Development Flathub just reversed its AI-generated content ban, but developers still need to say they used it

I was not very familiar with their ban before but this seems like a damn given, no? Just like we bitch on posters here who vibecoded and claim as their own I would imagine you want same standard to apply to a Flathub deployed application, aka transparency.

Dumb question, but there are many contributions even to the linux kernel which are written by AI. Not vibe coded entirely, but assisted. I find it pretty hard to believe that user-level applications are not using AI in some way.

Where is the line and how do you determine if an app is well-written AI assisted code vs vibe coded and full of bugs?

At least for me, the most important thing is that each line is deliberate. It doesn't matter if the line was made keystroke-by-keystroke, or some IDE did an autocomplete for the function name, or an LLM wrote the line; but the person who "wrote" the code made a deliberate choice for that line of code. If the person writing the code understands each line and agrees with it, then in my point of view, it's not "AI Slop".

Right now, the issue with AI slop is that these "developers" don't read the code. They submit / upload the code asking for other humans to review it rather than themselves (because they don't know what they are doing). And when confronted why a specific function was written in a strange way, they respond back with the typical LLM "You are right..." without having putting their foot down on anything; because they don't know what they are doing.

People can agree or disagree how to get the job done; but at the end of the day, somebody has to make a deliberate choice. I made many mistakes over the years but at least I own up to my own bad choices. An AI slop developer does not do that.

I’m not asking about how to use AI. I mean how do you enforce it if you’re flathub. AI assisted software is already everywhere. At this point I don’t think AI in software is a problem inherently, but it’s the fact that AI makes bad software fast enough to overwhelm storefronts.
