I've been tasked with weekend camp appetizers - what's your favorite?

Headed up on a weekend excursion with a group of 10-12 people and wondering what are your "camp friendly" appetizers? Fire ban has been lifted, so open campfire is available plus camp stove and Weber Q. I'm already planning on bacon-wrapped jalapeno poppers and maybe some spinach artichoke dip. Any ideas?

Summer sausage, cheddar cheese (real), saltines, adult beverage of your choice.

Or charcuterie in general. Prosciutto is always a hit, there’s many crackers and chips available, I always do a soft and a hard cheese, and you can include things like dried fruit and fresh apples or grapes which are good for free-range grazing throughout your trip.

To this I would add Lesley Stowe “Raincoast Crisps” crackers + chèvre and fig jam. Can add slices of cured meat . Pairs well with boar sausage. I also discovered recently how easy it is to make fresh pizza on a cast iron skillet using fresh dough, jarred pizza sauce, fresh mozzarella and whatever else you want to add though my fave so far is arugula and prosciutto. Super fast to make

That's a great idea...sausages over the fire is always a good choice.

? Summer sausage and prosciutto are cured meats eaten cold or at room temperature.

For a hot, flame-cooked sausage that would really be more of a main dish or dinner. You could probably do some kind of sausage bite or little weenie thing but you don’t want to compete with the main - what if it’s elaborate hot dogs lol.

If you want something with fun around the fire, grab a box of those naan bites, or equivalent pita. Anything that you can cut open into a pocket. Grab a pack of pepperoni, and a pack of mozzarella pearls or other small size pieces.

Cut open bread, insert pepperoni and cheese, skewer, and place over fire for a few minutes. Grab a jar of pizza sauce to pour/dip and a cold can of beer.

Brought it with me over this past weekend for a few days on the trails and it was a big hit!

Yep, slice it like pizza slices and add sour cream and guacamole to dip it in.

Bacon wrapped stuffed jalapeños. Wrap them in foil and toss them next to the fire.

My absolute favorite camping food is get a sweet potato wrap it up in foil and throw it in the bottom of the camp fire. 30-45 min later pull it out and eat it like a savage while burning both my fingers and my mouth.

I came to recommend bacon wrapped jalapenos haha. I see you have that covered, one of my favorite things to make while camping. Mountain pies would be first on my list

Popcorn over the fire is nice…I know it seems simple but having something to do with your hands and snacking over longer than a few minutes is great. So like chips and salsa or whatever, but popcorn is a nice one that seems so easy it’s often overlooked these days.

Garlic bread is simple and is always a hit.

Since OP has a stove too, throw some low-moisture part-skim mozz on top of the bread and toss that bitch in the oven for a sec to brown up on top & serve with marinara.

Jalapeño poppers are peak. Just make more of those. Some good salsa and chips until they are ready.

Maybe some whiskey with pickle backs and full dressed tequila shots as drink options.

Good point on the chips and salsa, I think that'll be a good addition. Plus, I made the mistake of ordering groceries online and instead of 4 tomatoes I bought 4 POUNDS.

Sounds like you need to add 2 pounds of onion and a few cilantro bundles and make pico.

4 pounds is only like 8-12 tomatoes tho right?

The only thing better than chips and salsa is chips with salsa, guacamole, and queso.

Or do queso with the poppers.

Buy large calzones and cut them into strips, great snack food.

As a overlander who enjoys a group brew ha ha. If beer and other libations are the chaser, then consider an easy but great tasty of batch of tortillas with cheddar shredded cheese , bacon bits and a store bought guacamole spread (options). The bacon bits always come in resealable bags along with the shredded cheddar. Those two bags can go back the cooler for morning scrambled eggs add ons. Bring some Chalula sprinkle mild hot sauce or a hot sauce of your choice to sprinkle on. Fold over and get a slight char on both sides from the flat top or cast iron pan, cut into wedges and serve. The beer will magically become a combined part, napkins will be replaced with shirt sleeves and comments of the “ all hail the campfire snacks” . I have done this several times, as it is easy and never had a complaint other than; where’s the rest?

Shots will definitely be involved!

Pinwheel sandwiches. Can be pre-made or at camp. You don't need heat, and can rattle off enough for the group vert quickly. Or, provide the ingredients and do a "make your own" assembly line

Savory s'mores. Aka babybel cheese wrapped in salami and put between crackers after heating on the stick.

Pack in a box of those frozen loaded potato skins if you want a no prep snack. If you dont mind prepping, make them from scratch.

Campfire nachos are great for groups. You can just throw eveything in a foil pan on the Weber Q. It is easy and everyone loves them. Do not forget the jalapenos.

Caviar and Champagne!

Did this once, but it was christmas morning and a special occasion. Cold beer and tinned fish could be great too and nowhere near as bougie or expensive.

Whatever requires the least amount of dish work afterwards.

Grilled oysters with a dollop of a compound butter made with garlic, lemon zest and herbs.

Just shuck the oysters, put them over a hot grill for 3-5 minutes depending on how quickly they cook, drop some butter on each oyster so it melts and then serve. I pre-make the compound butter so the only work is shucking and grilling.

Banana Boats-

Slit the peel lengthwise, then make several slices in the banana and insert chocolate Hershey squares and marshmallows.

Wrap loosely with foil and put around the fire.
