Still need to weave in some ends and do some tidying up but it's pretty much done! Easily the biggest Kaffe Fassett project I've ever done. It's obscenely cozy. Knit using basically nothing but random donation bin yarns that I've collected, in the end I probably used at least 40 different colours, mostly in small amounts. Not sure what to knit next...

Finished Object Nocturnal Jumper Speedrun 🐈‍⬛🎃🖤

In September I took on the goal of knitting my first color work sweater in time to wear for the Halloween / fall season. Naturally I picked a pattern that calls for ladderback jacquard to manage float length - I’m nothing if not ambitious 😆 This is the Nocturnal Jumper by saskie&co in size 2 (I’m a 34” bust)

Well, it flew off the needles in a couple days shy of a month - my fastest knit to date! I have to say I’m really happy with how it came out considering it was my first foray into color work! I knit this in Knit Picks Wool of the Andes yarn (colors are white, persimmon heather and coal).

I made some mods including adding German short row shaping as many projects on Ravelry mentioned, and I think that made a huge difference in fit. I also added decreases in the body and I increased sleeve decrease interval to every 7 rounds once I hit the elbow.

The ladderback jacquard is an amazing technique and I’m so glad I learned it - I’ve already started applying it in my next projects! I also discovered that I really enjoy color work so I’m very excited to see how I improve over time!

Work in Progress Sun to Moon scarf - finished the Sun ☀️

Hey there! I’m mostly a lurker, but I wanted to share something I’m proud of. I’m done with the first panel of my double knitting scarf. I fell in love with this technique, especially the way the back looks. One of my friends said it looks like a cyanotype print, I like it even more now :-)

Combining knitting and drawing is scratching an itch I didn’t know I had. I keep tweaking the charts but I’m so looking forward to having the finished scarf in my hands. Having one with a sun on one end and a moon on the other is something I’ve been fantasising about for a long time. I’m finally making my dream scarf ❤️

Finished Object Two and a half years in the making, because for some reason I decided to use 2mm needles with DK yarn for a brioche stitch jumper

I started knitting this in April. Of 2024...

I designed it to copy my existing favourite jumper. The trouble is, that jumper was machine-knitted so the tension was insane. I used 2mm needles with DK yarn. It's also in brioche stitch so every row is worked twice. Also, I finished the entire body once through and then decided I was unhappy with the yoke shaping, so I unraveled it and then started from scratch in early 2025.

It's knitted seamlessly from the top-down with raglan sleeve shaping. The collar, cuffs, and hem are in half brioche stitch although the difference is barely discernible. For the collar I knitted twice the length, folded it over, and then knitted in the cast on stitches with the next row.

The yarn is Sylecraft Highland Heathers acrylic in Gorse (3743).

A month ago I posted about this beautiful, happy yarn that is now living it’s life as an oversized cowl. I honestly just needed to knit *something* with it, so not much thought was given to the project dimensions 😂 But I think it turned out very interesting!

It’s going to be a gift to a friend who was very excited by the colors as well. She can wear it as scarf, a sort-of-balaclava or just loose thing around the neck for extra coziness. I hope she likes it 😅

My first vest from a few years back. Designed by me. Turned out well. This was made from a bunch of those colorful hats from Nepal that you see all over the place, and our thrift store in particular. Once I had unraveled enough wool (took a couple of years) I went to work. This was also my first fully steeked project - made me realize that steeking was relatively easy and that I should knit in the round more often. This was a quick project, not more than 10 days - the 4mm needles helped out there.

Patty Lyons new book October 20th (I think). I’m so excited to learn even more from her. I can’t wait to make a mistake and learn how to fix it! Hopefully my frustration will be at an all time low lol. Anyone else pre-order or plan on getting this book?

That's the Ophelia top I've been working on during the last 3 months. It took me longer than I expected, mostly because I went so busy with life in the middle, moving to the other side of the country and starting work at a new place.

I would have like it a bit more fitted, but that's on me for working on hard mode with a very drapy tencel yarn that I never used before and slightly off gauge. The pattern is well written. At the end of the day, I really like the result anyways. Too bad fall is really starting to hit, but I'll have another nice top ready for next summer!

The pattern is Ophelia top, the yarn is Tencel from Umàlf.

Sigh. Share my pain?

I’m really proud of myself! I know it’s not perfect but it’s the first time I’ve ever made a hood of any kind. Up until now I’ve only ever done scarves. But I had an idea and just went for it!!!! Also my dog is 17.5 years old and I love her so much.

Finished Object Brook Trout sweater

Post image

I was inspired by all the Rainbow Trout colorways this year and decided to take it a bit further. Brook Trout are pretty common where I live out near the Sierra Nevada, and probably some of the prettiest local fish.

My first attempt at colorwork design. There are a few things I would do differently next time, but overall I am stoked with the final product. I am happy to share my notes if anyone is interested.

This picture is before blocking.

So I started knitting two weeks ago and just finished my first beanie. The tension is really wonky and I twisted my stitches for the first 4-5 rounds (and probably a few times after that too), but I'm still very proud of it 😭

I had so much fun knitting this sweater! It’s my second of (hopefully) four BSJs, all for babies due in December. My first time using a color-changing yarn. Such a clever design!!

Pattern: Baby Surprise Jacket by Elizabeth Zimmermann

Modification: followed pattern exactly (at 5 stitches per inch) except I skipped the “flap.” Instead I did the EZ’s sewn bind off on the two button hole edges. Using the live stitches at the hem, I continued in 1x1 ribbing for 10 rows. Cuffs I picked up and knit 6 rows of 1x1 ribbing. For the collar I followed directions in pattern.

Yarn: Knit Picks Chroma Worsted in color way “Best Friends” (with “Bare” as the cuffs, collar, and hem)

Work in Progress Cloud Sweater shoulder issue

Post image

Hello! I'm almost finished PetiteKnit's Cloud Sweater using Snefnug and Knitting for Olive silk mohair. There's this pulling at both sides of the back yoke. I've already soaked and dried it flat - though I didn't do any blocking with pins.

Anyone know what caused this and if it's possible to fix it?

Discussion Yarn buying confusion

I went to a big craft show at the weekend. It was an amazing experience but one part has left me confused.

There was a stall selling very pretty hand dyed skeins that I liked. There was basket filled with skeins beside a sign saying 100gms - £8.50. I thought it was a good deal and i liked the colours and texture so I picked one up. At the till the lady running the stall then weighed the skein and said it was almost £30. Confused i pointed the sign saying £8.50 and she said the skein weighed a lot more than 100g. Now in hindsight it was quite a big skein of yarn for 100g which I should have noticed but I've never heard or seen yarn being sold this way before.

Is this a common thing in the UK?

It really put me off buying from other indie stalls at the show in case they were doing it the same way and I'd have to put other yarns back when I couldn't afford them at the till. I'd be so embarrassed doing that all the time.
