Distro News Atomic AlmaLinux moves to the latest bootc tooling

https://almalinux.org/blog/2026-10-13-atomic-bootc-modernization/

When we started the Atomic SIG last year, we built our images with the best tools available at the time. Since then, the bootc community has learned a lot from those tools and built better ones. This release moves us onto them, aligning with the rest of the bootc community. Most of that is plumbing you’ll never see, but some of it you will, like ISOs that boot into a live session, and ISOs for aarch64.

Could someone explain what bootc really is? Like, is it really "what atomic distros already do with ostree, but now with containers?" If it is, "i can declaratively define my own environment," then shouldn't support for that be added to ostree/rpm-ostree?

I know I sound like I'm arguing in bad faith, but I'm not. I genuinely don't get this and would love to hear what bootc solves, which plain old ostree doesn't.

Atomic AlmaLinux

Missed opportunity to call it Atomic Alma. Or even better, call it Atomic Llama.

What a strange comment.
