Have you ever made a character that's supposed to be related to an npc?
From a roleplay perspective of course, I'm on a switch so no mods. I posted a comment about this character recently but was curious to see how many other people may have done something similar. This has been one of my favorite playthroughs.
Anyways, this is Aisling the Huntress.

I’m running a character who is supposed to be the bastard sister of Jarl Siddgeir of Falkreath, who was betrayed by him. That’s her motivation for joining the Stormcloaks.

The live another life (alternate start) mod has the option of being Erik the Slayer’s childhood friend.
edit: mod not quest

I’m using that in my current play. My character wants to be a shield-maiden and they set together on an adventure to become famous. I named her Gunnhildr Strong-Shield. After a bad encounter with Talmor due to wearing an amulet of Talos, she seeks to join the Stormcloaks. She uses axes and a shield, and eventually nordic armor and the jagged crown, when she learns she’s heir to the line of King Borgas directly from his draugr form. She runs away with the crown when she discovers how bad Ulfric treats non nords, and then…. I’ll see where the game takes me.

Lmao try to make an exact copy of a follower 🤣

u/SirCupcake_0 Scholar 4h ago
I don't know if it works for SE, but there was a mod that turns your character into an NPC follower, it even tried to copy your playstyle

u/Hot_Let1571 Skyrim Grandma Fan 3h ago
Familiar Faces? That was a fun one on Oldrim. People say it doesn't work right for SE and didn't get ported over properly. :(

I think that's right, a shame that it didn't work out, it looked really cool

u/Important_Apple_6650 4h ago
I had thought about that, but I still haven't done it yet lol. Anyway, it's very interesting!

I have not, but you’re making me want to lol. Hmmm 🤔 now I gotta think about which character I’d want my Dragonborn to be related to.

u/reddeer97 4h ago
Tbh i picked Aela because I felt like a build similar to her would be a kickass werewolf vampire hunter, but I'm level 42 and still havent done the dawngaurd lol. I think i want to do the middle child of Idgrod Ravencrone next
6
u/PsychicSPider95 4h ago
Idgrod the Middle lol
5
u/reddeer97 4h ago
Or, since the oldest is already "Idgrod the younger," it could be "Idgrod the youngerer"

Not a NPC exactly, but I find the dark brotherhood dunmer that appears in the loading screen pretty badass with that red hair

Lately, I’ve been thinking about making an Imperial who is a distant descendant of Reman Cyrodiil, which makes them the heir of the Empire.

u/claritywitch 3h ago
I’ve thought about playing the descendant of my Hero of Kvatch and Martin Septim

Not NPC but lore character
I did a somewhat generic Nord woman for the purposes of the main quest named Nora Windcaller
3
4
u/DriftTorettoXD 3h ago
yeah, i did, absolutely. i had this nord woman called Violet the Unbroken, where she was Uthgerd's daughter. I'd roleplay her as starting as a stormcloak soldier at the start of Helgen, and later sought refugee in Whiterun at her mother's place. She'd have an interesting dynamic with the companions, since it's Uthgerd's lore that she was kicked out of the companions, and it would be cool that the daughter of a banned woman became the Harbinger
More into the roleplay, Violet would hold a grudge against Aela, who didn't saw Uthgerd with honor at all. And despite this hard relationship, the two girls respected each other overall
2
u/reddeer97 3h ago
Oh i like that a lot. If my character was an npc, I feel like she'd be the perfect follower for your character.
1
u/DriftTorettoXD 2h ago
that would be cool, i only play skyrim for the roleplay anyway. normaly Violet's follower is her mother, Uthgerd herself — because after discovering her daughter almost had her head chopped off, she became over protective
it's fun to imagine Uthgerd seeing her daughter swallow the soul of a dragon or being praised by the greybeards. and a bit heartwarming seeing that Violet having all this glory after Uthgerd was personally banned from the companions and spend most of her days drinking at the back of the inn. really going from a drunk hopeless to a proud mother
but then again, having Aela's sister as a follower could totally be very cool. two werewolves. while one sister is friends with Violet, the other thinks she shouldn't be a companion at all due to her mother
have i mentioned i love roleplaying?

u/gtc26 4h ago
Yeah! Usually it's as a descendant of an NPC (or player character) from a prior TES game...
For example, my current (well, first) playthrough of Oblivion is a descendant of Lady Brisienna (initially planned on great-grandson, then remembered the timespan between Daggerfall and Oblivion is way shorter than I remembered, and is now retconned to being her son lol)
3
u/reddeer97 4h ago
That's a really cool idea. Skyrim is my only TES game, I'll need to read up on my lore and give that a try.

