Show-and-Tell Pi Powered Mix & Learn DJ Table

I bought this Fisher Price toy for my niece because of viral videos, but it turns out it was no where close to as annoying as they made it seem. Just a general kids toy with the usual cutesy ABC songs.
So I used a raspberry pi w2 for the brains, MAX98357A for the speaker, AS5600 for the spinning platter (it was just a platter that spun to push a button before), and a INMP441 for a microphone. Then printed a PCB board the same size as the original to mount it all inside. You can now upload your own song clips via a webpage, create a layered music track or use it as a bluetooth speaker.
There are a few 3D printed parts to help mount the platter and upgrade the speaker. All of the code, STL files, non-copyright music and tones (I'm sure you can find better real ones) are on the github here:

Also a guide of sorts with better photos here: https://nastypieceof.work/raveandrepeat
Anyway, I'm sure my sister will be extremely to have this in her house

Amazing work! I’d be lying if I said I didn’t think about doing the same to many toys like this. Lucky niece!

That's awesome. Good call going with the W2, an SD card setup WILL get vibrated loose by a toddler in a week. I've had that exact failure mode, just with flight controllers instead of a kid.

Would have loved to use a esp32-s3 but I just couldn't get it working. That instant boot would have been nice. And she will break it. She'd find a way if it was encased in concrete!

Imagine an interview with Wuki "Yeah, my uncle really set me up with that thing. I got to fuck with techno every day."

The upload page for clips is the difference between a fun build and something a whole family can actually use. Really nice balance here: enough polish to make it welcoming, but still clearly remixable. Also impressively restrained hardware for something that looks ready to survive toddler-level field testing.

Oh this is great - thanks for sharing! Our kid got this as a gift a few years ago and kind of plays with it but (she knows) it's about useless. Mostly wants to mess with sampling her voice (the original is next to useless with its "sampling" feature) so this would be a great change. On my list!

Add a recording feature, man. Record everything and make the files accessible on the same service you're using to upload songs.
