Trip Report How it started / how it ended

Well……

We got caught in some rain in the Oregon high desert ( Pillars of Rome) and got a firsthand introduction to the moon dust mud. It’s no joke.

Best part is we 2 days into 4-5 day trip and…closest carwash was in Ontario Oregon(2 hr backtrack). Didn’t want this mud to dry so we went for it, spent an hour pressure washing then found a motel.

Hardcore I know.

And Dear Worst Mud Ever,

I hate you.

I was just out there near Rome/Jordan Valley today. That rain storm that came through was absolutely brutal and lasted quite a long while.

You should check out the trails west of the Snake on the Idaho side. There are quite a few near Walter’s Ferry off of the Lost Trail Trailhead.

Why was the mud a deal breaker?

It’s very slick, very sticky. My fender liner in back got partially ripped out, probably 200 lbs of mud off each truck.

It dries very hard and sticky, so wanted it off asap. On top of that it chews up the path more, really didn’t want to push on and rip more shit up.

The "Owyhee mud" is no joke. The dirt out there is a mix of silt and clay. You can watch several you tube videos of overlanders getting caught in the same situation OP did. I live in the Boise area and frequent the Owyhees a lot. We were planning on heading there this weekend as well, but after checking the radar, decided it best to not go. That shit gets everywhere and you'll be cleaning it off for days.

Yeah, that mud is no joke. It can quickly go from a ‘yeah, no problem’ to a ‘oh F’k!’ situation real quick. Good choice.

Ha! I know your pain. I still have red Wyoming mud in cracks, crevices, etc on my Tremor

I’d WD-40 or SC-1 my whole truck after dealing with that lol
