Seidokaikan Karate

How popular is this style? Always wanted to learn it, apparently it's a form of kyokushin karate that's built for "competing in the ring" and eventually it morphed into K-1 Kickboxing

Good that you're specific, lol. There are several schools called Seido. I don't think it's a terribly popular style (relatively speaking) but if you have access to it, I would try it out. I'd definitely categorize it as a "kakuto" karate.

We trained with a few Seido guys in Kyokyshin. Where I was located, the local branch of World Seido was like a more accessible version of Kyokushin, keeping some of the heavy contact elements but more friendly to all ages and ability levels.

Other schools emphasize the grappling and gloved/face punch competition rules more. Having moved to "all-round fighting" rules training for awhile myself, I really like those elements of it, especially since a lot of Kyokushin has been distilled into one part demonstration and two parts knockdown rules training. Which is great and all, but can be a little less than three dimensional to me.
