I’ve been here since the iPhone 4 and GeoHot days, but I think I’m finally calling it, I am finally updating my iPhone 15 Plus.

I’ve kept my 15 Plus on iOS 17.2, the firmware it came with over two years ago, holding out. But with more and more apps requiring newer iOS versions, I keep asking myself what I’m actually waiting for—especially when I’m not even taking advantage of the jailbreak options available.

I still have an 8 Plus running unc0ver, but I barely use it anymore. It just doesn’t feel like it used to. I miss when jailbreaking was one of the most exciting parts of owning an iPhone.

Honestly, I don’t even know why I’m posting this. After all these years, hitting update feels like closing a chapter.
End of the ride for me, but what a ride it’s been.

My 15 Pro on 17.0 is gonna be the end of the line for my jailbreak days.

With jailbreak detections getting better, losing app support and not wanting to give Vibecoded Tweaks access to the system level of my phone.

I'm done, Once I have my Duo. My 15 Pro will live as a display piece to the End of an Era that started with me using redsn0w lite on an iPod Touch 2G back on iPhoneOS 2.2.1

not trying to be rude here, just genuinely asking, but what is the point of buying apple products just to jailbreak them when you could just get an android phone that does the same thing? I am not at all involved in the scene and just get this subreddit recommended every once in a while.

Usually being locked to the Apple ecosystem already, unable to transfer paid-for apps/subscriptions/etc. As well as familiarity with the operating system. Most tweaks don't entirely change the OS, just add extra functions to it, aside from themes which are mostly only cosmetic or pair with tweaks then enable the extended theming stuff. So it's still what you're used to, but ever so slightly better in your own way (then the 'slightly' part builds up until you're seemingly rocking your own entire OS)

Ninety-percent of apps don't work on iOS 15.1.1? Not here they don't. LOL.

Yeah, a lot of banking apps don't, but many prefer to do that on a computer. Newer versions of apps may not work, but 3DAppVersionSpoofer to the rescue unless the server side is checking. And if one just has to be connected to social media constantly or watching youtube all the time there might be some issues, but also workarounds for those too. Even WebKit—the weakest link in running an older iOS—can be dealt with by using Pollyfills and Reynard browser, for examples. It's not all that bleak on iOS 15x.

3DAVS only goes so far. No it doesn't work for alot of apps. Especially any mainstream apps. Not only mainstream apps but work related apps too. Even food apps.

Not even Mcdonalds functioning anymore. No matter how many loopholes i jumped through to make it work. It's officially done. (BK, popeyes,KFC,wingstop, Uber,....etc)

Yeah bank apps are cooked.

Pollyfills is a failed experiment that doesnt get any support

Reynard browser is the ONLY app to rely on to get access to websites...which is fine but then it's buggy, getting slower the more updates released for it and sometimes theres issues with websites still not being able to load(rare but happens)

Again, i asked....WHATS THE BENEFITS? The only tweak that does anything different from new OS and even Android is SNAPPER 1-3 popout or PDAnet unlimited hotspot tweak that stopped working forever ago. I've ran through several tweaks over the years and most of them are intergrated in new OS as far as customization goes. Nothing innovative has been released for YEARS.

Can barely get adblockers anymore(MY MAIN REASON to JB over 15 years now)

++Theres no work arounds for youtube bugs anymore such as seeing replies, no more spotify modding on lower firmware because you cannot log in anymore but social media apps are still...hanging on. You could just get all these modded apps on new OS with sideloading.

Have you tried “McdonaldsFix” it’s worked (is working) great for me but I’m on 16.2. Not sure how low it supports.

I agree on 3DAVS. I don’t think I’ve ever actually had it work an an app I’ve wanted/tried to use it on (I haven’t tried tons tho tbf)

I'm gonna check that tweak out. I used a 26.34.0 specifically because thats the last firmware that even allows the app to open but it was super buggy. Now the same firmware doesn't allow me to log into my account. I've trialed and error for past 2 weeks.

We are obviously in different situations/needs/wants/uses with our iPhones. Most of my apps work, most of yours don't. When you ask "WHATS[sic] THE BENEFITS?", I respond with "I like my XR jailbroken, and it works well enough for me." Besides, I inherited it from a friend who passed away after iOS 16 was unsigned, so there's that. Cheers.

ah mate ... that combo is right now almost the most powerful combination (second only to 15 pro max in the 17.x range) ...

I think I am on the other end of the spectrum, everyday I use my daily driver .. I wonder what would I do without a JB ...

I have got phones on iOS 18, iOS 27 but just the sheer audacity to dictate what I can do with my phone .... just can't do it ... my daily driver right now is 14 pro max ( I think the same processor as the 15 plus) and I love using it and being able to mold it the way I see fit .. every single day

Of course to each their own, especially now with iOS 27 which is quite performant (on my se3 so will be even better on yours).

Years down the line ... when we have a JB for iOS 27 you'll be the one laughing :)

In what way do you use your jailbreak? I haven’t jailbroken anything in like 10 years but I know a lot of the old jailbreak tweaks eventually became features. I do still like the idea of it though.

