I immediately looked up his age. He's only thirteen. Eton College is a boarding school for secondary students aged 13 to 18, not a university. So, hopefully you gained a few years back if you thought it was uni type of college.
His practical last name is currently Wales but his formal dynastic surname is Mountbatten-Windsor. He uses Wales informally, including at school. He used Cambridge as his last name when Kate and William were Duke and Duchess of Cambridge. So his ppractical surname that he uses informally changes but his legal surname is Mountbatten-Windsor
Before marriage, both Will and Harry were Wales because they were still under their father’s title of Prince of Wales. Upon their marriages, they were bestowed their respective dukedoms and their names changed to that, as the previous commenter stated. Will changed back to Wales when he inherited the Prince of Wales title upon his father’s succession.
You’ll notice it in British period dramas set among the aristocracy too. If a peer has multiple titles, they’ll default to the highest ranking one.
I felt kind of like that the first time I saw him wearing pants, because of the tradition being that they wear shorts for so long and then suddenly he was with his mother in pants and it was no longer little kid Prince George, but this adolescent who is getting close to his mother in height.
lol I was about to ask/look that up myself. (Isn’t it called university there when they go to school after high school/18? It’s been a while since I watched skins)
If it makes you feel any better, he's only 13. If you're like me and nowhere close to the tax bracket required to just "know" about Eton and needed to google, Eton is 13 - 18 year olds and is ~22,000£ a half term and there are three half terms per academic year, plus another ~4500£ for registration and acceptance fees... also if they wanna do 60 minutes of music lessons a week, it's an additional 1,000£ per half semester....
You don’t need to be in a high tax bracket to know about Eton lol, im nowhere near wealthy enough to even think about it, but know about it cause it’s where all the rich wankers go to network with each other so they can give each other cushy jobs that can make them even richer

This is so crazy to me because I remember us waiting to find out if the boy was going to be a boy or a girl at summer camp because it was right after the queen had decreed (or whatever) that the baby would be a successor to the throne whether or not it was a boy and we were waiting to see if she would have to make good on that ruling (or whatever). And now that baby is in middle school!!!

I love it when growth spurs makes a kid super duper tall while their face still screams child. I notice it in my nieces and nephews too, it’s so cute 😭 like yes, grow tall like a plant!
To me he looks like Kate in the top half of his face and his father in the bottom half. George is the child with the most mix of the two. Charlotte looks just like William and Louis looks just like the Middleton side,
I went to a British private school founded in the 1600s and it really felt like that.
We had huge oil portraits of old headmasters on the wall spanning back hundreds of years, photos of the whole school together taken every 4 years and displayed going back years, all the old original wood bookcases lining all the corridors with dusty old books, sweeping staircases, ornate ceilings and wood beams, antique wooden desks with literally vintage graffiti carvings, tiny secret little rooms you’d continue to discover years later. And we did a lot of the old traditions like the teachers all wearing gowns to assemblies, standing up each time a teacher entered, being part of a school house for your whole school life etc.
I absolutely loved it all. I should add I got in on a scholarship so very much cherished the experience and it was life changing.
We didn’t go to a place on the level of Eton so it wasn’t really like that lol, there’s many private schools in the UK. It was just rich kids but there was a healthy amount of us scholarship kids so was no danger of being the odd one out.
It was an eye opener for me to see some of the differences I noticed though, £200 shoes on 11 year olds, expensive watches, luxurious holidays abroad all the time and meals out regularly - these things were shocking for a working class British Indian northern kid in 1997.
But honestly it didn’t affect us much in reality, kids are just kids and we had the usual high school issues and dynamics happening but nothing based around us not being rich. I think a lot (possibly all, no one talked about it) of them actually had no idea we got in on scholarships - perks of a school uniform I guess.
The scholarship kids overall did far better in school and beyond than the rich kids. We were obviously grabbing the opportunity like a golden ticket after working so hard to get in (it was a massive deal to get in, people in the community would talk about you and there were many jealous parents) whilst for them it was just the norm. I suspect some of them didn’t even pass the entrance exam and got in on the money alone with how poor they were academically.
We just spent a couple years in a 450 year old house and it was honestly so chill. I was up all hours with a baby and thought I’d get creeped out at some point but it was really peaceful and lovely… and this is in a village in NL that saw some crazy Spanish massacre back in the day so I really thought there’d be some residual bad juju
Nope! I remember one day I lay in bed and looked at the church next door and wondered if any of the previous residents had died right where I was laying lol. It was such a nice summer day too. Maybe I'm morbid haha
They're referring to the hazing that goes on at these types of schools. All the idioscratic traditions that must be upheld for no other reason than that's how it's done. Places like that have a way of not realizing or acknowledging when these bizarre rituals are in fact deeply problematic. Thus a lot of alum of these places have ghosts they're hiding from others, that haunt their future lest they get discovered. Much like David Cameron fucking a pig.
Look it's not verified whatsoever but the point is that societies, schools and colleges designed for the elite and exclusively populated by that social set are known for exactly that sort of antics and thus the sitting PM of the UK can be said to have done that - with no actual proof - and it is 1 reported on and 2 easily believed by the rest of the population. Only the people actually in that group are skeptical - because they know it was actually a goose (hohoho). More info
I worked at Fairmont hotels in the Western region of Canada during the honeymoon tour.
I did not get to meet them, and they didn’t come to the property I worked at (Jasper, which was the Queens favourite). I will never forget the extra background checks we went through. We weren’t told the official schedule, or if they’d even be coming to our hotel. I believe we were the backup in case anything happened in Calgary.
That feels like a lifetime ago. Seeing Prince George so tall, and mature at just 13 makes me feel really old, and like it truly was a lifetime ago that his parents got married and had several countries cheering them on.
Remind me, Eton is a high school right? “College” is in the name, but it’s not a “college” in the US sense of the word? I vaguely remember The Crown. I know I’m old, but I’m not ready to be that old.
I haven’t seen what look like real genuine smiles from these two in a while so this is nice. Not their biggest fans but it’s good to seem them happy. It’s been a rough couple of years for sure.
I agree. I feel like with Catherine’s cancer being in remission and Charles responded to chemotherapy for his cancer now, William, Catherine, and the rest of their family can finally relax a little now.
William was in Eton in the Hello picture, but was older than George (18 as opposed to 13). He’s wearing the colorful vest that he was able to wear as being part of the “Pop” society (actor Eddie Redmayne was also in Pop at the same time as William).
