Bully quail advice needed

Looking for advice, any tips or recommendations.
I originally had 9 button quail — 5 females and 4 males. The males eventually started over-mating the females, especially one female who became bald, so I permanently separated the males into another coop.
The 5 females did well together for a while, but about a month ago I noticed 4 of them losing feathers on their heads and backs. I realized the female who had originally been over-mated was now the one aggressively pecking everyone else.
I separated her for 2–3 weeks while the others recovered and started growing pin feathers back. I tried reintroducing her, but she immediately started pecking again and made one bleed, so I separated her again.
I’d really appreciate any tips or suggestions from anyone who has dealt with this. My biggest concern is that I feel bad keeping her alone. She calls to the other quail and they call back to her, and I know they’re social birds.
Has anyone successfully reintegrated a female like this, or found another way for an aggressive quail to still have companionship safely?

Hello. We were given these two coturnix quail to help with our lonely chick. We ended up liking them so much that we want to run some of these as well. By looking at them I was thinking males, but maybe these pics can help. I appreciate any help.

Feather sexing

Thumbnail gallery
11 Upvotes

Hi, first time raising quails, can I get some help feather sexing these five four week old chicks?

I thought 1, 2, 3 would be hens and 4, 5 roosters from the feathers but I’ve noticed that 2,3,4,5 all have the white foamy substance on their droppings, does that mean all but 1 are roosters?

Also, is there a difference in quality/fertility of caged quail eggs compared to aviary quail eggs. I would love to buy some in person but the only person I know keeps them in stacked cages.

Help Possibly sick hen

Hi guys, so my hen was absolutely fine a couple days ago with the others and today i have found her like this.

I have reloacted her into a hospital coop with a heat bulb to keep her warm. She was found puffed up, walking around slowly and sitting upright with her eyes closed.

Is this possible egg bound or something else? From what she let me check i cant feel any lumps or bumps in her body, no clumps around her vent, no mucus or sneezing?

We have now just come into the colder part of the year here in the UK but its reslly not that cold.

Any thoughts?

Coturnix/Japanese Lockdown question

I just put my eggs in lockdown this morning but now my incubator is having a hard time getting back up to temp. It’s fluctuating between 98.9 and 99.2 and humidity I can only get up to 66% which I know is OK. Are there any suggestions or helpful tips?

Edit to add: I have two towels wrapped around it with the vent wide open. Should I shut the vent halfway?

When to give jumbo quail chicks scratch?

I give my flock Dumor chicken scratch (corn, wheat, milo, barley, sunflower seed) and currently have 20 day old chicks in our brooder outside in the aviary. I have a sandbath in the brooder for them and they love it and peck at it. Can I introduce scratch yet?

Button Button quail nature foraging stuff?

Hi!! I’m in Tennessee and I have some woods right in my backyard! I have 3 button quails inside and wanted to give them some natural stuff to pick around at and explore! Does anyone know what type of leaves/trees/sticks are safe for them? I would bake them to disinfect of course! Also, what kind of fresh fruits and veggies would yall recommend I offer them? Thanksss :)

Newly Hatched Quail Splint?

Post image
3 Upvotes

I had a Coturnix hatch last night and when I went and took a peek at it (through the incubator window) it had one foot laid flat and the other was still curled up and had gunk around the ankle that I think cut off circulation. It was walking around on the curled foot so I don’t think it was as going to correct itself. I broke lockdown (Day 18) and took it out, carefully cut off the gunk, gave it a splint based on photos/videos from the internet, and put it back into the incubator in a little organizing container (that has holes on the sides and is open on top) to keep it from hurting itself.

What would you have done?
Do you think it stands a chance?

Broody quail

I have a button quail sitting on eggs, they got rained on right at the begining when her siting was spotty, and it seems they didn't survive. It's been three weeks since she stopped laying so they are definitely dead. If I take them from her will she lay more to sit on? I honestly hoped they had survived.(Couldn't easily or safely reach the nest to try and check them as I would have to crawl under unanchored branches that act as perches for finches. Risk falling and they are heavy) She's really determined and the other girl and the male sometimes sit on top of her and the eggs. Witch is funny because they bearly fit in the little weaved nest.

First time incubating - Day 15

I'm on day 15 and and was getting ready to lock down. Pulled them all out, took out the egg turner and put the shelf liner on the bottom. As I was loading them back in I noticed two are already starting to break through! I guess I'm going to be up all night LOL I'll let them do their thing but I will peek in the window 😁

Since they are already trying to hatch and I have removed some humidity and warmth should I spray them down with warm water in a mister or something? Right now my humidity is at 64 and my temp is 99.5

Help me interperate my municiple code: can I have quail?

Post image
11 Upvotes

I had the city called on me about my chickens. I unfortunatly do not have the space they want me to have soni have to get rid of them. Before I approach the code officer to ask about quail, id like to know a general consensus of what the code states.

(I could just do it with the "ask forgiveness not permission" philosophy but thats kinda how I got into this mess. And my neighbor, the one who called, is nosy as fuck.)

so yesterday my friend found his cat with this quail injured. hes rescued them and we're doing our best to nurture it and reach out for help at local wildlife sanctuaries but little help is being given and the WCC turned us down due to distance. hes located in south western oregon and we could use some help identifying the type of quail to see wether we could get help from exotic sanctuaries too. or any advice would help too. desperately need to save this little one

Help Baby king/button quail help :)

Hello!

In around 3 days i am about to hatch some baby king quail eggs for the fist time!

If i may, i would like to ask some questions that google was very unhelpful with.

1- what should i put as a floor for them? Some say paper, some say wood shaving, what is the best? If needed i can do both!

2- i saw that baby quails need food with lots of protin, i didnt find anything good in the pet/farm stores, and i cant order it online cus it wont get here in time, i have both chicken feed and pigeon feed, can i just boil an egg and give them? I can also de-hydrate the egg itself.

3- should the box their in have lots of ventilations?

I got them a plastic box, i cut only the top part of the box and coverd it with mosquito net, so the heatlamp would pass trough but my cat wont hehe, should i cut more or only the top is ok?

I am very sorry for the spam, and sorry for any mistake i made, english isn't my first spoken.

Thank you for all the help!!
