Healthy debate includes challenging each other’s ideas. That’s how ideas become stronger. It’s how we all improve!
A person’s idea is NOT their identity. It’s like a hat. They try it on, it looks ugly, then take it off. It’s ok! It’s not who they are.
Calling an idea/action/statement “condescending” is OK. Calling a person "condescending ass" is NOT OK.
You can feel offended when people attack your ideas, it’s human nature. It’s normal. Try your best to not take it personally, and not make it personal.

PS. Hi! I am your new moderator. I have been working in the field of women's health for 14 years, alongside my mom who is an OBGYN who had a hysterectomy.
The previous moderator abandoned this sub and I adopted it because I want to help you and serve you all.
This is my first official action as moderator. We need to pursue truth. Science is all about challenging and testing ideas, without ego. We need to do our best to have healthy debate.
why do you think it's okay for a man to run women's health focused subreddit, especially a man who isn't a doctor or ob/gyn, and has no experience in this field, other than running to his mommy to ask.
Hey Kevin. Im guessing you only take over women’s subreddits and sell your shitty supplements as a reason to talk about vaginas all day because you’ve never seen one in person.
Hey Kevin, understandable about personal attacks. I respect that, and thank you for only giving me a warning. I will endeavor to do better.
However, one of the things I take serious issue with this post is that the information is being presented as fact, when it is not entirely correct and it is biased. For example, removing the cervix does not completely guarantee no longer needing pap smears. The infographic does not cover any of the cons of it, nor does it touch on potential positives of keeping the cervix. It also parrots some medical information that has been called into question in recent years due to the misogyny that exists in the healthcare system. I called it out as a problem specifically because of what you say: we need to pursue truth.
The post IS also condescending. It is unkind to people who are debating about this. It is unkind to people who do feel an attachment to their cervix. Some people don't at all, and that's super fine and valid. But some people do, as it is a part of them, and that is also super fine and valid. Being dismissive of those feelings is damaging.
Finally, I do not believe there should be a place here to use AI to generate a problematic infographic and then lie about it when confronted. This is supposed to be a safe space about an extremely sensitive, medical topic. If people challenge this safe space by being disingenuous, judgmental, and biased on top of being a liar, and present themselves as such while also suggesting they may be an expert, I will challenge them back with similar energy.
I don't think any special standards are needed for ensuring AI generated content doesn't clog up the subreddit. If it's AI, post gets deleted and user warned. If they repeat offend then giving then a final warning, do it again and you're out of the sub.
As others have said this very obviously AI graphic is not only being passed off as original work, but also as fact and that is dangerous. Where are the sources for the facts presented in this graphic?
Many people are unable to spot AI easily and quickly fall into the trap of believing and sharing this type of content.
If this post stays up, unsuspecting future users will search for cervix related posts and this will likely be the thing that turns up in their search, a biased, opinion based infographic.
Asides from the tone deaf condescension of the original post, OP is being antagonistic in the comments with anyone who isn't in support of their post and writing off anything missing or offbase in the infographic as "not trying to be bean soup" rather than admitting this is perhaps an issue too complex to be captured by a simple poster and thats why there is so much discussion on the sub about it. If OP isn't willing to support healthy discourse about their post, I don't see why it should remain posted here.
Edit: I see now the new mod is some dude who takes over womens health subreddits to promote shady supplements, so appealing for actual moderation is a waste of time. Will be joining the women ran r/hersterectomy instead 🏃♀️ 🏃♀️ 🏃♀️
The difficult thing is how do we know what's true and what's a lie? What standards do we set?
Why are you acting like this is in any way a difficult question? There's no way you should be moderating a subreddit about an issue as sensitive as this one.