I once made a character that was related to that dark elf bard in Windhelm. I also made another dark elf with the name Morvayn, then I realized that the name of the Raven Rock councilor, then I was like ‘welp, guess we’re cousins.’

u/Nerevarine91 Chef 3h ago
This happened to me in Oblivion- I made a character with the surname “Terentius,” which made him related to Regulus Terentius, Count of Bravil

u/22lpierson 3h ago
Not npc but I've tied my two high elves together as brothers born in the late merethic era. They used to have a sister but well....nords weren't to fond of elves back then and her being naive thought things wouldn't be bad. Anyway one has become a litch and plans to kill the gods and the other was chosen by auriel to eventually stop his brother thus why both were alive in eso and still alive by skyrim

u/FluffPantsMysterious PC 3h ago edited 1h ago
Yes. My current playthrough is a Dark Elf whose mother was a Dark Elf who worked in Windhelm and was in a situationship with her employer, a Nord who was a Stormcloak. (If you're familiar with racial phylogeny then you know that children get their mother's traits.) His mom never told him exactly who his dad was, just that he was a stormcloak that she was working for who sent her away when he found out she was pregnant. In my mind the Stormcloak is Ulfric, and I did sculpt my character's face to look similar to Ulfric but with Dunmer browline/ears/skin color.

I once though of a relative to Roggvir arriving at Solitude, swears revenge on him so joins the stormcloaks.

u/FormalAd1166 1h ago
I played as an adult Aventus Aretino once, like he had been sent back in time. Had a whole story about it and why it happened and he basically just became Skyrims version of a vigilante
2
u/ironshadowspider 1h ago
That's awesome! What did you do with the family heirloom you gave yourself? And did your character remember having been the child Aventus you encounter in the game and encountering yourself?

u/Dependent-Departure7 Thief 4h ago
Coincidentally enough, my favorite OC was headcanon related to Kodlak

Yes I tried a vampire character who was the daughter of the count of Skingrad from Oblivion

Yes! My Dunmer character is the grandson of Athyn Sarethi, a House Redoran Councilor from Morrowind. In Morrowind, Athyn’s son Varvur Sarethi commits a murder while being influenced by a Sixth House statue. The Nerevarine has to clear his name and get rid of the statue in order to become the House Redoran Hortator.
I sort of headcanon that, while Varvur’s name was cleared and it’s understood that he isn’t responsible for what happened, he still ended up leaving Ald’ruhn and House Redoran as a result. His son, Dalvus Sarethi, is the Dragonborn.
Also, one of my Oblivion PCs is just Varvur Sarethi himself. I think of it as two separate timelines- if he gets arrested in Cyrodiil, he becomes the Hero of Kvatch. If he doesn’t, his son becomes Dragonborn.

u/Monotreme_monorail 3h ago
Yes actually right now! I’m playing a dark elf named Morgiah who is the child of a bastard of Helseth.
She’ll be following in the footsteps of Barenziah, joining the thieves guild and getting the stones and crown as quickly as possible.
1
u/reddeer97 3h ago
That's a good one, i love the thieves guild. Also, have fun with your unruly amount if gems!
2
u/Hungry-Swing4257 2h ago
Yes! I made Gunjar's son (the first dead storm cloak you loot) I took his armor & axe in his honor an upgraded it, never sold it, an renamed it after him when I enchanted it. I never became the dragon born, only did the Civil War quest
2
u/getvalentined 1h ago
My most recent Dragonborn was Hloda Oreyn, niece of Modryn Oreyn from Oblivion. She was a really fun time.
1
u/LadyRheanon 4h ago
I once had a Breton named Sorcha. She was related to two NPCs. She was the daughter of Madanach, and Brynjolf's younger half sister. I roleplayed her as a young Forsworn who joined the Thieves Guild just to get Brynjolf to agree to jailbreak their father from Cidhna Mine.

u/Br0wnieDraws 3h ago
One of my characters wasn't related to but grew up with Erik the Slayer. His parents died when they were boys and Erik's father took him in and raised him. So eventually the two were able to convince him to let them set out into the world together

u/Xyex PlayStation 3h ago
Yes! My orc warrior Kharza was a cousin of Borgakh Steel Heart. I hadn't planned it out that they'd be related, my background for her was just that her parents originally came from a stronghold in Skyrim and that's why she was entering Skyrim when she was caught. They'd died, and she was going back to where they were from now that she was alone. But then I bumped into Borgakh and saw how strongly she resembled my DB. And thus, the family ties were forged.
1
u/Financial-Ad4573 3h ago
I made Freya Black-briar, run away daughter of Maven Black-briar who decouts her life to pissing off her birth mother by getting involved in all sorts of things. Including killing off the brotherhood, Helping to steal a horse and helping deliver stolen Black-briar mead.
1
u/rokanwood Daedra worshipper 3h ago
never thought of that. i usually have my own ideas for characters that have nothing to do with any npc. i have characters that are related or connected in some way to other characters of mine lol. the closest thing i had was a wood elf who i later thought would be fun to make faendal's distant cousin without faendal knowing
1
u/BladeBird98 3h ago
Yes my LDB is the great-great-great granddaughter of Martin Septim. It's very likely that due to how Martin used to be a Sanguine cultist he got involved in some rituals, like an orgy, due to how Sanguine is the daedric prince of debauchery and pleasures.
I headcanon that surviving links to the Septim bloodline are cursed to have Sanguine make an appearance at least once in their lifetimes to haze them. The link to the Septim bloodline isn't known to her until after Alduin and Miraak.
She doesn't take Septim as a surname but rather Ittius. Tiro Ittius is my Imperial Legion, Imperial Cult, and Bloodmoon character from Morrowind and he is one of her other great-great-great grandfathers.
She isn't bent on becoming the Empress but is rather a modern Dragonpriest.

