yup this belongs in a expo or something. my case has to be silent, easy to clean, easy to do maintenance on when needed. it can look like a cardboard box if it does that good.

I played without a proper case for a good while. Point two big fans at the thing and suspend it- there is no better airflow.
Of course that’s only possible temporarily, since if you leave it exposed to long, dust will fuck you.

Bro i used to play that game with my older brother, when doing co-op i always use the brown ship that being controlled using keyboard and my brother use the silver ship using mouse. I always ask him to not take some weapon upgrade so i can use those upgrade. And then sometimes our ship combined and i become a turret while my broter control the ship movements
Ah good times, i played that game in my parent pentium pc

You guys barking about thermal paste have never seen the videos where the application barely matters, if at all right? Even tested myself years ago, a dot vs and X vs a gob, we are talking maybe 1 degree MAYBE 2 and that's within variables of acceptability.

I just had to remount my CPU and it seems the tiny dot method isn't enough anymore. I hit the limit when I ran cinebench with a 7 9800x3d. I remounted and did the X method and it was better.
I don't know if my dot didn't have enough, but having a bit of excess on the side so it doesn't thermal throttle is better now it seems.

Guys. Don’t put one screw in and fully torque it down. Get ALL the screws started in their threads. THEN torque them down. If you torque the first screw down before any other screws are in you may find it quite challenging to get any more screws to thread. The act of torquing one screw down will cause the chassis to shift slightly, misaligning the screw holes.
Do them all at once.

Edit: For all of you that are wondering why, the best application method for paste distribution once pressed on is an X from corner to corner. There is a great youtube video using clear acyclic to show how the paste coverage is affected using various methods.

Edit: in response to the edit, yes some methods create more coverage, but testing shows that more coverage does not translate into significantly better cooling. Others have linked to actual testing from LTT.

i try to put a dot where the stuff is, modern cpu's commonly have a couple chips under the IHS that aren't necessarily center.
i used to use a cooked grain or rice size and heard that was enough

You don't need to cover the entire IHS with thermal paste. The difference is negligible, but the risk of you use too much thermal paste isn't.

When I was a kid I dreamt about a top computer without actually believing I will get it one day. Like a hypercar.
Then I grew up, started working and realised that I can in fact buy a top computer if I wanted to.
Now I once again look at the prices, at the job market, at all the clownery GPU manufacturers pull off and realise that I will never have a top computer.

The ram itself is around 900 USD today. It is a CL28 2x32 GB Kit. Two years ago you could get this tech for less than half the price.
The GPU is way over 2k USD.
If you add everything together, I think the 6 Grad guess from below is not far off.

It's nice, but... I don't look at my PC case when I'm playing games on my PC. Or doing work. I look at the screen. The only time I look at my case is if something is going wrong. And then I fix what is wrong, and then go back to looking at my screen.

Modular cases and better manufacturing techniques really made building a new pc enjoyable. I remember the days when I was building my first few pcs it often requires brute force to get parts installed/removed. The fear of breaking hardware is legit. My friend actually broke his brand new CPU that way once as the pin somehow got bent during installation.
Also, troubleshooting hardware is one of the worst thing as you need to test each piece one by one. I had so many cuts on my hands

Something this caliber is minimum 5k. The more fans you run the lower the rpm you can get away with it a lot of fans running at low rpm vs a few fans at high rpm. It’s basically nearly quiet

So, I like anime, I like PCs. Immaculate build, BUT, and it’s a big but, this is a combination of pretension and 40-year old virgin vibes that I get secondary embarrassment from this. This is for someone who wears a fedora and tips it to women who cross the street when they see them sharing a sidewalk.
And wtf is with those awkward music cues? Is this cut down from a longer video? I know I’ll catch some flack from this but as a nerd and a weeb this feels like something that reinforces many of the negative stereotypes about us.
Edit: that was my knee-jerk reaction; ultimately whatever people do in the privacy of their own homes, RealDolls and all, that’s up to them. I really shouldn’t yuck other people’s yum. Stained anime body pillows and everything.

I'm personally very confused about the fan orientations. Opposite orientation in the front and side means it's just pulling air in and pushing it out immediately without passing over any components. You generally want direction to your airflow - personally I like front intake (lower is better, under the gpu if possible) and then out the top/back. Put the CPU radiator in front or at the top depending on if you value cooler air on cpu or gpu.
