposted and stuff.

I'm considering updating my account to have more than 3 hour of mixes but struggling to justify with YouTube

I live in the middle of the woods and I've managed to make a couple of friends on SoundCloud. I'm still a rookie experimenting, but add me if you're interested and I would be happy to check you out.
I'm also interested in other connection ideas. My closest city has basically no scene and the next closest city is like 3 hours so away hard to meet up with people on scene
