Seeking Advice Puppy keeps blowing air out his nose

Post image

Hello! Newer dog owner here and in the past few days we’ve noticed our puppy keeps blowing air out of his nose. It doesn’t look like anything is stuck in his nose and the seasons are changing so I’m wondering if it’s maybe allergies? Just wondering if anyone else has seen there dog do this, and if so what was the cause? Thanks!

Seeking Advice Whining for attention

Any tips to deal with high pitched whining for attention?

My mini is a great dog, and doesn't have separation anxiety when we leave the house. However, when I'm home, he will follow me around and whine until I give him direct attention.

If I give him a bone, he will hold the bone and look at me and whine.

For the most part I just give in. This includes moving from the couch to the bed to read because he can't fit on the couch next to me.

However, sometimes I need to do an hour of work. I'll walk him first, give him some attention, then get started. At least 50% of the time, he whines. He will whine for the whole hour if I ignore him. If I close the door, he whines at the door. If I give him a treat puzzle, he ignores it. If I put him outside, he bark-whines. He doesn't like lick mats.

I'm the only human he does this with! My attention is not that exciting!

Any tricks to decrease attention seeking in the form of a very high pitched whine?

I'll take advice or commiseration!

Behold my Aussie From shelter to happy home

Mocha was taken to the shelter due to other dogs in the previous owners home being mean to her (That’s the story we got).. We’ve had her a little over a month and this girl has brought nothing but joy and laughter into our home. So loving and so funny. Shes 8 months old.

Her previous owners clearly loved her. We are so lucky to have a loving fur rocket like her.

Tomorrow she goes back to the vet for her 2nd flu vaccine so she can go to group play. She loves other dogs but she’s our only one. So she needs that play time. She also goes to the vets office for grooming next week (we have a really awesome vet clinic that has all the stuff in one place! Plus my sister works there and I get her discount 😅.. All that putting up with my sister has paid off)

Mini Aussie Monday Mini Aussie Monday Feature: Brisbane

Post image

Today we're excited to showcase Brisbane, submitted by u/Zaneinthefastlane

Brisbane, aka Brisket, is a 15mo very athletic mini with a nice off button and a goofy personality.

He absolutely lives for his frisbee and his agility lessons where he barrels though the courses fearlessly. We will soon be joining a Flyball club as well!

His favorite food is whatever is on his parent's plate...and cheese. His favorite toy is Frisbee!

He recently learned to work the door handles and open doors so there is nowhere to hide. He is also the first dog in 20 years to sleep in our bed, thanks to his sheer stubbornness and inability to take no for an answer.

Big thanks again to their pet parent for submitting them! Brisbane is our featured Mini Aussie of the week representing our sub.

New environment causing new behaviors?

We recently moved states and also from my parents home to an apartment. The apartment is on the ground floor, and it’s a two story building.

My mini never usually barks at dogs who are walking by the window, and when we are sitting outside on the front porch at home, he will just watch them walk by. On walks, he never minds them either.

However, since moving, he barks at every dog walking by, and when we are actually on walks, he sometimes will bark and lunge at the dogs walking by. He’s not aggressive, but more so protective?

I’m worried that he’s upset about the move, and I’m not sure how to correct his behavior without instilling more anxiety.

Any advice!?

Seeking Advice Brushing our toofees….

Post image
43 Upvotes

So our two boys are two and 2 1/2…. They love their Benebones, ALOT!!!…. We have gotten rid of some that are somewhat small no way they would choke on them, but just because we’re bringing in new it seems all the time… and they are not small petite puppy benebones. They’re 18 and 20 pounds. They have a ritual after they eat to definitely “brush their toothies”… we keep them active all day long, but there is such a thing as needing some downtime, but that’s their go to when they’re bored.
So any ideas on how much bone chewing is too much bone chewing? No we don’t like the fact that they’re getting plastic but they’re the only things that seem to hold up and not shear off or disappear in 10 seconds. So yes, we know we have aggressive chewers. We’ve tried many different things they like their yak and their collagen sticks, bully sticks, but the yaks sometimes break off in big pieces so they have to be watched. Feel a little more comfortable with them, chewing on Ben bones.
Worried at this young age and so much chewing. have had other dogs and they didn’t chew like these ones. Worried they will be wearing down their teeth …
Thoughts?

Constantly wanting to go outside

Just as title says.

I begin to ask myself a lot of second guessing as I don’t know if I am doing things right.

Sydney was trained to ring the bell on the door knob when she needs to go outside for potty and she continues to do that.

What she also continues to do is ring the bell just because she wants to go outside in general. There has been many times when she will ring the bell then go outside to just sit under our large maple tree and watch the birds go by.

I do play around with her in the yard as well as in the house but I am questioning this constantly wanting to go outside; is that a herding instinct?

I’m trying to understand why this little lady does what she does. What really frustrates me is she tends to think that she needs to be right by my side 24/7/365 and it really raises trouble when migraines kick in.

Thank you for any suggestions on how to get through this situation. By the way, Sydney is 6 months old.

They seem to be having fun but is my older mini being too aggressive?

They cuddle together and share toys but when they get wound up it can get wild. Should I stop this or encourage this?

Thanks in advance

So I picked her up today, set up the playpen with food, water, tray for poo/pee and blanket to for sleeping, this afternoon every time I let her out of there she peed and pooed everywhere, like 6-7 times...my question to you is, is this normal? Any tips on how to prevent this from happening?

Discussion Curious about Aussie coats

Post image
39 Upvotes

Our mini Milo is 3 years old and we spend a lot of time outdoors. He often gets muddy and full of burrs. I have noticed that when he gets dirty, even when I don’t get him bathed immediately, within hours it’s like everything he was dirty with is on his bed and he looks perfectly clean! Is that because of their double coats or something else? Our lab/Mastiff needs a bath when he gets super dirty!
