I love it when they think they have the best part and ran away...especially when they are chased🤣🤣

u/throwawaybyefelicia 16h ago
LMAO same I used to have chickens in my childhood and they would always run so fast with whatever larger morsel they could get their beaks on 😂

They are so intelligent.
I had two chickens.
I once approached them with 2 boiled potatoes and one rushed towards me.
She looked behind her and saw that the other one hadn't noticed me yet.She then grabbed the smaller potato, ran towards her sister and 'accidentally' dropped it.
The other one immediately grabbed it and ran away with it.Then the first chicken returned to me and took the larger potato.

What really happened: chicken thought “BAKAWK”, grabbed food, dropped food, other chicken snatched it, then found the other food

u/p8nt_junkie 15h ago
She runs away to her spot, drops her prize, gets ready to inhale it, suddenly looks back at the tower and decides her prize is not enough, leaves it, runs back to the tower for a better morsel.
Hens are crazy and cute. We had a girl wake up dead the other day, so our flock shrank a little (sad face)

u/CrippledCricketer 14h ago
I don't think she woke up :( I'm sorry though, I know the pain, I've lost 2 chickens to foxes this year

Why do I have the feeling there’s a completely automated machine to do this, that is expensive to buy and maintain and does worse job then this shawarma stick.

u/KinTharEl 13h ago
Probably has an app too, that tracks everything but needs you to make an account with them, and stops working when there's a service outage.

Yea you gotta split open the cucumbers or they dont recognize them as food. Chickens are great, but not the sharpest

u/maxis2bored 14h ago
Just don't let the chickens find out how tasty chickens are.

u/toxicdevil 12h ago
I’ve seen them partially eat young chicks. If one of them gets injured then the rest of them will peck it to death (might be compulsive). Really vicious creatures honestly, they eat everything.
9
u/maxis2bored 12h ago
If one gets sick they will bully it. Then when they realize it's tasty they will eat each other. Absolute monsters

•
u/Cambren1 6h ago
True, if you bury a dead one and don’t cover the grave, they will dig it up and eat it.

Had no idea chickens ate…cabbage?
I thought they ate bugs and grains.
•
u/con098 5h ago
They’d eat anything. They’d eat their fellow chickens if they could. When my cats goes out to poo in the yard, the chickens would gather around. Then they’d peck at the diarrhea as it’s coming out
•
•
u/Beniidel0 2h ago
They do eat their own kind. My school had a chicken farm on the premises and if you dropped an egg they'd rush and eat it and a few times we came in the morning to find one of the old ones dead and being eaten

Had no idea chickens ate…cabbage?
We fed our chickens red and purple cabbage when I was growing up. It turned the egg yolks a bright orange.

Spent the first half wondering how they’d eat the rest then went….oh clever.

Can you elaborate please? Is the vegetable in the video not good for chickens or something?

u/xUnknown_Kyle 14h ago
They mean they should've quickly understood how they'd reach the rest at the top.

Thank you for writing, Concerned. Of course your question touches on one of the basic biological impulses, with all its associated hopes and fears for the future of the species. I also detect some unspoken questions. Do our benefactors really know what's best for us? What gives them the right to make this kind of decision for mankind? Will they ever deactivate the suppression field and let us breed again? Allow me to address the anxieties underlying your concerns, rather than try to answer every possible question you might have left unvoiced.

I'm so grateful for your continued efforts to reach out and connect to the community. It's a rare beacon of solace. Sacred Gentle Leamuel knows I need it. Sometimes I feel so insecure when I'm struggling through the crowd to peck at the flesh of a colleague impaled on the shawarma. I find myself unintentionally analysing my furtively glimpsed memories of their genuflections and asking myself if my engraved stonework ablations are any less meticulous or devout than theirs. And then I'm consumed with fear that I incur the Eye of Profanity through my indulgent overlooking and overthinking! I don't know how to quell this Circle of Transgression. Do the Hallowed Cartwrights of the Ascended read it in my signs? Should even that query itself be banished from mentality?

Good fertilizer.
EDIT: ...and when it cakes up. Use it for.... fertilizer.

u/CrippledCricketer 14h ago
Most likely will be liquid to start with, you just have to hope it lands in a useful spot

u/Ok-Background-502 13h ago
This is what people do, they rotate plots of land between planting produce and planting veg shawarma
3
u/CrippledCricketer 13h ago
Sure do! I keep chickens also. I essentially strip graze them throughout the year

What if some veggies get stuck on the rod high enough for the chicken to not being able to reach it?

u/Humble-Page-4845 10h ago
I’m pretty sure that lady has the power to walk back over and push it down if it comes to that

u/mwilkens 12h ago
The chickens begin a stacking formation until they're tall enough to reach it and manually lower it down.

Those all black chickens are not tasty. Gamey AF.

u/chefbobbyjay 16h ago edited 15h ago
Can I get a source saying feather color affects flavor? Games flavor comes from diet not appearance.
Edit: yall these are not silkies. Or cemanis. If they were they also wouldn’t be running around with other breeds. They wouldn’t have dark skin or dark meat. These are regular leghorns or welsummers. Hard to tell when they’re all moving around what exact breed tho.
2
u/Kitfishto 16h ago
Typically you are correct but some breeds of chickens are fully melanated. The ones whose crops and eyes are fully back are most likely melanated chickens. The meat itself is black all the way through not just the feathers. I have never eaten one and I don’t think I ever would. They’re specifically bred because they are beautiful and are mostly purchased as pets. If this guy has eaten a melanated chicken I think they might just be dumb. If they ate a chicken that has white meat and just black feathers and thought it was different because of the feather color he is confirmed dumb.

u/Pieniek23 15h ago
Yeah, people just don't know hence the down votes on my comment. I tried them once and eating black breasts just isn't for me. The taste is foul (pun intended).
-1
u/chefbobbyjay 16h ago edited 15h ago
Yea but these aren’t silkes. And fully melanted chickens are called cemanis or something and they’re a niche breed. These aren’t those.
1
u/Kitfishto 15h ago edited 15h ago
Not all melanated chickens are silkies…
There are at least 5 breeds of chicken with fibromelanosis..
Edit: nice edit dipshit.

u/chefbobbyjay 15h ago

You’re an idiot.. Swedish black, kadakanath, and the ones most likely present in this video the Ayam Cemani.

u/cosmicoconuts 16h ago
He’s right, it’s not just the feathers that are black, skin, beak and sometimes even internal organs and bones are all black/darkened. They taste different than normal chicken. More umami and gamey

1
u/ResurrectedBrain 16h ago
There’s also different kinds of chickens. Some are bred to be egg laying. You don’t normally eat those. Other chickens are meant specifically for butchering
0
u/chefbobbyjay 15h ago
These aren’t silkies. There are only a couple breeds that have melanated meat and these aren’t them. These would have regular dark and white meat.
1
u/Pieniek23 13h ago
Can I get source as to why are you being that dense? You should remove the chef part of your username cause you know nothing about food.

Preperation of Chicken Shawarma:
Step 1: Veg Shawarma
