My newfie walks while he poops?
I have a 5 month old newfie saint bernard mix. This is my first time having a dog of this breed and I don’t know if this is a breed specific thing or just a him thing. But everytime I take him outside to poop he likes to walk while hes pushing it out. Often times in a circle or just a line. It makes picking it up annoying because its not in one spot. Sometimes I will miss a turd and almost step in it. Im curious if anyone elses dog does this, and if there is a way for me to train him into not doing it anymore.

Bath time and Fur management?
How do you bathe a 150+ pound dog who is supposedly supposed to love water? My girl Lucyfur, "Lucy" has to be taken outside once a week for bath time. In the warmer months this isn't an issue but, in winter it's impossible. She absolutely hates water, so I have to chase her down and just dump water on her to rinse. She loves the snow, so in winter I just let her roll around in it. She's getting up there in age as well, with hip issues starting to manifest, so climbing in and out of a vehicle is a no go anymore.

My sweet boy and anticipatory grief
This is a sad post. I just was to share some photos of Sam and talk about what a good dog he is.
Sam has been my best friend for the past 6 1/2 years. He has been with me through marriage, divorce, and tremendous loss. My life has been mostly tumultuous but he has been by my side every step of the way. Next spring he will be with me for another milestone when I have my first child. I always wanted to get a camper so I could take him on adventures, and this summer my spouse and I finally did it. As the season is coming to an end I have just been hit by a huge wave of grief knowing that I have less time left with him than I've had with him. He has arthritis in a back leg that is only getting worse, and now has it in a front leg. Most days he is fine, others if he moves slightly wrong he can't stand unassisted for days. It breaks my heart that such a happy loving animal can be subject to something so painful. Medication aside, he is starting hydrotherapy next week and I'm looking into laser treatment as well. I hope that these can help manage his pain better and keep him active for years to come.

Loki, pt 2
This is the face of the majestic beast who somehow made it into my toddler’s crib. He’s on patrol.

Somehow, Loki managed this.
Madness, I tell you.
Loki is 16 months old and my son is 19 months old. It’s never boring here!

What to know before getting a pup? Is it a good decision?
For context, we currently have a (lazy) 4 yo GSD who has social anxiety, and are looking for a good friend for her to help with socialization. We had always taken her to public areas as a pup, but eventually something flipped in her mind and she is not a fan of strangers these days (not aggressive, mostly scared 😞).
Our neighbor, when they moved it, had a Newfoundland who would always come over and chill in our yard when we were out - even tho they didn’t know us - and just seemed so happy to be making new friends.
My questions are: 1) are Newfoundlands really some of the chillest/easier socialized dogs (have seen this in various posts when researching) and 2) how much should we be looking to spend for one?
Any info is appreciated from your experience with this beautiful breed 🥰
Edit: we have personally raised a Husky and a GSD mix before, but also grew up with both of these breeds (and malamutes) so just trying to get a feel how Newfies fit in to this equation.

TANK'S BABY BROTHER
We adopted a Newfie mix puppy last week. Meet Magnus. His momma is a purebred Landseer Newfie who was rescued with a litter of puppies. Momma was owned by a pair of addicts who passed from drug overdoses a few months apart from each other. Momma was left on her own. It was very sad. I'm glad momma and the babies were found and brought to a good rescue facility. One of the littermates had a DNA test done and she came back 50% Newf / 25% German Shepherd / 10% Pyrenees / 15% unknown. All the puppies look exactly like momma. Tank was super excited when we brought him home, for about 30 seconds. He's tolerating him now. For those wondering how it's going: he's in Velocipuppy stage and doing very well.

My beautiful Newfie cross girl is leaving today
After five and a half years of love, kindness and gentle hugs, we've got to say goodbye to our beautiful girl. She has bone cancer in her front shoulder, shes in so much pain and is really struggling so tonight we're letting her go.
She's always been such a great character, loves swimming and children. Hates sighthounds, huskies and tiny dogs for mystery reasons only known to her. She was just starting to get her distinguished white fur. Now she'll never get anymore.
We've spent the last few days letting her do everything she isn't supposed to, cuddling with her, hell I even slept half the night in the garden with her so she wouldn't be alone. She doesnt like being alone. Please tell me this pain in my heart will one day be manageable, and please tell me im doing the right thing letting her go before her pain gets any worse.

Looking for an NYC Newf to say hello to
I’ve recently moved to New York and I’ve been missing my family’s Newfie terribly. If there are any Newfie owners who are down to meet up please let me know!
