She wanted to reach the 14.5 foot wall ever since she started at the gym

Why is it in slow motion?

u/level1hero 2h ago
It’s actually in real time. The girl ran so fast it warped the space-time continuum

u/Explorerkit 2h ago
I hate when that happens

u/deadspacekillers 1h ago
Well if she warps it enough, you can go back in time and keep it from happening.

I mean, she doesn’t even have access to a deflector dish that can emit an inverse tachyon beam

Beat that wall! Beat that wall!!
This is a standard feature on American Ninja Warrior. It’s great television. You can see at the top of the wall it says Ninja.

Well done! I was able to navigate an entire flight of stairs today and only had to stop once to catch my breath.

Never done this? Is it hard? Or is it just impressive for a kid?

u/Redgreen82 2h ago
It's very hard. You saw she was basically running vertically, right?

u/ThenIndependence5622 1h ago
Never done it and never seen one of these walls, couldn't judge the angle or steepness

Extremely. Your natural inclination is to run into the wall because of the inertia you build up. You have to run fast to get high up, but at some point you have to jump. In order to not hit the wall you have to lean back, but when you jump you have to go straight up and catch the ledge. At the angle you're positioned, you'd naturally jump away from the wall, so right when you jump you have to reposition your body without slipping or touching the wall (creating drag). From there you have to jump using your ankles (not bending your knees).
You not only need speed and power, but have to overcome a lot of natural instincts and ignore the fear of falling back on your head.

The majority of redditors will think any athletic ability is reserved for the elite athletes, and think anyone saying otherwise is larping. (check this comments downvotes)
In reality, this is achievable within a few months if you arent fat or physically disabled. Its just maintaining momentum with leg drive and foot grip.

I did this (on the 14' wall) at my kid's birthday party. Sure, I was playing soccer regularly, but I was 6'5", 300 pounds. The height helped, but the weight certainly did not.
I would say this is mostly about good grip on the shoes and coordination plus height/reach. I was able to grab the rail first try, but I watched far more athletic people unable to reach lower walls.
Of course, when I say I did it, I grabbed the rail and held on. I was then unable to pull myself up, and realized i would have to drop onto a curved wall, and I couldn't use my feet to fall back down because of the awkward curve, so I just had to fall and take it.

Just wall run over twice the height of the average adult male, as a pre-teen girl no less. It's easy. Trust me bro.

They didn't say it was easy, they said it was within reach of a reasonably fit person who is willing to invest a significant effort towards it as a goal.

I have no idea how good I'd be at this (I'm decently athletic) but something tells me I might be absolute ass.
Is it strong quads/glutes or is there a bit more to it?

Sorry about all the joyless pits of apathy commenting about the slomo and music

OP, is this the St Lou location by chance? That runway is cramped/short makes that wall even more of a beast!

I hate to say it but the music sounds so ironic that I kept expecting her to fail 🫣

Isn't this mostly about the traction you wear on your feet? i.e. if you go barefoot you climb maybe 8 feet. If you wear super sticky climbing shoes you climb 14 feet

I had to increase the speed to 320% to get it to run at an acceptable looking speed...

What real worl 14 foot wall has a curve incline rubber surface that kids can run up?
•
u/EmmyWeeeb 12m ago
I remember me and my sister use to basically do this by standing far away from a slide so we’d have a running start. Then we’d run up the slide and try to make it to the top.

So overly edited that I didn't even finish watching it. Just post the video people, or do the slowmo after the real time playthrough.

why does the slow-mo start as soon as what we want to see is happening? why have slow-mo at all? Ruins the entire thing.

The over editing on these ruins it. Just give us the original audio so we can hear their excitement! The stupid slo-mo and music is too much.
