WIP hunting chest pack

My son and my boyfriend both love hunting. I decided I’d like to make them versatile chest pouches. This is my blueprint for them so far after researching various pouches. This is my first time drafting my own pattern as well. Currently in the process of mocking everything up with paper

The “x” piece is for the back and over the shoulders. Webbing and plastic buckles will attach the back portion to the front pouches. I think there will be removable pouches for both sides I just didn’t draw them both on the blueprint

Wondering if anyone else has made one? I plan to use water resistant/proof cordura. Would regular zippers be alright or would water resistant/proof zippers be a must? Lined is best I imagine?? First gear project.

I've made a fishing chest pack from myog angler, you could perhaps take some inspiration from that pattern?

I’ve made a chest pack before and I imagine it could be very interesting for hunters, too. I wanted to make something like the x-piece you’re planning, too, but haven’t gotten to it yet.

With the zippers, I’d rather use water resistant ones. I personally like them better, because they are protecting the contents better than regular ones, and they look better. They also help adding structure if the fabric is thin or soft and is easily deformed.

For the fabric, water resistant/proof cordura definitely is a good choice. Waxed canvas would also be good, because the look of it generally goes well for hunting gear.

But my advice would be to make it horizontal, not vertical. That way it will offer a clearer view inside and it provides easier access. That’s why I made mine with a zipper that goes to the bottom and with wings inside, which also keeps things from falling out.

I used the Helikon tex chest packs for inspiration.
