Danny Trejo works constantly (the guy has 22 upcoming projects on IMDB), on a whole bunch of productions that 20 years ago would have been straight to video.  There are so many random producers and production companies out there, and it does sound like the Daily Wire part of it was deliberately obfuscated.  This really sucks, the kind of lawsuit in this scenario can be crazy.

Does kinda sound like the agent was full of shit though.

Just came from another thread on this. Some comments there were saying this is how the Daily Wire works - they hide/don’t share until you’re negotiating. Could have multiple names under DW to use. It was interesting because Shapiro doesn’t get successful celebs or actors in his stuff. I believe they were tricked.

I believe it too. The trick people and use them playbook is SOP for a lot of these right wing groups. Anything to manipulate their audience and own the libs.

I didn't realize Danny Trejo is 82. Honestly, I might get booed, but I kinda believe this. I'm not totally convinced his agent didn't know though. Anyway, I know Danny is locked in the film and that sucks a lot, but I think the right thing to do is donate the salary.

I do kinda believe it especially because everyone that does business with benny boy always gets burned. I’d be firing my agent after this nonsense. Shapiro sucks

I'm probably projecting too much, but after caring for a parent, I've come to realize how easy it is for them unintentionally get involved in some mess.

His agent has to go though. I'm super curious as to what his agent heard about the studio and how that fell through the cracks, because I struggle to believe they got deceived too.

I agree with you so much. My 74 year old mother would have absolutely no clue about any of this. It’s frustrating but how do you fault a person as their faculties start failing or they drop their guard not thinking about people always wanting to take advantage of you.

My 84 year old dad has started having daily six hour arguments with Claude and only gets out of his bathrobe probably 3 days a week. I have zero issue believing this.

I believe it too.

For easier readability,

For anyone seeing this shit with my dad...

He was booked on a film, it's not pro-ice, it's not overtly pro anything. His agent described it as "a complicated story about a complicated time, where everyone looks bad except you, the hardworking Mexican shop owner who just wants peace"

He jumped at the idea of playing a good guy.

About 2 weeks into shooting everyone, including us, found out Ben Shapiro was involved.

My 82 year old dad has never heard of Ben Shapiro, I had to explain to him who that is, and what kind of guy he is.

My dad contractually can't bad mouth him, the film, or walk away without being sued for breach of contract. He couldn't even release the statement he wanted to.

It's fucked up. He's handcuffed to this stupid project, and swaths of people have instantly turned their back on him without knowing any of the facts.

Ben Shapiro got Mexicans to abandon one of their heroes, got his own name to the top of google's searches, and made us look like angry fools lacking any nuance. He wins.

I mean, I believe it. From everything I've heard about Danny Trejo I will take this explanation and continue to enjoy his other projects.

If true that legit sucks for Danny Trejo and his family.

•

u/ELDwbi 2h ago

Well I blame Danny’s agent(s) if that’s the case.

Danny is 82, hes OLDER than the boomers, and has the classic old person tendancy of not being online enough to know wtf is going on or who these cretins pulling the strings are. His agents honestly failed him here, its not his fault.

Tricking an old man who is so proud to be Mexican into working on a film made by racists who want all Latinos deported is either deliberately evil, or beyond incompetant, and I hope his son helps him fire these fucking traitors

82 is boomer generation.

•

u/emptyhellebore 1h ago

Oh wow. That makes sense. It didn’t sound like a project Danny would endorse.

•

u/Wondur13 2h ago

Maybe its because i want to believe it but i honestly do believe it, hes 82, ben shapiro is mostly popular on social media more than mainstream news sites

•

I know so many educated people who have no idea who the fuck Ben Shapiro is.

Lucky ducks.

•

u/Yeunkwong 2h ago

He should fire his agent.

•

100% gotta fire that agent. Either he’s incompetent or he doesnt have Danny”s best interests at heart.

•

u/nj_crc 2h ago

Maybe his dad needs better agents.

I was pretty harsh on the first post and I deeply regret that now. I assumed it was money trouble and didn't give enough thought to his age, or the contract clauses that of course a Ben Shapiro film would have. That seems embarrassingly obvious in hindsight.

How did Danny Trejo voice a character for The Daily Wire's 2024 animated show Mr. Birchum and yet is somehow still totally ignorant about Ben Shapiro? If working for them was so antithetical to his fundamental beliefs, surely someone in his life would have said something the first time he did a gig for them? I would take this statement more seriously if this was Danny Trejo's first time taking white nationalist money, but not so much the second.

Also looking askance his sons insistence the movie wasn’t pro ICE… despite being from Ben Shapiro …
