I drive a big truck. You know where my hitch stays when not in use? The fucking cab. I've never understood why people leave them on their trucks. It's not convenient to leave it on because it makes it harder to back up without hitting something.

As a former mechanic in the rust belt, I hated the fuckers who left them in. Why? I’m the one who had to remove the drawbar once rusted solid to the hitch.

To be fair, my hitch saved my truck from damage three times after being hit by people not paying attention. Cheapest insurance I’ve ever bought

It’s give and take on that one tho. Yes, it’ll stop very minor damage but it can also turn moderate damage into major damage

That’s fair, I was only ever at dead stops in parking garages and red lights, so it was all low speed collisions. Fortunate enough to never have experienced one at high speeds.

A truck bumper is really strong unless you have a wimpy truck

Or maybe the hitch caused someone to hit you because it was sticking out an extra foot.

I’d argue they should pay better attention then and not get that close to other cars. You don’t always have to be on someone bumper.

You shouldn't even be getting within a few feet of another car when driving lmao. You just go around tailgating everyone huh🤣

I don’t tailgate anyone. I keep a decent distance when I pull up behind someone that’s stopped. I was just saying that other people don’t and a hitch sticking out could be the difference between being hit or not.

But good job jumping to conclusions.
