Wait that's an ADHD thing too? I have such a hard time getting my wife to eat leftovers and she swears it's because she forgets what is in the fridge, even if it's right in front of her. I can only assume it has to do with the food being mostly opaque containers now, but being an ADHD thing makes a lot more sense, and explains why she is better about it on the weekends (since her Vyvance only lasts about as long as her work day).

Damn, I'll try to be more sympathetic and be better about guiding her to food she needs to eat still.

It’s object impermanence. If you put it away, out of your sight, it stops existing. And/or leaving something out you use daily instead of putting it away takes away some mental energy. And/or you create reverse object impermanence with things that are out but not used because you can stop seeing it (though for me that creates its own background mental load).

Sending this to my husband- sincerely another almost 40 year old with ADHD and a frustrated spouse.

My husband has ADHD and I have mild OCD tendencies (not actual OCD but organizing stuff is calming to me). He'll set something down and literally forget 2 seconds later and we both have to go search for it.

Its "organized chaos". I like to nest too apparently. I have an ikea desk (the white Alexa one) but I'll forget what I have if its not on my end table in the living room apparently.
