This is the second time she’s done this…first time was in 2016 on a flight from Cancun where she had to be restrained and removed in a stretcher. She claimed she mixed medications and alcohol last time.

That's probably going to be her explanation for this episode as well.

u/Tacitus111 3h ago
Sounds like she just needs to quit alcohol with the meds she needs to be on.
6
u/surrounded-by-morons 3h ago
This might have nothing to do with alcohol and her MS medications. The last time she did this she washed her Ambien down with booze on her flight home from a vacation.

What medical emergency makes you fight with the crew?

u/IamJacksUserID 8h ago
My dad was a very brittle diabetic who got violent when his blood sugar dropped. Local emergency trained new EMTs with my father as a hazing ritual. He bit, he punched, he spit, he pissed himself. And he was a big dude.
Normally he was just a quiet, blue-collar guy, otherwise well respected in the community.
Not saying that’s what this is, just adding my experience.

u/Clean_Brilliant_8586 8h ago
I have also seen a bit of this from a diabetic in the ER. Sugar dropped, and he got a little punchy after he started to revive. Also mild mannered once he leveled off.
48
u/IamJacksUserID 8h ago
My dad ended up Type 1 in his 40s after a pancreatic injury. General consensus was that sometimes his pancreas worked a little, sometimes not at all. You never knew when the shit might hit the fan with a sugar crash.

u/CharZero 6h ago
I know a very lovely person who got banned from a local pharmacy due to her behavior during a diabetic incident. She was absolutely mortified afterwards, and equally horrified she had driven herself there.
59
u/BoogieBearBaby 7h ago
Thats what I was thinking.. She has been diagnosed with MS so I'm wondering if some of those medications are messing with her insulin or something causing her to act out.. I don't know I'm not a medical professional I'm just thinking maybe something like that.. For a regular well-rounded person to just snap it's got to be something like that right?

Dementia, brain bleed, blood sugar that’s WAY out of the normal range, stroke, and of course mental illness.

The kind that "made" her have an incident on a plane years ago:
In June 2016, the actress was removed from a plane on a stretcher and hospitalized after reportedly causing a scene on a flight home from a trip. Blair later apologized in a statement to Vanity Fair, saying at the time that she had been under the influence at the time of the incident.
"I made a big mistake yesterday. After a lovely trip with my son and his Dad, I mixed alcohol with medication, and that caused me to black out and led me to say and do things I deeply regret."
I have a feeling this "medical emergency" will involve booze and drugs again, prescription or otherwise.
36
u/Skensis 7h ago
Booze and ambien is a bad combo.
19
u/HimalayanClericalism 6h ago
Booze and benzos too are known for that paradoxical reaction. Hypnotics and booze are terrible too

u/MathematicianAfter57 8h ago
If you’re on heavy meds that affect your cognitive function— doesn’t she have MS?
56
u/Oxford_Apostrophe 8h ago
It's been known for decades that MS (like similar neurological disorders) can cause violent, unpredictable behavior, especially depending on the part of the brain it attacks.
34
u/masonroese 5h ago
It's also been known for a decade that Selma Blair gets drunk and high before flights and fights the staff hahaha
12
17
u/Boojum2k 6h ago
I've definitely heard of MS patients getting bitey from various friends in medical fields. It's a very rough condition.
25
u/Leading_Elk3178 8h ago
Hypoglycaemia can make patients irritable and aggressive. I was told to look out for it in life support training
59
29
u/PorygonTriAttack 7h ago
If this is a legitimate question, I'm gonna praise this person for asking it. I think we all learned a little bit of something.
I too would've been dismissive of a celebrity PR's team labelling it as a medical emergency, but only because I was unaware and uneducated about the POSSIBILITY of someone with low blood sugar and other medical issues.
We need to take our health seriously. Don't take things for granted. I'm sure Selma wasn't like this when she was younger. She was healthy and could do anything. Nothing seemed impossible.
9
u/Witty_Lead5036 3h ago
She's been bat shit crazy for a long time. There's nothing else to look into here lol
8
u/masonroese 3h ago
Sure we won't know, but she literally got kicked off a plane 10 years ago after she blacked out on drugs and alcohol, before all the MS stuff... But it could just be a complication of MS and a very, very strange coincidence
16
u/Gwenbors 7h ago
Psychosis is a rare, but not unheard of, complication of advanced MS, which Ms Blair has been diagnosed with since 2018.
No idea if it could be a factor here, but this behavior is pretty consistent with a psychotic break.

