Why don’t they take the ball hitch off? It just comes out with a cotter pin usually.

They get stolen often because of this. People use locks on them.

I have a lock on my anti-sway hitch because it is pretty expensive to replace.

But on run of the mill one that I have for towing smaller trailers, nah. If someone wants to steal it that badly, they can have it.

Cool I need one. Where do you park?

u/RickyRecon0030 4h ago

I wish I had money…

Go to work

1

u/RickyRecon0030 3h ago

In this economy?! Waste of time

Mine is a locking "dog bone" style. But I only have it mounted during the once a year or so when there's a trailer actually attached to my truck. The rest of the time it's under my back seat.

1

u/whapitah2021 3h ago

Is it secure under the seat? Can that bastard come screaming across the floorboard at your ankles in a wreck or panic stop?

1

u/OldSquid-71 3h ago

Yeah, the seat cushions lift up, and the bracket the rear seats latch into have a 360° walled frame. It ain't movin.

1

u/sillyvideogamestuff 2h ago

Easy when you only tow once a year... Move trailers every day and you'd stop taking it on and off.

12

u/Lowlife_4evr 4h ago

A real answer that's not just making fun of truck owners is tow hitches can get stuck really easily from rust.

13

u/Thomshan911 4h ago

Not if you take em out after every use. If you tow everyday, thats a valid excuse though.

1

u/MAJ0RMAJOR 4h ago

All of those trucks are too pretty for that

-4

u/Lowlife_4evr 4h ago

Why, because every truck has to be beat to shit?

0

u/MAJ0RMAJOR 4h ago

There’s a difference between beat to shit and unblemished. No truck that tows daily stays unblemished.

2

u/Lowlife_4evr 4h ago

That's disingenuous to say, I know plenty of people who work and tow with their trucks daily that look like they could be a normal daily.

Don't you know, every REAL truck driver needs to jackknife their trailer.

Bonus hills to walk up both ways if they refuse to change their tail lights after blowing them out with the trailer.

Reddit thinks if you have a truck you need to be off-road tearing it up in the mud everyday or you’re a poser lol

4

u/Youutternincompoop 3h ago

pickup trucks replacing cars as the main passenger vehicle has lead to thousands more unneccesary deaths(impacting especially young children) and that's before you consider the impact of greater pollution.

1

u/HealthyAtAnyFries 1h ago

People driving old cars without modern safety features cause way more.

3

u/Ryeballs 3h ago

Trucks are a tool, a vehicle to move stuff. If you don’t often use it to move stuff, you just have a tool that is inconvenient to everyone else around you.

2

u/sillyvideogamestuff 2h ago

Everyone who has a truck has constant requests to move things with it. Especially in cities where they're less common.

2

u/RyanSmokinBluntz420 3h ago

Yep and if you drive a tesla youre a nazi. And its so funny because before reeedit hated Elon, everyone was bragging about their clean EV and giving tesla owners Hella praise

2

u/Pitiful-Pension-6535 4h ago

Only if you leave them in

1

u/sleepytjme 1h ago

So rust means it is OK to park over the sidewalk and make a hazard and block half of it?

0

u/Lowlife_4evr 1h ago

No, I never said that it was. That’s them being assholes. Rust is a legitimate reason for hitches in trucks while not being used.

1

u/LoadCan 3h ago

They don't corrode in place of you take them out when you're not using them.

I love it when dummies tell on themselves.

0

u/bibimstop 1h ago

Because they never take them off...

14

u/GeorgeWashington1904 4h ago

Because maybe 6 months from now they might tow something. Although they haven't towed a single thing in the several years - it could happen any day now!

1

u/dpenton 3h ago

Several years? I bet those hitches have never had a trailer on it.

But you know…those hitch balls have flared ends…

2

u/pimpbot666 4h ago

Because they think that causing extra damage if somebody rear ends them is some sort of justice.

2

u/CHESTYUSMC 3h ago

It legitimately turns it from a bumper replacement to literally zero damage at low speeds… If they weren’t being idiot tail gaters it would be a non issue

1

u/Moistest_Fuckery 4h ago

Stops minor ones in from damaging your vehicle altogether. Pure joy when the person behind you is uninsured and has a hole in their radiator

1

u/sleepytjme 2h ago

So why back the bed over the sidewalk and a trailer hitch to block even more?

2

u/RyanSmokinBluntz420 3h ago

It is nice if you get rear ended. It just punches a huge hole in their radiator/bumper and then you have 0 damage. Its always fun to separate the two cars with the at fault party watching, it causes way more damage ripping it out.

0

u/sleepytjme 1h ago

Who is going to rear end them from the sidewalk? All the elderly in electric wheelchairs or the mom’s with strollers on the sidewalk?

1

u/BabyJuggernaut3545 3h ago

In my state it makes the truck owner partly responsible when no trailer is hooked up.

1

u/Hopsblues 3h ago

Surprised they don't get stolen. I had one stolen on a vacation.

1

u/Turbulent_Abies_5483 2h ago

Because apparently taking out one cotter pin is too much work for some people. That hitch is basically a shin-seeking missile waiting for its moment.

-1

u/Remarkable_Ship_4673 4h ago

Because their small D doesn't let them do it

1

u/Icy_Cat1350 3h ago

F***ing lazy. Simple. Don't care about other people. Too much effort required.

1

u/notjustinu 3h ago

Most hitched go in and don’t want to come out without a lot of effort. It’s less work for you to look where you’re going and not run into my stuff.

1

u/Fly_throwaway37 3h ago

Cuz I've been rearended before w no damage to my truck. People who hit me did lose their front grills though.

1

u/OpenAd3036 4h ago

Cause they are status signalling. It lets everyone know they have a micro penis but they're not like one of those trashy guys with truck nuts. They're refined, classy micro penis guys that haul fat loads

0

u/henry2630 3h ago

i don’t wanna take it on and off everyday

0

u/silentwind262 4h ago

Because fuck pedestrians apparently

-1

u/Acid3300 4h ago

As a truck owner, who does this granted I stopped backing up when I get to the curb that way my hitch doesn’t hang onto the sidewalk. it’s because it does actually provide some accident protection from really low speed rearend collisions

-1

u/GreatKingCodyGaming 4h ago

For me it's because I live in a farm and use mine. Also, my dad has been rear ended a number of times and his unit of a drop hitch prevented any damage to his truck. Just people on small one lane roads texting and driving every single time.

2

u/nwprogressivefans 4h ago

but the only reason to leave it on all the time is if you literally use it every single day

1

u/GreatKingCodyGaming 3h ago

I mean in all fairness I also don't take my truck anywhere in town, that's what we have my wife's car for. So my hitch staying on isn't ever a problem.
