Discussion Canadas Best Karate

First post, first question.

Is this normal for a membership fee for Karate????
Membership options

Option 1 Best:
$2999 down 1-time payment.
82500 Oct 15
Plus, a continual month to month payment of $100.
The monthly fee is guaranteed will to stay the same for as long as you are actively training. This fee can be canceled 30 days out. If students STOP, but returns within one year - they do not have to pay initial fee again - they simply restart the current BBC monthly fee.
Total investment for 2 years is: $5400. ($2700 per year)
Option 2 is the same as option 1. The difference: If the family cannot do the lumpsum - make 12 × 250
payments plus the monthly fee. Total initial fee $3000 = $250 for 12 months + $100 per month.
Total cost 2 years $5400. (2700 per year)
Option 3:
$500 initial + 24 payments of $199. Not month to month.
Total cost for 2 years is $5276 (2518 per year)
Why is option 1-2 better than 3? It is the best for you over the long term. Martial arts training: Is something that you can do year-round and for your whole life. It takes, on average 5 to 7 years to get earn your first probationary Black Belt. Most dedicated students are training for more than 10 years.
Here is a break down over 5 years of training:

Option 1 $8999
Option 3 $13190

All programs do not include 5% gst. Program includes 1 new uniform blue uniform, 1 set of sparring gear.
Extra cost:
Orange to Brown belt test fee. • Black Belt test fee
Outside events EG tournaments, seminars. Camps
There is no refunds.

This is madness. My main teacher is the kind of guy they make videos about and that gets flown around the country to do expensive workshops. His dojo is $90 a month. Maybe $130 x Dan level for dan testing, no fee for kyu.

I'm in Toronto. I pay $75 a month for two classe a week, 1.5-2 hours each, adult classes.

My sensei has a day job, and teaches mostly for the love of karate, so he doesnt run the class like a business he has to live off of, but still. Those prices are crazy.

Theres lots of options that are closer to what I pay, are still great, and successfully support someone's livelihood. The numbers you're listing feel insane.

I would avoid this place.

Sorry, where is this? I've done martial arts for years and never seen this structure and expense. You can definitely get quality Karate without paying that much. Definitely not normal structure and/or cost.

Thanks for the feedback. Yah it doesn’t feel quite right. They also dont give pricing until the kids get their blue gee, and once they’re hooked then the prices are shown. Canada’s best Karate in Sooke BC.

Yo, that's crazy. The fact that they won't give you the pricing until kids get their gi asinine. That makes it feel like scam. In my experience the better places are more upfront with their pricing, will allow a trial class/classes and will not force you to get a gi first before finding out prices. My current Kyokushin dojo, gave me a free trial, charges $15 a drop in class or $255 for 3 months (2 classes a week). He gave us up front pricing in a Dogi(uniform) which we didnt have to pay until he handed it to us. Other fees were for tests is we pay for the Belt and optional Japanese certificate, and one time registration (japanese passport and IKO membership card) which was like $50. Even when I practiced Kung Fu, that place allowed me for a 1 week trial class, charged me $1300 for a year for unlimited and all classes(Wing Chun, Wushu, Sanda), included uniform, and testing/belts.

Ok. My gut is right. The time for us to decide is fast approaching, so far it’s been monthly fees only but now we have to decide or maybe switch Dojo

Shop around before you commit. I am sure you can find a bunch around your area. Assuming its the place in the GTA. My dojo is in Scarborough you can DM me if you would like but, there are definitely good places around the GTA.

What? I will never go and sign a contract with a school no matter how inexpensive the monthly cost really is. How do you trust they won’t go bankrupt? Or if you cancel midway, what is your punishment.