u/TickingTheMoments 1h ago
Okay. Heres my experience with low blood sugar causing someone to act out.
My mother and first wife were/are type 1 diabetic.
Ive seen both in low blood sugar situations. My ex was the only time ive seen her get angry (physical) in any way. It was when her blood sugar was in the 20s. She had very little physical ability but she was able to get a slap in.I get the excusing the fact that someone with low blood sugar sometimes wont remember what happened during at attack but i believe that of someone gets that low in their blood sugar levels, they don’t have enough coordination to do what she did.
2
u/surrounded-by-morons 3h ago
She did something pretty similar on an airplane about ten years ago. I believe it came out and was caused by her drinking alcohol and taking Ambien.

My mom's insane husband, not my dad, would wake up and fight the ambulance staff trying to save him when his sugar got low, and she had to call 911.
He was capable of violence with his mouth, but never got physical with anyone until his sugar got low. Luckily never my mom and only trained professionals.
After a few strokes, he's less fighty.

So tired of drunks excusing their behavior as a "MeDiCaL InCiDenT". No, you got blacked out drunk again and acted like an idiot.

Yeah she’s cooked, literally committed multiple federal felonies and will definitely be put on the no fly list

Didn’t she do this before? Got hammered on a plane with her son or something like that?

u/SuchMatter1884 5h ago
Her last biting on a plane incident was in 2016.

u/TheWorldofScience 4h ago
Selma Blair is an alcoholic in recovery. She may have had a relapse. Since it’s a 5 hour flight she might have had several alcoholic drinks then been told no more and gotten angry.
•
u/No-Lettuce9868 57m ago
That happened to my aunt but she didn’t try open a door mid flight and bite someone. She talked to herself for the rest of the flight about how unfair it was like a regular person
•
u/TheWorldofScience 45m ago
Yes this situation was bizarre and we might not ever get the details about what caused it if she does a plea deal. It’s obviously a medical issue of some kind as drugs and excessive ingestion of alcohol are medical issues.
No matter what caused this her attorney is going to have to beg an airline to let her fly home to LA, or get her a seat on a charter going to LA, or have someone drive her across the country after the criminal charges are resolved.
It must have been horrible for the crew and passengers on that plane - especially children. Imagine having to comfort your child during an incident like this.
I’d be happy if airlines stopped serving alcohol. Peoplexwho can afford the plane ticket and have anxiety about flying shoukd go to a doctor and get anxiety medication before they fly - not suck down alcoholic drinks.
34
u/geekpeeps 8h ago
Doesn’t she have MS? I’m confused…
90
u/DefinitelyNotAliens 8h ago
Yes, and a prior incident with mixing drugs and alcohol on a flight 10 years ago.
She's also admitted to just... biting people. Her memoir outlines multiple biting incidents.
She seems a bit of a ticking time bomb.
18
u/TillamookTramp 6h ago
Multiple biting incidents? Did she frame them as some sort of cute quirk?
24
u/DefinitelyNotAliens 6h ago
I guess? I only saw another article citing her book. She bit at least two separate celebrities on their first meeting and framed it as nervousness in social situations? A third was not given info as to the timeframe from meeting to chomping. She's admitted to biting 3 celebrities.
Like, "I get so nervous I just bite people!"
I have never bitten people out of nerves. I give weird knuckle bumps and avoid eye contact and laugh too much.
I wonder how many non-celebs she has bitten. Non-consensually, that is.
21
u/TillamookTramp 6h ago
She sounds like an asshole. I know there's people excusing this behavior as an effect from MS brain lesions, but since this same kind of thing happened 10 years ago...
12
5
u/willyouholdmybox 5h ago
Lol wtf. Does she think she's a nervous dog? Hell, you can train that out of a dog with just a little patience and time. How absurd.
6
u/DefinitelyNotAliens 5h ago
Some speculate emotional development halts at the age you attain fame. Hers seems to have stopped somewhere around age 2, if she's biting.
6
10
u/Elegant_Cockroach_24 7h ago
It feels strange because i remember her walking with a stick and looking very frail and struggling to keep a balance.
I hope whatever worked for Selma Blair (obviously something did because here we are) can have the same effect on Christina Appelgate
27
u/astanton1862 8h ago
That disease fucks with all parts of the nervous system. Lesions in the right places and you can get psychosis.
4
u/patrickswayzemullet 8h ago
She is actually a very super responder! Like watch her 2017-18 videos and 2020s. But she is a very annoying person irl.
28
u/ImStillExcited 8h ago
MS doesn't make you crazy. Everyone with MS is different, not one case is the same due to lesions forming in different places, the degree of the lesion. However MS still doesn't make do any of what she did.
I have 24 lesions in my brain, a few in the C section of my spine, and countless throughout my back. I know people with way less that can barely function.
Fun fact: Richard Pryor had MS, and he did not try to open an aircraft door

