I think the foreign victims of US imperialism are having a tougher time than those living in the US, but yes the majority of the domestic population is definitely getting squeezed harder every day

Wdym especially. Pretty sure people in Ukraine or Iran have it way harder than you.
21
u/CidAndroid 1d ago
For sure. I'm not from the us or those countries, so you're absolutely right that other people have it much harder.
35
u/Weak-Bus5585 1d ago
I hate this argument.
And people in Ukraine and Iran have it better than a child being trafficked in the depths of a mine somewhere.
Someone, somewhere, always has it worse than X.
Rant over.

even if i can magically take down the corrupt ones in my country. your politicians and companie′s CEO′s are gonna do anything to keep us even more miserable than their citizens so nothing threaten their interests and goals

It's like that one HydraulicBeanbag video: "Here's ten things my divorce taught me about resilience, hard-workship and upskilling! Sparkle emoji!"... Except there's no whimsy cone-headed guy, but rather someone believing that working harder when work conditions are deplorable at best and downright slave-like at worst is the right call.
Spoiler: No, no it isn't. 'Creating your own wins by working' is what brought the u.s. in the current conditions.

I wish it worked that way but politics comes for us all. So does greed.
Without protection from greed, we become it's victims.

Survivor bias and meritocracy- the idea that individual success is proof the system is equally open to everyone, versus the reality that personal effort interacts with vastly different starting points, luck, and systemic hurdles.

I’m from small country in Europe. Basically all of our economy is dependent on EU and USA. We have higher prices as Americans, we earn less then Western European and work as Asians.
This summer our ceo (mother company is in USA) made a deal with few customers and promised stuff. Long story short after clocking in nearly 500 hours of work in August and September, I made just enough to pay the bills and save 50€. Last night somebody drunk crashed into my car on electric scooter. Now I have to pay 400€ for repairs (have 700€ to my name) bcs some special part is overpriced due to main factory closing. They don’t have enough work bcs India and china have cheaper labour.
God I am tired.

You could stand to be a little more subtle. There's an art to this you have yet to master, and I wouldn't count the reactions from hardcore redditors as a win because they're easy to rile up.

11
u/Iokua113 1d ago
That'll be me in a couple weeks. I'm not American, but the morons who run the province just decided to try and seize the advantage of the disruption of the BC Conservatives to try and get more seats so they called an election two years early. They're considerably behind in multiple polls and the dislike for the party leader is quickly reaching toxic levels. The election is the day after my 41st birthday and it is going to ruin the lives of a lot of people.

Even though covid was ravaging the nation, I felt more hopeful about the future now that Biden was in charge.
Joe Biden may have been unfairly derided "Sleepy Joe" but it's because we ALSO were sleeping soundly night while Joe Biden & Kamala Harris guided & saved this nation through the darkest days of the pandemic, and saved the economy. Yes, the Economist mag dubbed the US "the ENVY of the World" under Biden.
A President Harris admin or even a Biden 2.0 admin would have a veritable Paradise, compared to the state of absolute nonsense we're seeing right now in the US.
We failed Biden and Harris by not giving them a RIGHTFULLY earned second term, and in doing so failed ourselves

Seriously. I got a promotion and an $18k raise a few months ago. It barely has made a difference in my life because everything is so expensive.

How much credit card debt
1
u/Brondoma 1d ago
Barely any. I have a car loan, rent, and a teenager though. Groceries and gas are ridiculous. I suppose if I chose to never leave home and eat Ramen every day then my salary increase might seem like more.

I was making $15k for the last decade and this year I broke $20k and might even get to 30. After being blindsided by life-changing medical events about six years ago, I'm finally managing my disabilities better and able to live independently. I have been doing the very definition of giving it my all to build myself up.
Anyway, my closest friend disappeared last year and I'm also transgender and living in the US, so fuck me I guess.

u/DrTommyNotMD 1d ago
I assume your disabilities are what keeps you from working full time? I can’t find a job that pays less than 35k (full time) in my area really.

It's not just the financial issues. Trying to get my social life back together but the extreme polarization of everything is isolating and depressing, and that doesn't seem to be getting better.

u/This_Fault_3345 1d ago
Might just be time to delete social media if you're letting the polarization slip into your social life

Same with Canada.
First the federal government.
Now my college, or more specifically, Student Affairs and my Indigenous Studies instructor.
Now I might not be able to qualify for student loans anymore because my instructor won’t provide a disability accommodation for the temporary cognitive impairment Student Affairs caused and I may have to withdraw.

Don’t know if you’ve noticed but prices are up everywhere because of the US. This is not mutually exclusive to people living in the US.
35
u/Say_Echelon 1d ago
I don’t understand why everyone’s gotta go around acting like others can just leave the country. Moving is expensive. Most other cultures won’t except you unless you speak the language first hand. Ain’t nobody got time to learn all that

Trump is not a pharaoh; when he eventually passes away, it's not like all of his corrupt, sycophantic toadies get buried with him.
