No consideration for the handicapped or elderly

521

u/RupertTheReign 5h ago

Or parents with strollers or just people in general.

u/Li_liminal_spaces 4h ago

Pedestrians are second class citizens, why didn't you just get in your Canyonero and drive two feet.

61

u/A_Furious_Mind 3h ago

Bike lanes are DEI now. They will come for other forms of human ambulation soon.

35

u/Vitese 3h ago

America is completely unwalkable already. It is crazy almost everybody basically has to have a car and drive to get groceries. Totally by design. European countries arent designed so that literally everyone has to have a car to do anything.

6

u/Sullyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy 2h ago

Don’t forget Canada

5

u/RupertTheReign 2h ago

Sadly, very much correct.

2

u/bscheck1968 1h ago

Even to the point that once you get out of your vehicle in a parking lot, there is no safe pathway and you are fair game.

•

u/FrozeItOff 3m ago

To be fair, most of those cities developed long before anything other than walking was an option. The oldest parts of America's first cities were/are similar.

Cars made Suburbs feasible, and Suburbs made cars necessary.

12

u/RupertTheReign 2h ago

It's insane how much of a culture war flashpoint bike lanes have become!!

6

u/HighlyOffensive10 1h ago

I know a couple cyclist that buy into the conservative side of that argument. Guess who also bitches constantly about almost being hit.

4

u/RupertTheReign 1h ago

And about how much traffic there is...

2

u/-Any-Mail-4-Me- 1h ago

These bikes are really starting to grind my gears.

1

u/bscheck1968 1h ago

Walking is so gay (sarcasm)

3

u/cereal7802 2h ago

Pedestrians are second class citizens

not much better if they park the other way around. leaving the hitch on and having it stick out in a parking lot where it is often hard to see it sticking out is a dick move in general.

1

u/red__dragon 1h ago

It's a bigger dick move to keep the hitch on when you're not hauling anything.

Canyonero reference for the win!

Or dogs on Sniffari with their nose to the ground

on sniffari 😂

5

u/RupertTheReign 2h ago

Sniffari... Brilliant. Thank you.

Or trailers that want to work after I stomp on these hitches

118

u/stredman 4h ago

Takes 30 seconds or less for the owner to pull the pin and toss the hitch in the bed of the truck. Costs nothing. Means everything.

20

u/xDragonetti Prisencolinensinainciusol is my jam 3h ago

Tbf if you just toss the hitch in the truck bed it will get stolen. Just put them under the seat until you need to actually use them. 🫡

10

u/Techi-C 3h ago

It’s important to secure it somewhere, though, so it doesn’t become a heavy projectile in an accident

7

u/Qrahe 1h ago

Tbf, people parking like this is why I have a hitch collection.

11

u/Juanzilla17 3h ago

If the vehicle is locked, leaving it in a safe spot like the roof is an alternative. Please be considerate of short truck owners as they might not be able to reach it.

3

u/taliesin-ds 2h ago

or just put it inside the car, through the window XD

1

u/eucldian 1h ago

But couldn't someone just pull the pin and steal it anyways?

•

u/NeverTooDressy 2m ago

which would be.... never. you know none of those guys are actually towing anything.

13

u/Dead_Redux 4h ago

Be the change you want 😁

34

u/geoffpz1 4h ago

Well, I bet they are not locked. Just sayin...

10

u/OkSample7 4h ago

Those adjustable types are pretty expensive as well.

3

u/Boxadorables 3h ago

I can see a pin lock on the grey f1-shitty

•

u/wafflesareforever Nemesis of AutoModerator 58m ago

I used to deal with this idiocy in my downtown neighborhood back in the day, walking my dog. If it was particularly egregious and repetitive, I'd hang my dog shit bag on their hitch. I don't know if it's ethical or whatever. It just felt like the right thing to do.

24

u/aftonroe 4h ago

Exactly. I tow a travel trailer for camping in the summer. The first thing I do once the trailer is detached and setup is take the hitch off the truck. Literally less than 30 seconds of effort.

9

u/geoffpz1 3h ago

I move a boat around most weekends. I admit I do forget if I run home or something, bit I drive a jeep and never park like that. It is always off by the time I get home as I cannot close the garage. These guys are simply inconsiderate idiots.

13

u/Bladathehunter 4h ago

Takes that long for me to do it too. Maybe a bit longer after I recover from busting my shin on it.

11

u/No-culture5942 4h ago

You're giving me bad ideas

7

u/IngsocInnerParty 3h ago

I really don’t understand why it’s not a road regulation. It should only be in there if you’re pulling a trailer.

11

u/notAcomic303 2h ago

My step dad used to keep his on "in case he got rear ended" lol

2

u/wetwater 2h ago

An acquaintance does the same thing.

1

u/GolfsHard 1h ago

It worked out for me when I was driving our companies work truck. Hitch took the impact and nothing else.

1

u/Veganpotter2 2h ago

These guys don't own trucks because they're thinking about others.

1

u/Waallenz 1h ago

In the rust belt, where it live, if you dont pull them before the snow/salt hits youre never getting them back out either

1

u/anythingelse1113 1h ago

Could this theoretically be done by someone who doesn't own the truck. Asking for a friend.

•

u/JungyBrungy 57m ago

Aren’t these hitches pretty expensive ? I don’t have one yet but if I did I would imagine they can get stolen pretty quick when not hooked up to something

0

u/KillerDonuts27 2h ago

I don't park over sidewalks, but I leave mine attached and locked at all times. No problem with it at all.

28

u/Harey-89 5h ago

Soon to be handicapped if you walked by those trucks.

9

u/OmarsBulge 3h ago

Or people with shins.

