1 year kratom-free today
I never make posts on reddit, so hello lol
Today officially marks 365 days without kratom, and I figured I'd share my experience here in case it helps somebody who's trying to quit.
I used kratom daily for over 10 years. At my highest, I was taking around 40 grams per day, spread throughout the day, eventually I got tired of being dependent on something just to feel normal.
I'd wanted to quit, but the thought of withdrawal was intimidating. I knew stopping abruptly from that amount probably wasn't going to be a pleasant experience, so I decided to taper instead.
I started using Chat GPT to help organize a taper schedule, and I tracked everything in an Excel spreadsheet. Every dose, every reduction, daily totals, and how I was feeling along the way.
August 10, 2025, I established a daily dose of 12 grams per day, using capsules (I put kratom powder in my coffee all day before that, 40g is an estimate) and from there I followed a much more structured taper, gradually reducing my intake rather than trying to rush through it.
It wasn't always easy. There were days when my energy was terrible, my muscles were cramping, and I generally felt like crap. Some reductions were more noticeable than others.
One thing that surprised me was how manageable the mental side of quitting was for me at the end. I expected cravings and a much bigger psychological struggle, but those never really materialized. The physical symptoms were definitely there, though.
On October 13, 2025, at 8:33 AM, I took my final 0.5g dose, I flushed the remaining capsules, and that was it.
Looking back, having a structured plan and being able to see my progress in Excel helped tremendously. Chat GPT was useful for organizing the taper, doing the calculations, keeping track of milestones, and giving me somewhere to bitch through the rough days.
Obviously, AI didn't do the quitting for me. 😂 But having those tools made the whole process feel much less overwhelming.
I'm not suggesting my exact taper would work for everyone. Everybody responds differently, and there's no universal timeline for withdrawal or recovery.
I just wanted to share that it is possible to get off this stuff, even after years of daily use.
A year ago, I was counting capsules and planning my next reduction.
Today, I don't have to think about any of that anymore.
365 days down, and absolutely no plans to go back.
