OutdoorX4 Rotopax suck and I’m tired of pretending they don’t

Fuck rotopax, seriously. Fucking Just-For-Showverlander, Broverlander, poorly designed and worsely executed goddamn pieces of garbage.

Need extra gas? I almost guarantee you don’t, but if you do, well fuck you, the goddamn pour spout won’t open no matter what you do, so you’ll just pour gas all over your hands and truck.

Water? Hope you brought extra because their shitty fucking quality control is non-existent and they’ll leak all over the goddamn place.

I’ve tried for years to justify carrying these fucking things around and I’m done. Bought a Scepter tank and just stuck it in the back and guess what? It didn’t leak and didn’t get the spout covered in fucking mud and dust and somehow I still was able to oVeRLaNd AND post pictures of it on Instagram for all the bonus points

FUCK ROTOPAX TO HELL GOD DAMN

OutdoorX4 Debating what to purchase.

So I'm currently doing homework on what vehicle I want to purchase as an overland rig. I'm torn between an 80 series Land Cruiser OR Lexus LX470. One is solid axle the other is IFS suspension.

There are many of you in here please help me with a decision.

I've had this Mockins brand for about 9 months and a speed bump sheared the hitch bar completely. Would love to get some recommendations on a different hitch carrier...

Im still debating if I need a shower room, but I definetly need the spare tire carrier to install a roam box, because im out of room inside, and the air compressor, hoses, recovery gear and some other small items take up too much realstate. I have to travel with 2 pre-teens and a frenchie. Anybody have ideas on how to save some room?

Inside gear: Air compressor 4 tires hose system Straps, shoft shackles, kinetic rope, etc Table Cot 4" self inflate matress Propane heater (no room for the ecoflow one) Apl55 Delta max2 Kitchen supplies Awning walls 3 chairs Collapsible sink 1 burner stove Starlink mini 3 sleeping bags and pillows Tarp Led lamp Tool bag Air pump Clothing

OutdoorX4 Van vs. Truck for the Pan American Highway

I 'm at the very beginning of planning a trip down the Pan American Highway. Currently I overland in a 2022 F150 4x4 with a crew cab, 6-1/2' bed, with a shell on it. I have 10 ply tires, and she does well on Bush and logging roads. I have the truck bed built out with a bed, and storage etc. I've lived in my rig for as long as 6 months reasonably comfortably. But, I can't stand up in the back, and this would be a much longer trip. I'm toying with the idea of getting a transit van with AWD that I would build out.

ATM my biggest cons for a van are 1. Possibility of more debt, I don't want, 2. I already own a 14' trailer that I could build out if I so desired, making the van redundant 3. I use my truck as a truck a lot, and the 4x4 is super helpful, especially in the winter. I generally don't worry about getting stuck. And 4. Is a truck less obvious that I'm a traveler? In the pro column for the van, 1. I'd definitely be more comfortable in a van 2. I could still use a van in a similar way that i use my truck, even tow my trailer 3. Having the van could free up use of the trailer for food vending. I've already dabbled in this a little. The plan would not be to take the trailer in that capacity for this trip. 4. If I act soonish, I'd likely get a great trade in value. Thoughts?

OutdoorX4 Brother just sent me this pic of his truck… I guess he says he bent both tire rod ends? And he’s miles away from the nearest paved road

OutdoorX4 Yet another Subaru.

Your friendly local Subaru abuser is back. Flew from central Arkansas to Baltimore and drove this car back 1200 miles. About 200 miles into the trip one of the half shafts blew so I pulled into an orileys and replaced it… rest of the trip went by without a hitch until the day after I got back (yesterday) and the CV I replaced decided to grenade…

Anywho this is another rig I plan to overland in just as soon as I remedy the issues that will present as I drive her around. This car has parts from 5 different models between 2005-2012.. the mutant will be a beast once I get it sorted

This year I finally got to add a 3.5in lift and a Rough Country FXS bumper with a 12k wench. I'll be upgrading the wheels soon and to 35in tires. I'm in southern California so if anyone got any cool trail suggestions let me know.

OutdoorX4 Seeking Real Life Experience with Jackery Power Stations and Similar

I'd like to upgrade my Jeep rig to be capable of powering a BougeRV cooler throughout the day, and a BougeRV PC35 Pro air conditioner overnight. I've been watching Jackery and Bluetti Power Stations for a few years now. I'm leaning towards the Jackery Explorer 2000 Plus Portable Power Station and am hoping to hear your experience in the field with actual portal power stations - including Jackery and other brands. What would you avoid? What would you change? What would you do again?

Whatever product, I'd like it to be expandable, so I can fund it to meet my needs over time. I can see myself using the Jackery with an expansion pack and 2x 200W solar units; but I don't want to make this kind of investment if you all wouldn't do it again. Being in Florida, this unit could double as a temporary limited power solution when the hurricanes inevitably sweep through.

OutdoorX4 Recommendations for a smaller 4x4 drive?

I recently got really into the idea of a cruiser/jeep something along those lines with the purpose of driving it comfortably on the highway as well as reach those nature spots that i want to camp out to. I dont want it to be huge, therefore I really like the jeep 2 door wrangler, ford bronco, suzuki jimny.
However, i have NO idea what is reliable, what doesnt shake violently in fifth gear, which one is the cheapest to buy and to maintain, etc. im good with automatic as well as manual. I am aware some people also take the body of a completely unrelated car like a sedan and make it offroad but im too much of a beginner to know how to do any of that. Could i get some advice and some recommendations? All information is appreciated, i just want to learn a bit

OutdoorX4 What are your overlanding essentials?

I’m taking my 4runner to north cascades national park this weekend to car camp in the wilderness for the first time - I’ve only done this at travel centers before just to break myself in and fall back on the amenities in case I needed anything.

Is there anything you take with you that comes in really handy, makes for a more comfy night, etc? Would love to know! TIA

OutdoorX4 I’m a travel RN and here’s my DIY rig. 2016 Ford F-150 XLT 8’ Bed Build. Completely hand made, almost 100% wood. Bottom drawer is 4’, top drawer is 2’. Insulated walls with screen doors makes for a nice camper! Link to more photos on the build process in the comments 👍🏽

OutdoorX4 OnX Off-road Advice?

Just bought a month of OnX Off-road because it was discounted for like $5. Planning a Labor Day trip with the girlfriend, and we’re trying to figure out the trails. I’ve got an 02’ Tacoma TRD Off-road, completely stock. Saw online clearance is 10”, but I measured 9”. I see some of the blue trails that are 4-6 rating, will I be able to get through those fine? Any tips before we decide on a trail??
