We'll be seeing more raids targeted at Democratic lawmakers in the months and years to come. They'll never amount to real charges, but that's not really the point.

2.4k

u/severedbrain 16h ago

It’s an excuse to steal documents. See, Nixon’s team got in trouble for breaking in to the DNC offices at the Watergate Hotel. Trump is just sending thugs with a badge to toss the place. Give it the veneer of legitimacy. Like his teeth.

u/sephjnr 16h ago

Odd choice to call Putin's shit on his teeth a 'veneer'

If MAGA remains in power indefinitely, there will eventually be the outright execution of Democrats. We're dealing with fascism, and history has already shown us quite clearly what happens next.

614

u/HuoLongHeavy 16h ago

That's exactly what they're building up to. That's why they're publicly executing a mass shooter, he's unquestionably a monster. So they're going to be given an inch and will take a mile.

If MAGA remains in power indefinitely, there will eventually be the outright execution of Democratics. We're dealing with fascism, and history has already shown us quite clearly what happens next.

I can absolutely see this happening. Maybe they'll call it 'reparations' and allow their frothing base to keep the possessions of the victims. Even the most die-hard and devoted of their base will eventually expect something for their loyalty and this would be one way to give them a little bread to go along with the circus.

Even assuming that they would bother needing a pretext, it's so easy to "create a criminal." Ex left behind their adderall in the medicine cabinet? If you pick locks as a hobby, you have burglary tools. Stash cash for emergencies? Encrypted hard drive? Republicans made a meal out of Clinton having a home server.

610

u/akpenguin 16h ago

Clinton having a home server.

But leaving a bunch of boxes of classified materials in a bathroom is the proper procedure for their guy.

Hey, those documents were only stuffed into the bathroom after they found out that they needed the stage where they were previously stashed for something else.

Clinton’s Benghazi investigation was to do that as well, they even said so. Republican House majority leader Kevin McCarthy, told Sean Hannity on Fox News, "Everybody thought Hillary Clinton was unbeatable, right? But we put together a Benghazi special committee, a select committee. What are her numbers today? Her numbers are dropping."

77

u/Paizzu 16h ago

The average professional in this country wakes up in the morning, goes to work, comes home, eats dinner, and then goes to sleep, unaware that he or she has likely committed several federal crimes that day. Why? The answer lies in the very nature of modern federal criminal laws, which have exploded in number but also become impossibly broad and vague. In Three Felonies a Day, Harvey A. Silverglate reveals how federal criminal laws have become dangerously disconnected from the English common law tradition and how prosecutors can pin arguable federal crimes on any one of us, for even the most seemingly innocuous behavior.

Harvey Silverglate's Three Felonies A Day: How the Feds Target the Innocent

21

u/frongles23 16h ago

This book is an attempt to argue against government and is largely overblown.

33

u/Paizzu 16h ago

argue against government

Because arguing against the government is anathema to productive discourse? Last time I checked, the DOJ (whom we're arguing against in this very thread) is part of the three branches of government.

Don't take my advise. Listen to a law professor explaining why you should "never talk to the police" due to the spurious nature in which they can manufacture prosecutions.

They'll never amount to real charges

Don't be so sure about that. If the current GOP feels they can't win legitimately, they'll start jailing their opponents.

Its been the authoritarian/fascist playbook for generations.

27

u/jcooli09 16h ago

They have failed to capture much of the the judiciary. Betond a few outliers judges still require valid arguments and evidence which withstands scrutiny.

They're sure they're never giving up power. And if we don't fight, thats exactly whats going to happen.

46

Yes they absolutely will. Even Yarvin realized the highwater mark was last February and it is all downhill for the right from here on out. Trump spent his political capital stealing money and backing russia rather than consolidating power. Now we swing hard left.

I want to know what joke of a judge signed that warrant. Probably the same one that approved seizing ballots in Fulton County.

70

u/wino12312 16h ago

What most concerns me is that career law enforcement officials are going along with this. And did they get a judge to agree to this? It seems that along with pizzagate, the deep state is also a manifestation of their own behaviors.

22

u/Eye_Re-fuse 16h ago

The Justice Department said in a statement Monday that HSI agents executed a judicially authorized search warrant secured by the department in the Washington, D.C., area but provided no other details.

According to the Justice Department, they did have a warrant.

Curious to see whether there really is something to this, or whether they have found a judge who is willing to play along with whatever nonsense they cook up

Given how many examples of politically motivated "investigations" this administration has undertaken that went nowhere, the chances of this raid being "justifiable" are pretty much zero.

Trump has spent years claiming that democrats weaponized the federal government against him, when in reality they always had legitimate reasons to look into the things he was doing.

Now he's the one actually weaponizing the federal government against his political enemies, giving no justification for it, and I'm sure his followers will just say "Oh, so it was ok for Biden to do it?!"

Anyone with more than one brain cell can the the plot from a mile away.

171

u/kradaan 16h ago

His zealots are all but rabid over this. Literally been spoon fed so much outrage using 1/2 truths & lies ,they truly think democrats are just like their orange savior. They just think democrats are better protecting each other & not that their clerics have been lying to them.

13

u/Less_Resident8492 16h ago

No one cares what his zealots think. It's the other 60 million people who voted for him in 2024 because they were convinced he was on their side that will see this and be impacted.

What can the average citizen do though? I vote but how does my vote for whatever progressive/democratic candidate help curtail shit like this? What else can someone do

I feel so helpless and I’m sure it’s by design

10

u/Kradget 16h ago

It's definitely by design.

The vote undercuts their power later. That works directly (they get fewer supporters in the legislature) and indirectly (if they get demolished in the vote, people will continue to cut ties and isolate them).

You can also help other people to vote.

You can protest. That gets handwaved a lot, but conservatives are scared shitless of mass protests - that's why they always want to overreact.

You can call other politicians and demand action. Point out that this sure seems to be a clear abuse of power to intimidate political opposition, and tell them you want it stopped and investigated.

17

u/Wally-Walker 16h ago edited 16h ago

That is the point of all this; making you feel helpless and that your vote doesn’t matter is the goal - your vote isn’t useless until you’re not allowed to do it.

u/manuduncan6666 16h ago

Federal authorities on Monday morning raided the Washington, D.C., area home of Rep. Ilhan Omar, a Minnesota Democrat, as part of a criminal fraud investigation into her immigration paperwork filled out by her father, Fox News reported, citing a person familiar with the situation.

I know its never happening, but, with this precedent, I hope the terrorist orgs at J6 get labelled as such, and that any congress people with ties to them get raided.

FULL BLOWN FASCISM. If you value your rights and freedom vote blue in the midterms. They are kidnapping innocent immigrants and American citizens off the street and throwing them into ICE gulags where they are dying due to catastrophic conditions. This is no joke.
