How many pairs of glasses do you have and use regularly?

Hi all fellow... blind people... 😜

My eyesight got a little worse so I am starting to wear glasses. I rarely wore sunglasses before so my knowledge about frames, lenses and everything else regarding this matter is, basically, non existent.

Anyway, I got two pairs that I like a lot, which was my original plan. I don't move around a lot so my plan was to have one pair for work and one pair at home. I would use that other (home) pair when I go out. Now I am thinking of getting 1-2 more pairs because... We all lose / break things here and there, right? What if I lose my glasses? I 'll have to go to ophthalmologist and make another pair (when this happens, I'll either have to take whatever stock frame he / she has at that time or I'll have to spend some time searching for the frame and then some additional time to fit the lenses). On the other hand, I see my wife having trillion pairs of shoes, as if she is a centipede, and I have only 2-3 pairs and... I get around so... How many pairs of glasses is enough?

Has anyone spent years struggling to find glasses that are actually comfortable? What finally worked for you?

I’m 50 year old male and have been struggling with spectacle comfort for around five years. I’m wondering whether anyone else has experienced something similar and, more importantly, whether you’ve found a solution.

I have hyperopia, astigmatism, different prescriptions in each eye, and presbyopia. I wear progressive lenses, and the frustrating thing is that my vision through my best glasses is genuinely excellent. I’m very happy with the optical correction.

The problem is the frames themselves.

I’ve tried different frames, materials, opticians, expensive progressive lenses and numerous adjustments. I seem to keep cycling through the same problems:

Glasses sliding down my nose
Lenses sitting too close to or touching my eyelashes.
Pressure around my nose, temples or sides of my head.
Adjustments fixing one issue but creating another.
Being constantly conscious of the glasses on my face, rather than simply forgetting I’m wearing them.

I’ve spent an embarrassing amount of money on glasses trying to solve this, without lasting success.

What makes it particularly frustrating is that if I could find glasses comfortable enough to put on in the morning and forget about, I’d be completely happy. I don’t actually mind wearing glasses, and I love the clarity my progressives give me.

I’ve even started investigating laser vision correction and refractive lens exchange, not because I dislike my corrected vision, but because I’m exhausted by the physical factors. However, surgery involves compromises and risks, particularly when my existing corrected vision is so good.

I’d really like to hear from people who’ve been through something similar.

Did you eventually find a frame or fitting approach that solved the problem? Was there a particular type of optical dispenser or specialist who made the difference? Did you move to contact lenses or surgery, and are you genuinely happier with that choice?

I’m particularly interested in people’s real experiences, including unsuccessful attempts, rather than just being told to get my frames adjusted again.

The funny thing is I used to wear sunglasses frequently and never remember giving them a moments thought.

Thanks. I’d appreciate hearing what actually worked for you.

can glasses make my eyesight permanently better?

while i was ordering my glasses, the optician said i should wear my glasses more as they could help fix my eyes (they claimed that they wore theirs all the time and their prescription lessened significantly) is this true or am i just feeling insecure in my glasses for no reason.

also, j have a +8 prescription in both eyes and i feel so insecure about my eyes looking so large, has anyone found a solution or way to feel confident/better?

Brand new glasses, what could these lines be?

My friend got these glasses last week, she started noticing these lines appear whenever she looks at the lenses against a bright light or her computer screen, you can't see them in low or regular light, only against something really bright, any idea what these could be? She's been taking proper care of them, she's still going to the store and ask since she just got them but I wanted to ask here first to know more about it maybe

Can I find high-quality or authentic frames at flea markets or thrift shops for cheap, and then take them to an optician to put in prescription lenses ?"

Looking a cheaper version of my current glasses

Does anybody know of a sturdy frame in the P-3 FUL-VUE, Marshwood round (it probably has a couple of other names) shape?

This is the original. The company stopped making them though.

It's the only shape I've worn for about 50 years.

My current glasses.

My current pair is Oliver Peoples, but they are a bit pricey.

My prescription is myopia, -7, -8

Why are my glasses permanently smudged??

I bought them at a really expensive independent optician 1.5 years ago and prob 4 m ago they got a smudge I just can’t remove. Maybe scratches also but it’s the smudge I really hate. It’s like looking through Vaseline— absolutely maddening. I finally got a new scrip last week & will order new glasses, but I don’t want to repeat the mistake.

They’re transition lenses- could it be that? Something else?

Should I be wearing my new glasses all day?

I had a test done and got glasses a couple years ago but lost them about a year ago and it was relatively mild so I put off getting new ones until this week but as it was over 2 years I got retested and was told my astigmatism worsened in my right eye and was given a new script of R: +0.5 SPH -1.5 CYL and L +0.25 SPH and -0.5 CYL.

I don't have record of my old prescription and didn't ask exact values but I think both my left and right eye were very similar back then so I think the left stayed the same and the right got worse by -1 CYL. I forgot to ask if this was due to me not wearing them for a while and whether or not I should be wearing the new ones basically full time when they come in or just for computer/ reading tasks.

Can someone explain what my eye doctor said to me

I am 24M and have been wearing glasses for 10 years and I always on/watch/work/play with electronic devices 6-10 a day

Last time I bought glasses was back in 2021 BUT today it cracked and got s new one so for 5 years didn’t bought or went to an eye doctor

But the eye Doctor asked “does your glasses has protection for watching electronics and said No

Then told me i have half deviation on one eye and 3.5 on the other is that really bad?

Sometimes “very rarely” when I play videogames my eyes get red so I stop what I am doing and clean my face

Also my old glasses were plastic and now they’re very chopped per say but i can still see clearly

She said I might see afterimages that shouldn’t be there Which sometimes I do feel like it but only when I am alone “i genuinely don’t if any of this help”

Impossible to get frames for big heads and no nose bridge?

Apparently I'm a freak of nature. I have a 8 inch wide head with virtually no nose bridge.

I spent 2 days going around most shops in my city and I cannot find a pair of frames that would fit me. I'm now resorting to buying online. Can anyone recommend frames/brands for freaks like me?

Preferably matte black and rectangular with minimal branding.

Different PD measurements for progressives — 62, 62.5, and 63. Which should I use?

I’m ordering progressive glasses online for my mother and I’m trying to make sure I use the right PD.

She has had a few professional measurements:

  • Kaiser: 31.5 R / 31.5 L = 63 total
  • Costco previously: 32.0 R / 30.5 L = 62.5 total
  • Costco recently re-measured her at 62 total, but they only gave the combined number.

The Kaiser measurement was used for a pair of progressive glasses she already owns and likes wearing.

From what I understand, an adult’s actual PD shouldn’t really change, so I’m assuming these differences are mostly measurement/rounding differences.

For a new pair of progressives, would you use the 31.5/31.5 measurement since she already sees comfortably through glasses made with it, or would the newer 62 total measurement make you choose something different?

Is a 0.5–1 mm total difference likely to matter much with progressives?