Lowkey on the same trajectory. I'm using an iPhone 15 Pro on iOS 17.0.3. Despite there being a jailbreak, I haven't bothered yet. Lately I've been wanting to upgrade to the iPhone 18 Pro, but I also realize that I kind of want to go to iOS 26 or 27 willingly. If I'm not jailbreaking after waiting so long, then what's the point?

The iphone 18 was really tempting. When the 16 came out I felt there wasn’t enough of a difference to justify upgrading. With the anniversary coming next year I’m interested to see what they have planned. Might upgrade then.

You can literally just get another iPhone and use it as your main daily driver. That way it stays updated and you never have to miss out. It’s 2026 and apple has pretty much caught up. What tweak do you really need on your phone keeping you from updating? Just keep the one you have to mess around with and get another phone for daily use

My strategy from now on will be to have 3 iPhones. 1 jailbroken and 2 spare ones 2-3 firmwares ahead of the jailbroken one. That way when I version becomes jailbroken I have a compatible device and will upgrade the jailbroken phone to the latest firmware.

I have the 13PM on 15.1.1. Ordered the 18PM yesterday and will buy next year’s too. Expensive strategy but I can afford this and willing to go the dark path to keep my phone however the hell I want.

Ill never understand this EVER, even when i was on iOS 14 as my daily all my apps worked or i made them work with bridging tweaks. Im on 16.3 and i dont have an issue with ANY app. iv made all of them work perfectly. Jailbreaking is not for everyone.

I’m on 16.2. A lot of food apps don’t work but I can just use website for 95% of those. (Dunkin doesn’t do ordering in their website so that’s one I can’t do)

I also can’t use a couple of my banking apps (discover/PNC), but again the websites for those work for me so I’m chillin.

I have been considering upgrading but I’ll probably hold onto this phone instead of trading in. I wanna get my hands on a fold to decide if I want that or the 18 pro but my idea is to grab whichever and then just let it sit on stock iOS and pray one day it gets jailbroken. I think a jailbroken fold would be amazing (if it got enough support) but I’m also worried that they won’t be as common among devs and either 1. an entire jailbreak could come for 18pro but not the fold or 2. Most tweaks would be broken/unsupported if it did get jailbreak.

Im not sure what you mean? Maybe my comment was not clear enough about making them work. If an app doesnt work for me and iv tried all the standard methods like editing info.plist. Ill decrypt the app on iOS16 then ill decrypt it on my ioOS 18. Then ill make a tweak to bridge gaps and make it work. Nothing will push me to do anything because i make them work. Thats what jailbreaking is all about for me. Modifying and making things work or having the freedom too.

I have done this on pretty much 50-60 percent of my apps on my iOS 14 device and iv done it with 2-3 apps on my iOS 16 device. You can find some of these tweaks on my public repo https://github.com/551UK?tab=repositories

Thanks for the explanation but it doesn’t take anything away from what I said. I have done similar projects on PC (building specialised ffmpeg binaries that runs on older windows versions by modifying code paths that depends on newer WinAPI) so I know exactly the type of effort required.

So let me be more specific: not everyone is lucky enough to have sufficient material means, technical skill and spare time to fix app compatibility. If OP is not even considering a second phone then I highly doubt they are willing learn an entire workflow across multiple devices to just for a chance to make one app working again. If this is the requirement to use jailbreak then the community would not exist.

As my 14 year old perspective... don't update it please. I have an 11 Pro Max, iOS 17.3 amd i have wanted to update id since ios 27 beta 1 but i said no. There are only disadvantages. Trust me, keep the version and feel happy and free to have the jailbreak sensation... it won't be here for long anyway but it was gone too.... feel free :)

I purchased the first plus model, the 6 plus as well as the 8 plus and of course the 15 plus. l was really disappointed when they killed the plus. I don’t want the Air. I will end up getting a pro max when I get my next iPhone.

Same thing for me. Actually, the last time I’ve jailbroken was in 2022 probably.

It’s just not the same anymore. There were really good reasons to jailbreak back in 2012 or 2015, but nowadays my iPhone has every feature I need, so why jeopardize my iPhone’s security to wait on something that I don’t even need anymore?

Man, I miss the Cydia days when we used to jailbreak our iPhone 4’s and save SHSH blobs and all that stuff..

Have you lost your mind? After years you’re just going to update?, why not just get a new iPhone and keep the 15 as backup? Not to mention IOS 17 still has many APPS supported, I hardly ever run into compatibility issues, not to mention there should be work arounds, the 15 on iOS 17 is considered rare especially PM setup, I have the 15PM and I’m never updating this thing, it’s amazing jailbroken and I waited years lol, I’ll be getting the iPhone duo when I’m ready for a newer IOS while keeping my JB 15PM still,

Well it’s clear that any benefit OP derives from jailbreak is not enough to offset the uncertainty nor the cost of getting another phone.

I’ve recently sold off my older phone collection that I’ve built up from before 2000 after realising that I just don’t have the time or energy to fiddle with them anymore. Might as well give them to someone else who can get more fun out of them. Still holding onto the device in my flair but don’t know for how long.
