Almost sounds like a long lost New Order track.

Not only is the technical execution perfect, but you can see the song coming together in real time. Just sublime! They have always been so ahead of their time.

Dream Attack is the ninth and final track from New Order's fifth album, Technique.

What do you think about the track both in general and in comparison to the rest of the band's discography, and how would you rate it out of 10 (decimals allowed)?

I'm doing an album listening session for Technique today at 8:00 pm EDT / 5:00 pm PDT. It's online and free. Everyone presses play on their own streaming app at the same countdown and chats while it plays. I've actually never listened to Technique front-to-back, so would love some with insight to share it with.

The room opens 30 minutes early if you want to say hello and get your app queued up before the countdown.

Full disclosure: this is on an app I run called Sound Club. It's book clubs for music. My club is in the middle of exploring new wave this week so there might be some other albums for you to dive into, as well!

I've spent the last few days researching and writing a detailed history of Factory Records, from the Sex Pistols' appearances at Manchester's Lesser Free Trade Hall in 1976 through to the label's collapse in November 1992.

It's remarkable how much came out of one independent record label. Joy Division, New Order, Happy Mondays, A Certain Ratio and The Durutti Column were all part of its history, alongside Martin Hannett's production, Peter Saville's artwork and, of course, The Haçienda.

What interests me most is how Factory's greatest strengths arguably contributed to its downfall. The artists enjoyed extraordinary creative freedom, but expensive record sleeves, the financial demands of The Haçienda and the absence of conventional recording contracts eventually caught up with the company.

I've covered the people, records, decisions and stories behind it all in a new long-form feature for my independent music website, Beyond the Grooves.

Here's the article:

https://www.beyond-the-grooves.co.uk/blog/you-either-make-money-or-you-make-history

I'm interested in what other fans think. Was Factory's collapse inevitable, or could Tony Wilson and the others have preserved its independence while running a more sustainable business?

Hi there I was lucky enough to get tickets for the showing of 24 hour party people followed by a q&a with Michael Winterbottom last night (08/10/2026) at Glasgow Film Theatre.

Really great to see the film again and the q&a was great too.

Michael Winterbottom spoke quite a lot about the depiction of real people in the film and how generally most people or their families were happy with the way they were depicted. He also said that Bernard was a visitor to the set on a few occasions, to kind of offer guidance on the film and to see how he and the band were being depicted.

There was a really interesting question from a woman who had been an extra in the film. She said that basically she had just spent two days partying in the replica of the Hacienda that had been built. She said being an extra on that film had been tbe best two days of her life.

Michael Winterbottom confirmed that for the club scenes they just set it up and operated as a nightclub filming the antics and reactions of the extras, it's a tough job but someone's got to do it.

My attitude to the film had changed slightly from the first time I saw it. Tony Wilson has since died and many of the acts shown have had career resurgence and are performing and still playing. I think it gives a slightly different tilt to the film, rather than documenting the decline of factory and the associated acts it shows a period of artistic explosion which carries on even once the fire and smoke dissappear.

Great night though and great to see the film again.

New order was a big band for me in the '80s growing up in Germany songs like "bizarre Love triangle" "shell shock" and "Blue Monday" are some of my favorites. I used to listen to this band all the time growing up in Germany especially when it was raining out and cold and wet which most of the time in Germany it is I think the highest it gets is like 80° anyway I digress. I was a very depressed child an artistic child. I didn't really set out to become a keyboard player or a musician it just happened naturally. And New Order played a part in that.

Don't get me wrong, I love this album, but I find it to be a somewhat poor experience listening front to back. To me this is New Order 60% of the way to where they would end up, 30% electronic experiments similar to and important to the creation of Blue Monday, and 10% trying to be Joy Division. I LOVE plenty of the songs off of this album, but it's hard to listen to the whole thing without feeling like it's just a collection of random new order tracks. I dunno, I know plenty of people will disagree with me, that's fair as this is just an opinion.

As for what I think is their best album, I'd say Low-Life. The Perfect Kiss is one of New Order's best songs to many people, and I find that the rest of that album matches or exceeds the quality of that song in my opinion, which also might be a wild take, but oh well.

Anywho, let me know what y'all think, change my mind, or agree with me, I'm just curious to see what y'all think.

I just listened to their first self titled album and it was fantastic, sounds similar to Technique instrumentally and lyrically is quite angry, probably the most angry I've seen Bernard in an album.

Gangster, Reality, Getting Away With It and Idiot Country are my favourites.

Yet to listen to Raise the Pressure and Twisted Tenderness outside of Forbidden City, For You, Dark Angel and Vivid though.

Round & Round is the fourth track from New Order's fifth album, Technique.

I'm going to start adding longform and shortform content.

I have several hundred New Order items, many rare ones, and a semi complete collection.

Heres a teaser of some procession singles, i've gotten more since then.

I’ve always loved New Order, and recently I’ve come back around to Crystal and remembered what an absolute genius track it is.

One of my favorite parts is the outro — that little piano figure with the syncopated drum groove underneath it. It almost feels like a tiny bit of hip-hop/breakbeat sneaking into a New Order track, and I love it. I just wish that section went on longer.

Does anyone know if there’s a remix, alternate mix, demo, live version, etc. that highlights or extends that part of the song? I’ve seen that there are quite a few Crystal remixes, but I’m specifically looking for something that preserves or develops that outro rather than completely reworking the song into a club mix.

First post here, so apologies if this has been discussed before or there’s somewhere obvious I should be looking. Thanks!
