I got a truck. And a hitch. And I remove it whenever I am not using it

I use a hitch cover whenever I'm not towing.

Yeah, but that requires empathy or decency

And self awareness

Usually not featured in truck owners

•

Yeah it was a mistake to make it an optional add-on

This. I tow maybe twice or 3 times per year. It doesn't take long to install/re-install.

The thing is, these mofos leave them on like it's a fucking trophy. Yeah bro, I see your big ass truck...thanks for pretending to use it by leaving your big ass hitch on too.

People who really use them wouldn't leave them on like a lazy idiot.

TIL They cost like $750. Bold move making them easier to steal like this.

Hey now! These mofos are the reason i have a personal collection of about 30 hitches!

I have both also. I don’t back into spots. I keep it in because I tow daily, and I use the further out spots and walk. I have scars on my shins from this behavior. It’s easier for me to keep the rig in the hitch. It’s also a fair compromise to park far away so no one gets injured, including myself.

Yes, but a real rear impact will fuck you up. Trailer hitches don’t crumple.

And thank you for your service!

I have a truck and a hitch, I do not remove it when I’m not using it because I use it at minimum every second day.

But I always make sure I park somewhere my hitch is either into a bush or a non pedestrian area. I also don’t park with a stall behind me in case someone doesn’t see it

Where are supposed to dangle your truck nutz??/s

I have a truck. Sometimes too lazy to remove hitch. I simply park a good one foot before curb and therefore cause no problems

I tow frequently. If I know I’m going to need it in a week or less, I leave it on. If I know it’s going to be a few weeks, I pop it off.

I know it’s only 30 seconds, but I just don’t worry about it that much if I know I need it again soon. But I will say, I backed into a spot just like this last Saturday because it’s easier for my son to carry his hockey bag in and he’s not going to ding it on cars in the parking lot.

I saw my hitch hanging over like that and immediately took it off though. Self awareness isn’t that hard.

I remove mine too.

By hitch do you mean a towbar eg the bit you hook the trailer, boat etc to? Ours a bolted to the chassis. How do you guys take it with you?

1

u/ContraTaskForce 1h ago

Mine saved me from a fender bender

1

u/baked_tea 1h ago

In my country it is illegal to drive around with it unless it is one piece with the construction and cannot be removed

u/ignorantspacemonkey 1h ago

It will transfer force from a rear accident into the cabin with the passengers. Trailer hitches are not crumple zones.

I drove a pickup for years, and left mine in most of the time. It's not difficult to park without putting half your bed and your hitch over the sidewalk, and having it in saved my truck from damage multiple times sitting at red lights and getting rolled into.

Same here. My truck is long enough as it is without jacking people’s shins and making it even harder to find a suitable parking space.

Where i live that fkr will be stolen before it's dark

One time my sgt in the military told me everyone can walk around it unironically