15

u/Ok-Adeptness9933 5h ago

Right. Look at Mr money bags over here with working shins.

13

u/Depressed_Cat_00 5h ago

Yeah, they considered leaving half the sidewalk to struggle with.

16

u/Turnip-Toffee 3h ago

and you bet they're all smugly thinking how considerate they are to pull back as far as they could so they're not blocking the road.

5

u/MiddlesKeypad 3h ago

Especially anyone using a wheelchair, there's barely enough room to walk past those trucks.

12

u/Downtown_Ganache6727 4h ago

I love pushing my wheelchair-bound grandmother in the street because the sidewalk is unusable due to truck hitches

2

u/subpoenaThis 3h ago

Or any other car on the road. The turn a fender bender into a new radiator, ac condenser, bumper, covers. Bumpers aren't meat to withstand all the force on a 3 inch wide patch.

1

u/RobStoration 4h ago

Elderly get free hitches!

1

u/cjandstuff 2h ago

Personal experience with dozens of people who drive these big trucks, they don’t give a rat’s ass about anyone other than themselves and maybe some close family members. You don’t matter to them.

1

u/Puzzleheaded-Flow724 2h ago

If they had consideration for others, especially vulnerable road users, they wouldn't be driving these death machines.

1

u/meowmeowcomputation 1h ago

I don’t run across too many considerate pickups on the road; I don’t think they would have any for when they are parked

1

u/MissBlackLace 1h ago

or someone with a stroller

1

u/t6ix58 1h ago

I bet all 3 of those trucks have handicapped parking placards.

1

u/PrivilegeCheckmate 1h ago

Or Peter Griffin.

1

u/PancakeFresh 1h ago

That’s the point. Drivers of large trucks enjoy when others suffer due to the size of their vehicle. There’s also a lot of social pressure on American males to drive a truck. They will pay 3 times the cost of a regular car to be seen driving one of these. Driving a practical car is embarrassing in much of the country.

1

u/Ilikehowtovideos 1h ago

Backing in may actually be more considerate if this is a small parking lot and their tail ends would stick into the driving lane

•

u/LambLifeform 48m ago

It's okay, according to Sam Hyde we won't have Elderly soon.

1

u/7485730086 3h ago

No consideration

Fixed that for you.

-7

u/Lazy-Zucchini6757 5h ago

To be fair the reason they park like this is out of consideration for other drivers having more room to maneuver in the parking lot. So even if it’s a bad idea it’s not a totally inconsiderate gesture.

I drive a pickup and have to pull a similar maneuver all the time but I don’t block sidewalks unless I’m at the last stall in the lot and the sidewalk terminates at my parking space. But I’ll hang my bumper over landscaping and stuff all the time so I’m not crowding the lot.

I’d assume the restaurant has handicap parking stalls as well.

36

u/BlG_O 4h ago

At the same time, if you not towing. Take the hitch off

-12

u/Lazy-Zucchini6757 4h ago

Or just be smart about how you park. I’m not trying to get my hands all greasy and have a hitch constantly sliding around in the bed because it’s a pet peeve for people on reddit.

13

u/fancyinmypantsy 4h ago

It’s not a pet peeve lol. It’s a shitty selfish thing to do that impositions everyone else.

5

u/[deleted] 4h ago

[deleted]

-3

u/Lazy-Zucchini6757 3h ago

Yeah again, I’m perfectly capable of keeping a hitch on and not inconveniencing people. Plus it’s saved my bumper from fender benders twice so… not gonna change that habit.

1

u/[deleted] 2h ago

[deleted]

0

u/Lazy-Zucchini6757 2h ago

Which ones? The ones where I described how I park considerately?

1

u/[deleted] 2h ago

[deleted]

0

u/Lazy-Zucchini6757 2h ago

The one where I described driving with a hitch on my pickup… So somebody says that they keep their hitch on their pickup and make a concentrated effort not to inconvenience others with their parking and you think, “huh, must be a shitty person?”

FYI I often park at the back of lots or several blocks further than the first available space for these same reasons. And I make a huge effort not to keep heavy items like trailer hitches loose in the bed of my pickup because I’ve seen the damage they can cause in an accident.

That seems considerate to me, but it’s certainly not as fun to rage about on Reddit.

9

u/DubeFloober 4h ago

It’s a dick move universally. Reddit is just where you are currently hearing about it, but I assure you the sentiment exists on the sidewalks all the same.

-2

u/Lazy-Zucchini6757 4h ago

Keeping your hitch on and parking considerately is not a dick move universally.

6

u/rufiojames 3h ago

You leave shopping carts in parking spots, dont you

2

u/Lazy-Zucchini6757 3h ago

Nope, because that’s a commonly observed courtesy.

-7

u/Drzerockis 4h ago

Great way to get your whole frame destroyed if you get rear ended.

4

u/mcnick12 4h ago

Crazy concept, but most cars don’t have hitches!

12

u/K_Knoodle13 4h ago

Not everyone who needs a clear sidewalk are going to use the handicap parking spots. It is an inconsiderate gesture when more care is taken for the parking lot than anyone who may need the sidewalk.

3

u/mapex_139 3h ago

they park like this is

They park like this because it's easier to pull straight out of a parking spot after drinking a few at the steak house. No one cares how you live your life.

1

u/Lazy-Zucchini6757 3h ago

Backing in is without a doubt the safer approach. Continuing to back your bumper beyond the spot is what makes more room for drivers in the lot. It’s a common and acceptable practice in the event that you’re backing over something like a landscaped lot median or lawn vs a walkway.

-12

u/Hot_Falcon8471 5h ago

Who the hell are the handicapped to tell me where I can and can’t put my trailer hitch!?
