I'm slightly vexed Cedar spin mop uses different non-standard threads on each product so you cant use a generic handle or interchangeably between their own products.

Threads are "close enough".

Line the hole with some paper towel and it will mostly hold just fine

Until it doesn’t on some stubborn gunk and the head flys off across the room

Use aluminum foil

With duct tape anything is universal.

Gorilla glue it

Looks like each of those is at least 20 years apart in design.

If this problem can stop you. You are the one they were after in those sales meetings that I find so ridiculous.

If you're an engineer, print a universal adapter

Who decides the “standard”?

Are you sure it’s not the other way around?

There is no such thing as standard threading on anything.

You’d think they could use a “standard” threading for their own products, not the entire mop and broom industry.

You left out a lot of key context there. A 3D printer easily fixes that issue as long as you:

  1. Have a 3D printer
  2. Are familiar and proficient with 3D modeling software
  3. Can measure and model something with specific tolerances
  4. Are familiar and proficient with getting a 3D model configured correctly in slicer software
  5. Understand what filament is appropriate to what use

If you’re incredibly lucky you can cut some of those steps out by either finding a free model someone else has made or you can pay someone, but in my experience the free models rarely work right out of the box and you’re right back to needing to be able to tweak models to match reality.

So sure. A 3D printer makes it super simple as long as you meet all of the costly and time consuming prerequisites!
