Significant challenges Rehome/Surrender Dog or face eviction

Here is my post from yesterday that explains what happened. https://www.reddit.com/r/reactivedogs/s/d4NK6DCIGm

My apartment complex reached out to me about an hour ago, told me that the other dog did have to go the vet, and I have to remove my dog from the property within 10 days or I will be in violation of my lease.

I have literally been sobbing ever since the call. It’s all my fault.

If anyone has ever experienced, please, any advice is welcome.

I don’t want to sound like I’m jumping the gun, but is BE a possibility? Management always fails, this dog attacked two dogs with prey tendencies. Dogs with some form of fear reactivity at least bark & lunge from a distance before moving closer to get the dog to go away. The way this dog went out it sounded like it was ready for the kill. Personally I don’t see where this dog would be a safe pet. Little dogs won’t stop existing outside the home and this dog will need to be in the outside world eventually. The shelters and rescues are overidden with dogs who need to be only dogs who people aren’t wanting to adopt. I’m so sorry you’re dealing with this. Being homeless over an aggressive dog is absolutely not worth it and having this dog get lost in the system isn’t a good outcome and could make the dog miserable. There are some fates worse than death and being warehoused in a no kill boarding facility is one of them.

So sorry to hear that. This must be incredibly tough. Personally, I would never give up on my dog. If I could go back to my family for a bit or stay with friends who could help me, I would explore those options. Even if you could find a friend or family member to foster your dog temporarily, I would consider that while you figure out your living situation.

I’m not sure if you’ve already signed up for training, but I would seek it out ASAP. Unfortunately, I waited too long to get help with my reactive dog, and he ended up biting someone. That was completely my fault because I lost control of him. But I can tell you that we’ve had five sessions so far, and I’ve been consistently training him and giving him corrections. He’s doing A LOT better! We can now pass by dogs and people with corrections, and sometimes without him reacting at all.

Obviously, this will take time and consistency, but I truly believe there are no bad dogs, just owners who need to learn how to handle their dogs.

If you genuinely don’t think you can commit to the training and consistency required, then I would consider rehoming him as a last resort.
