No more katakana struggles
Hey guys! I’ve been learning Japanese for 20 years and wanted to share an amazing technique I invented called scaffolding!
When I first started trying to read Japanese, I had a really hard time reading katakana. So i started to just translate the katakana word into English and read it like that. It’s basically like having English subtitles built into my reading.
Its actually worked so well that I just never stopped doing it. I’ve been scaffolding for 20 years now, and it really takes the mental load off having to recognize Japanese katakana words.
I figured that eventually, with enough exposure, I’d just automatically learn the katakana words without actually reading them.
Maybe one day I’ll learn katakana, but honestly, this is super effective. I actually made an app for other katakana strugglers like myself where all the katakana words are translated into English for you so you don’t even have to do the mental work of reading them in the first place!
I have a question though, I’ve been using this method also in my speech. When I eventually go to Japan will natives understand me?
