Price Changes Domino effects from Trump's Iran War—Saudi Arabia being attacked only worsens the shortage and increases oil prices again

From this article:

"Oil prices rose to near two-week highs on Monday as attacks on Saudi Arabia overshadowed possible further supplies to the market after US President Donald ‌Trump hailed fresh Russian diesel exports and a Russia-Ukraine energy ceasefire.

The Iran-aligned Houthis claimed responsibility for a Saturday strike on Riyadh's international airport that killed 13 people and wounded more than 300. Further attacks happened on Sunday.

In addition, more attacks on tankers sailing through the Strait of Hormuz have been reported this month, threatening to dampen a recovery in Middle East crude exports seen in September."

So. Much. Winning.

Price Changes Electric socket quote

Recently, I bought a portable generator. I paid around $1000 for it. I did not know that I needed to hire an electrician to an install a special connector from the electrical box inside my basement to the outside for the generator to connect to.

So I got two local estimates from two electricians. The first came over and looked around and emailed me a quote for $1100 with no breakdown of what those costs were. The second guy came over took a bunch of pictures of my generator in my electrical box and then wrote up a detailed quote for $2100 of which 700 labor. I’m in Connecticut so I understand maybe labor is inflated a little bit. So I hired the first guy in the labor took Max three hours so let’s call it at $150 an hour or $450. the parts would cover the balance. Which means that the second guy quoting me $700 of labor for the same three hours worth of work was charging almost $250 an hour for labor. How is this not a crime? All these people are supposed to be licensed in someway isn’t there any regulatory body looking at what these idiots are charging? It’s beyond frustrating.

Price Changes RAM prices (3 year difference)

I know this has probably been talked about endless times in this subreddit, but I’m new here so go easy on me. It’s only really hit me now how insane RAM prices have increased.

I’m currently building my girlfriend a PC and the last component needed for her build is, of course, RAM.

That led me to look at what I paid for my Corsair Dominator DDR5 32gb sticks and my jaw dropped. I purchased them for $95 used on amazon 3 in August of 2023 and now they’re going for over $500 minimum whenever you look.

So happy I upgraded my ram when I did.

Price Changes Prices of apples staying high for the fall?

Thumbnail gallery

This seems such a little nitpicky thing, but we are in autumn now, and I was hoping to see the prices of apples decrease. I use them in so many recipes and appreciate how inexpensive they are during harvest time, but I’ve yet to see a decrease in price. Even looking at the Wayback Machine cached pages for my local grocery chain, I see the prices have actually increased per pound from last fall. Is this just the direct result of fewer farm laborers? Smaller supply? Greed?
