I have a question about side pockets of backpacks.

What are the advantages and disadvantages of a side pocket with non stretchy fabric and a cinch cord with either a half circular piece of fabric on the bottom or just folding the fabric to make enough room for 2 one litre bottles and a trekking pole?

Is one easier to take bottles out? Is the one with just folding more secure?

A non stretchy pockets should be easier to get a bottle out of. You should check out ospreys pockets, which can be used in a straight up and down, or at an angle. There is two “top” openings. It’s a useful design, because I don’t have to reach so far back and up to put my Nalgene in.

My question was just about non stretchy fabric. Yeah, I like their design. I used an osprey for a few months as well.

Another thing is that even the best stretch fabric can lose elasticity and is more prone to wear from scuffing.