Edit: Learned this new mod is a man taking over womens health subs to sling shady supplements, so asking for genuine moderation is a waste of time. Off to women ran r/hersterectomy instead 🏃♀️ 🏃♀️ 🏃♀️ 🏃♀️
Agree that we shouldn’t be making personal attacks, but then shouldn’t we also remove posts that are basically making an attack on people that come to this sub asking questions and voicing their concerns about a part of this procedure? This entire post is mean spirited to anyone who doesn’t comply with OP’s opinion - “logical fallacy” is code for OP saying “you’re stupid if you think there’s any reason to keep your cervix”
I don’t think we have to get too complex or make it harder to moderate for future posts - I think this falls under personal attacks. OP is saying that if you’re questioning keeping your cervix and asking those questions on this sub, that it’s a “logical fallacy” - they are being mean spirited. This is one that would fall into the grey area that the mods essentially exist for - that personal judgement from a mod that says “this post is mean spirited, not helpful, and is judgmental in a way that will prevent other people asking questions to get help.”
I do believe that we should also ban AI graphics and material; people can recommend AI as they’d like, but that should be in their own personal lives and not placed upon everyone else.
Yeah no. Just no. One look at your post history is enough for me to jump on the bandwagon and add my voice.
Fuck allllllllll the way off with your supplements. Hundreds of people (and thousands of upvotes/downvotes) have made themselves clear that we don't want you here.
I hate outing myself but I kinda have to for my point to be valid.
As a man myself, a trans man who needed a hysto, I came here for advice on healing and to help give advice to others healing now that I've had my hysterectomy.
The last damn thing I need is a CIS man coming in here like he owns the place. Hell, I feel uncomfortable posting as is!
What gives you the authority to speak on behalf of those with uteruses, or who are soon to have them removed? Your mother? I don't post on behalf of my mother. That's her business to share.
I've only ever had horrible experiences with women's reproductive healthcare so knowing that's your specialty, I feel extra uncomfortable.
A bunch of the really vocal people also want you to leave. No one wants a moderator who isn't part of the community. There's no need for you to kill this sub and force everyone else to move to a new one, which is what's going to happen.
Do you think that would be the fair response? Mob justice?
This post brought out the very thing I was trying to combat. Emotional reasoning overruling demonstrable evidence, decades of research, and the standard of care for hysterectomies.
That doesn’t mean I’m wrong, that I’m unkind, that I lack empathy or that I am any of the insults that have been hurled at me.
And I really don’t like having a man telling me how I should behave when I’m not at all out of line, nor has anything I said been inaccurate. Why should I be censored, what is your motivation for saying that to me?
If there are decades of research why didn’t you share any?? It really doesn’t take long to find research negating some of your AI infographic’s claims.
as i said, any new criticism. both in here, but in the last hour alone there have been several posts criticizing how this situation was handled and offering suggestions to improve moderation and they've all been nuked within a few minutes.
Like the thread has gone imo very fucking weird, almost like it's been shared somewhere.
If it's devolved into shit flinging, (which it has) it should be locked and comments that are personal insults should be removed.
There are also people weirdly following other people to other subs, which is harrasment.
I agree with some of the comments here but it's a mess.
The other threads I saw were also messy.
If people want to have a change in moderator there are better ways to go about it.
Edit: If anyone feels the need to be all aggressive with me in the comments, I will just block you so consider it an exercise in futility.
There are actually no „good“ ways for a community to demand a change in moderators if there is literally only one moderator in control of the entire sub and that moderator is refusing to relinquish control.
So our only option is to call him out and make him as uncomfortable and unwelcome as possible, whenever possible, so he will actually get the point that we don’t want him here and have no intention of respecting him.
Until he turns over moderation to someone who 1. has/had a uterus or 2. has a medical degree relevant to uteruses, this sub is no longer a safe or reliable space.
Edit: we can and should try reporting him for conduct violations (integrity), here’s a guide, but ime this alone will not likely be enough.
How does your MOM being an ob and having a hysterectomy in any way make you a CIS MAN qualified to run this sub? My uncle is a pilot and you don’t see me trying to fly a plane.
