Meds & Supplements Pre-vet visit medications

1.5 yr old male Australian Shepherd, around 17kg.
Had bad experience with a vet early in life (before I got him) and has always been very reactive at the vet (growling, lunging, barking).

We were told to take 350mg Gabapentin and 100mg trazodone night before the vet visit and also on the morning of the visit.

However the meds seemed to make him even more active and alert (he was pacing the house from 9PM-11PM, unable to fall asleep.

Same reaction in the morning. I always thought this would make him sleepy/dopey, but no he seems to be even more alert.

Any one else had the same issue?

YEP. Just the other day. For our morning dose the vet said to skip traz and double our gaba dose. It also didn’t help šŸ˜µā€šŸ’«

That sounds frustrating, especially when you were expecting him to be calmer. I'd let the vet know how he reacted before giving those meds again.