Does MS cause raging Islamophobia and Zionism?
58
3
u/Random_Person_246810 8h ago
Is that what happened? Didn’t see that in the article (which described a “physical altercation”).
6
u/Victim_Of_Fate 8h ago
I think they’re referring to her being a “terrible person”, not the specific incident on the plane.
10
u/C-tapp 7h ago
No, the Islamophobia and Zionism has been going on much longer than this particular flight. A couple years ago she nuked her own career by posting “Deport all these terrorist supporting goons. Islam has destroyed Muslim countries and then they come here and destroyed minds. They know they are liars. Twisted justifications. May they meet their fate.” A couple weeks ago she was complaining about being canceled and doubling down on meaning what she said. The dog whistle did not have the desired effect because nobody has cared about her career since the early 2000’s.

12
u/CrankyYankers 8h ago
No, but it can and does cause psychological issues. Quick google search.
26
u/LongMelford 8h ago
Can confirm. MS literally bores tiny holes in the brain tissue. These lesions can cause dramatic personality changes, especially if the meds stop working or the patient stops taking them. MS is nasty and horrible. I had a friend slowly waste way from an early onset form that started in her teens and lasted into her 30s before she passed. She had a number of psychotic episodes, and by the end was cutting ties with her friends and loved ones.

u/AMediaArchivist 6h ago
My mom was officially diagnosed with MS years after she started experiencing symptoms after she had me in her early 20s. Very gradually, she started getting worse, lost her vision, trouble speech, in a wheelchair and then finally after 10 years, after years on steroids and antidepressants and who knows what, she started a whole different personality. She talked to these “people” and told me that I was too stupid to see them. I told her she was going crazy and she started yelling and screaming at me. This lasted another 5 years until she ended up paralyzed and unable to finally swallow. She got put on a feeding tube and apparently her MRI scans showed that she had very little brain activity now. We eventually gave her a comfortable hospice in her own home and she passed after 3 weeks. It was absolutely heartbreaking for dad and me but we were relieved that we didn’t have to wake up hearing her yelling and screaming at people that didn’t exist anymore and that she was at peace. MS totally sucks and I don’t wish it on my worst enemy.