u/BladeBird98 3h ago
I've thought about my HOK/COC Osheerus and Dar-Ma having children but i haven't gotten that far with that. I just know that he moves to Chorrol after the main quest and takes up duties being the leader of the Fighters Guild chapter in Cyrodiil.
1
u/BladeBird98 2h ago
The only connection that my Nerevarine had with a pre-existing character is Valen Dreth. I headcanon that he was a part of a smuggling operation that she basically got enslaved to since birth.
The leader likely saw her having a "higher worth" to utilize as a Ohmes furstock compared to others that they've entrapped and sold off to certain Great Houses in Morrowind, the Camonna Tong, to Sloads looking for fresh fleshly parts to experiment on, and etc.

Yeah, Gwynneth Silver was a distant Cyrodiil-based relative of the Silverbloods of Markarth. Early game was all in Markarth where she was (narratively) staying with Uncle Thonnar. Eventually got wrapped up in the foresworn conspiracy and, instead of submitting to imprisonment in Cidnha, fled the Reach and sought sanctuary at the Mage's college where she sought to explore her budding magical powers. If you do that you get hunted whenever you go to the Reach, making it almost impossible to survive there. Eventually like 30 levels later I went back to finally face down my family. Pretty dope playthrough.

A couple of times, yeah.
My high elf, Ancano the Traitor, is a bastard son of the character with the same name at the College of Winterhold. Junior is a Nord sympathizer and a gentleman.
I also have Vozahlaak ["Immortal"], an Argonian (modded) who was the Son of Alduin, born a few years after his dad's disappearance who lost some dragon traits and his understanding of Dovahzul over the ages.
There's a Breton, Amanda OvSecunda (also modded), an ex-Forsworn who's actually Madanach's niece, and second-cousins with both Farengar and Faendal.
I'll finish with one last character: my main Nord, Dovahbrii. Her relations? First cousin to Mjoll on one side and the same to From-Deepest-Fathoms on the other.

u/jarl_johann Spellsword 1h ago
I've definitely played a Greymane before, which makes it even funnier when it's your younger sister asking if you can't stand the sight of a strong Nord woman 😅
I made one Dunmer character the grandson of Mehra Milo from Morrowind. Oh, and an Imperial thief who was a descendant of Corvus Umbranox (the Grey Fox in Oblivion).
1
u/Illustrious_Quiet907 1h ago
Not an NPC, but my Dragonborn is the granddaughter of my Hero of Kvatch. Though, Martin may have made her a Dragonborn after he became one with Akatosh, maybe as gift to an old friend.

u/calartnick 1h ago
I’ve played Torygg’s older brother who has been gone from Skyrim so long he’s not recognized. He comes back for revenge
1
u/Boliforce Morthal resident 1h ago

This is the twin brother of Tullius. He just wanted to claim his assigned plot of land (goldenhill plantation) after a long military service (alternate start as penitus oculatus). But the farm was hounted; then his brother, the general, needed „a last favor“ dealing with the rebells and now there is talk of dragons…

My current playthrough is around a Telvanni that's a VERY distant relative of Sotha Sil, more exactly, a descendant of his (lore implied but very much canon) sister, Sotha Nall.

u/TarraTheTerror 45m ago
I made a twin for Serana and we've been running around being hot vamps together. Fun times.

My current playthrough is a Breton who is actually Arch-Curate Vyrthur’s kid. (Racial phylogeny reads weird to me, like GOT level, esp with Bretons and Reachman history, so I am ignoring SOME of its conclusions.) Her mother and stepfather are nobles and, by virtue of being half-vampire, she’s got a few weird quirks. Sharp teeth, unusual strength…and random bouts of fatigue when the adrenaline wears off. She’s tiny and due to being an affair kid, got disowned. She starts off sabotaged and unskilled, terrible at magic, and I am aiming her build to be an OP battlemage. She just struggles to master spells and not set other people on fire.
Edit: Was she made to fulfill the Dawnguard prophecy? Maybe. Vyrthur really sucks.

not really, in my mind, all the TES games is supposed to star a character that's either of little-to-no-consequence within the playable area, or just someone not from there at all.
Like if I'm playing Oblivion, my character (atleast whoever I'm playing the MQ as), is someone who either isn't natively from Cyrodiil, or if they are from Cyrodiil, they're such an inconsequential person that noone really remembers them or they're unrecognizable.
same for Skyrim basically

Kinda jealous of y’all who can truly commit to a roleplay, everytime i try it i have the best 4-5hour of gameplay. Then i take a break, comeback and feels like starting over.🥲
