I'm slightly vexed My grandma keeps eating my mom’s lemon bars.
I made lemon bars for my mom’s bday, and my grandparents are over to work on repairing a door in my brother’s room. My grandparents keep eating them, specifically my grandma. She keeps walking over and cutting herself pieces and eating them as she walks around the house. Her and my grandparents took about a third of them to bring home and freeze to eat later. I made them for my mom’s birthday, not for anyone else. I’m sitting here seething, although i know it’s not a big deal. Annoying.

Your grandparents are over to help your mother with repairs. I would just make a 2nd batch of lemon bars, these people are your family helping your mother. These are the people who raised your mother, and your angry over a few snacks......

It's not the snacks though. The issue is about respect, the grandparents started eating lemon bars that didn't belong to them without asking or having courteousy to understand what they were for. They burdened op by making them remake these without being considered enough to ask about the situation. They suck.

Whenever i vist my grandparents, they offer me an endless supply of food/drinks. They ask did you have lunch/dinner yet always trying to feed me. These are your family members, not friends or people off the street.
They know there is no need to ask me when visiting can they grab a drink or snacks from the fridge. Because they are welcome to it. Unless your family is horrible why wouldnt u do the same.
She admitted they are visiting to help repair her mother's house. I cant see them being bad people, let them have some of your snacks.

Your grandma wouldn't scold you if you helped yourself to a slice of birthday cake she prepared for someone else's birthday? Mine sure as heck would, and this situation is no different.

The grandparents wouldnt slice up a birthday cake, thats different then some baked cookies/lemon bar's. That i agree would be bad manners, noone would do that i would hope.

What's your mom say? Maybe she's cool with it.

She hasn’t said anything, but i think she’s chill with it. I’m just irked that so much of my present to her went elsewhere.

Just some advice to make life easier. Be generous with food, it is the easiest way to show love and caring. You must be a good baker because they kept wanting more. Also, your mom was probably going to share the lemon bars with them anyway. A few lemon bars helped to show gratitude for your grandparents coming over and doing presumably free work on the house.

Take them away? Is this your first day as an adult?

Well ain’t quite an adult yet, and she took them while i was gone and told me about them after. I’d get scolded if i asked her not to eat any more.

You would get scolded for asking somebody to not eat a dessert that was made in a special preparation for somebody's party?

Unfortunately so. I can already hear it in my head- “it’s not that big a deal! Calm down, fussy pants. Someone’s cranky today.” Even though i’m a few months from being an adult..

That says much more about them not wanting to take responsibility for their own actions than it reflects on you for pointing out their offenses. I hope the next chapter of your life gives you a different perspective.

You wrote this as if your next response is to tell HR and complain to her manager lmaoooo

It is a big deal! You told them that you made them specially for your mom’s birthday, and they ignored that and ate/took them anyway. That is so wrong! Are these grandparents your mom’s parents or your dad’s?

They’re my mom’s parents, and they live just a few minutes away. My grandma takes me to school every Monday, and has been popping over several times a day right now to work on my brother’s room.

Do they have a history of disregarding your mom’s feelings? Because it sounds like they do.

If these are your mom’s parents then they raised your mom and probably this is something that is normal to them and the relationship they have with their daughter (your mom). I would never begrudge my mom food in my home.
I would maybe ask your mom afterwards if you should make more for her (and maybe in the future now that you know that your grandparents like them it can be something you make as gifts for them as well).

I know it's annoying but I would see it as a compliment, your lemon bars must be delish! I'm sure your mom isn't too bothered by it or she would've probably said something.. (I hope).
Perhaps on your grandma's birthday make her some lemon bars as well and announce that everyone gets their own batch on their birthday ?
I dunno, I feel the irritation but try not to stress over it.. grandparents won't be here forever

Go ahead and plan your revenge. Grandma now only gets lemon themed items from you as gifts. Shirts with lemon prints, pens with a lemon design, lemon squeezer, lemon themed kitchen decor, fake lemons in a bowl, lemon scented lotions, lemon earrings, lemon socks, lemon slippers, etc,…
Let any complaints fall on deaf ears. Keep doing it for one year at minimum. Never say why. If someone guesses, never confirm.
ETA: include gramps in the lemon revenge.

Maybe they totally adore the fact that you are such a good baker ! If it was gross then your grama probably would have commented by now. Maybe ask for some good quality food storage containers for Christmas or birthday and get some cute labels saying keep your muggy gups out of my baking! Tell that to your Grama see what she says! Muggy gups ! I can see you opening a successful bakery shop in the future! PS lemon squares I will take half a dozen please !

It sounds like your very good at baking and you have egar tester's. We have some reusable bees wax wraps for wrapping up food to give them that extra home made touch.
This might be something to look at for Xmas so you can packyour mum lunch while at work and she will make all her co-workers jealous having a thoughtful child. A little handwriting card in each is SSS-teir parents goal like the handprints from kindergarten.
The rest of the slice will probably get eaten by your extended family but that means you can make your mum a different slice sooner. A whole tray of baked goods is a lot of the same thing to eat.

Seething seems a bit heavy. Definitely not worse than ammoying to be sure. Was your mom going to eat the whole batch? What about diabetes?

u/ReiDidAThing 4h ago
She chips away at it for like two weeks usually. But yeah, i feel a bit silly getting upset over dessert.

Put your username to use and do something tell them the dish was planned for, Jesus Murphy are you touched in the head ?

I told them, she just doesn’t care. Anything that I bake gets tasted whenever she comes over, no matter how much is left.

I’m sorry OP that sucks - lots of people are hard headed, myself included, happy birthday to mother I’m sure your love and the thought of you making a present will make her happy.

Do people in your home often take things without your input, even when it’s important? I can see why this would be upsetting and especially when it’s something special you made for your mom.