No she's not Blair and Biden have been besties for years and shes always supported Democratic nominees. Dont further the bullshit narrative with your straight up lies.
1
u/ItsDomorOm 7h ago
A simple Google search tells you everything. She supports Biden only because of his interest in curing/treating diseases like MS but she's a registered Republican, liked Charlie Kirk posts as well as typical MAGA pundits and commented positively when he won in 2025.
Well it's true that MS does cause outlandish behavior like holes in the brain etc, I've actually read her book and was a fan of hers previously and that was not a symptom that she had or was expected to have.
What's happened is she has turned into a typical Trump voter where everything has to be her way or nothing.
Look into the last issue she had when she was kicked off a plane a few years ago and what she was yelling at the flight attendants.
Believe me I read her book years ago with tears in my eyes because she had such a terrible upbringing but once you realize sometimes people are just garbage, you have to deal with it.

u/2020surrealworld 6h ago
“Don’t you know who I AM??!!”
That line worked so well for her drinking buddy Reese Witherspoon.

u/bookjacket 3h ago
I thought she was heavily medicated for Multiple Sclerosis? I'm surprised no one mentioned that in any of these accounts.

u/Srnkanator 9h ago
She will be receiving federal charges and heading to prison for a bit after all is said and done.
She will not be able to be on a commercial flight ever again.

The posted article:
Actress Selma Blair was arrested Sunday following an alleged altercation with flight attendants aboard a Delta flight from Los Angeles to New York City, according to the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey.
The Port Authority Police Department responded to a call Sunday night at John F. Kennedy International Airport regarding a physically abusive passenger, later identified as Blair, aboard the Delta flight, which was parked at the gate, according to Port Authority officials.
Blair was taken into custody following the alleged incident and transported to a hospital.
In a statement to ABC News, Blair's representative said, "Selma experienced a medical emergency that led to the alleged conduct. Upon landing, she received immediate medical attention and is currently in stable condition."
This is a developing story. Please check back for updates.

When you’re poor, the media reports as a psychotic break down, but when you’re rich and famous, the media likes to call it a medical emergency

More details from another article:
1:20 PM PT -- Law enforcement sources tell TMZ ... The FBI issued Selma a federal summons, which is called a violation notice. We're told the summons charges her federally with "assault within the special maritime and territorial jurisdiction of the United States."
11:25 AM PT -- TMZ has also obtained audio from an eyewitness of when Blair was exiting the plane at JFK Airport ... and you can hear her screaming bloody murder as an alarm rings.
11:05 AM PT -- We have more details ... One of the flight attendants sustained a laceration and the other a bite. We're told Blair was put in restraints on the plane and arrested upon landing. Law enforcement also tells TMZ when Blair was in the ambulance en route to the hospital, she repeatedly kicked a Port Authority police officer in the head.
When the ambulance reached the hospital, we're told Blair allegedly assaulted a nurse, who has pressed charges.
The State has charged Blair with 2 counts of assault -- one on a police officer and another on a nurse.
Selma Blair allegedly caused chaos aboard a Delta Airlines plane ... punching one flight attendant and biting another in the middle of the flight.
We're told the actress became physically abusive while the plane was in the air Sunday on its way to John F. Kennedy International Airport ... getting into a physical confrontation with crew members.
In dispatch audio, obtained by TMZ, officials requested medical personnel at the gate after reports of minor injuries, including a bloody nose and bite marks.
The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey tells TMZ 2 flight attendants reported injuries and one was taken to the hospital.
Blair was arrested and taken to a hospital for evaluation, where she remains as of this post. The FBI is currently investigating the incident.
The dispatch audio notes the disruptive passenger apparently bashed her head against a bulkhead ... with law enforcement waiting when the plane landed.
A rep for Selma tells TMZ ... "Selma experienced a medical emergency that led to the alleged conduct. Upon landing, she received immediate medical attention and is currently in stable condition."
It's unclear what caused the medical emergency or whether Selma could face any criminal charges.
A Delta spokesperson tells TMZ ... “Delta has zero tolerance for unruly or unlawful behavior, as the safety of our customers and crew always comes first."
This isn't Blair's first run in on a flight. In 2016, she was removed by stretcher after an outburst on a flight.
Selma's most recent public appearance came earlier this month at an Anti-Defamation League event in New York City.
She looked to be in good spirits on Oct. 1 at "State of the Arts: An Evening at The Jewish Museum."
Selma is best known for her roles in "Cruel Intentions," "Legally Blonde," "The Sweetest Thing" and the "Hellboy" films.
