Whats even funnier is that if you go to si.gov:
Error 1000
Ray ID: [censored]
DNS points to prohibited IP
What happened?
You've requested a page on a website (si.gov) that is on the Cloudflare network. Unfortunately, it is resolving to an IP address that is creating a conflict within Cloudflare's system.
Please see https://developers.cloudflare.com/support/troubleshooting/http-status-codes/cloudflare-1xxx-errors/error-1000/ for more details.
What can I do?
If you are the owner of this website: you should login to Cloudflare and change the DNS A records for si.gov to resolve to a different IP address.
its creating many other errors like cname across multiple accounts
and before you ask, yes i know what a ray id is

Someone bought the domain and is waiting for a payday.

Unlike the other domains, .gov is reserved exclusively for U.S.-based government organizations .
So are you saying that a government organization sniped it?

Yeah obviously I checked the whois already, but even on ai.gov there is a link to https://www.ai.gov/action-plan and it is a 404 so they are kinda incompetent

I have no expertise in this area but suspect transitioning to a different domain name might take a bit longer than the President's thought bubble takes to pop.

Yes, it's clear you have no expertise in this area. From a technical perspective, someone could register a new domain (like si.gov) and point it to the exact same website within an hour. The actual DNS registration may take a day or so to propogate, but at this point it's been almost 7 days so it's clear nobody has even taken the first step.
Perhaps there are particular restrictions on the .gov domain that would make this more challenging, but with personal projects I can pay $10, buy a domain, and have my website showing on that domain within a day, usually within an hour.

I despise the adminstration but, isn't the website actually ai . gov?
12
u/pnw-techie 3d ago
It used to be. It's si.gov now following the lunatic executive order to not call ai ai anymore

I got an error 1000 from Cloudflare when I tried it.
"DNS points to prohibited IP"

Yes. Hence this post. All they had to do was change one letter, how hard could it be

I cannot see SI without thinking Suicidal Ideation.
Years as a counselor and suicide hotline worker drilled that acronym into me. I know it has other meanings, too, but it sure isnt synonymous with AI unless you speak French.

Do you remember when colleges used to say you can use the government as a trusted source so long as you proper cite them? You never needed to check if what they said was true, just because they were consistent enough to be trustworthy.

I hope everyone who ever cited them used a permalink and dated their citation.

Oh, at least the title splash is en español. The web address and corner title, no tanto.

AI in Polish is literally translated as "Sztuczna Inteligencja" (SI). What a coincidence.

This is not a typo, the US government rebranded AI made by US companies to SI (super inteligence) recently. Looks like the web designers missed a few spots.

I'm sure they have other priorities, and this looks like they've made some steps to update things, so it's probably enough to keep up the appearance of cooperation.

The federal government is a fucking joke. What do you expect?
