Support randomly had photos disappear?

hey guys, don’t know if anyone else has had this issue but i had some photos in my hidden folder and they’ve randomly disappeared, they’re not unhidden, they’re not in recently deleted and not on my iCloud. i’ve been trying to get help off of apple support but we keep going through the motions with the same solutions that never work out and then i get disconnected or they suggest i call the number instead. was wondering if anyone had had any similar issues and what they did to remedy them? i was wondering if reverting back to an older backup would work, pls let me know, thanks.

Nope. Never had that happen. You deleted them by mistake.

My husband had several hundred photos disappear. Apple’s solution, after checking settings on his iPad, checking hidden shared, deleted etc, was to update from iOS 18 to 27. He did and pictures are still gone. He began saving photos again and those are now gone. He didn’t hide, share, nor delete them. Even signed into iCloud.com and that was a fool’s errand. Now we have no confidence in how safe iCloud is. Yes,we back up to an external drive, but it’s not convenient to browse photos or show someone photos when that drive is at home.
