*NEW* Account age requirement

Hey everyone! Mods here. We have made a small change to the subreddit: accounts now need to be at least 90 days old to post or comment. This change was made because we have been absolutely inundated with AI slop accounts for the last few months. We’re really sorry if this is frustrating for anyone who is a real person with a new account who just genuinely wants to participate. We appreciate your understanding, and are so thankful for everyone who contributes and makes this such a fun little corner of the internet.

Media I love that Hulu recognizes that the biggest indicator that you’re going to watch Gilmore Girls is that you’ve watched Gilmore Girls.

Character Discussion - General Unpopular opinion: Zach is overhated

Post image
534 Upvotes

I get it - Lane was supposed to live a free live, independent.. and being married at such a young age & followed by a twin pregnancy is a lot. But I still think Zach doesn’t deserve all the hate. He is honest, loyal and a loving father for the twins. He did some dumb stuff before Lane and him became serious, but gosh, he was young. We all do dumb stuff when we were young.

Critical Character Discussion I get why Dean became so insecure

• Upvotes

I didn’t like Dean’s character progression after season 1, but can see why he’s losing his mind.

Dean seems to be trying his best to be a good boyfriend to Rory and makes efforts to befriend Lorelai and Lane. He also shows a lot of respect towards the things that Rory cares about.

Meanwhile - People in town constantly give him a hard time, Emily and Richard are always yelling at him and he’s just a 16 year old navigating his first or second relationship.

On top of that Rory seems to keep befriending random jerks (Tristan - creep and Jess - rude and disrespectful) who go out of their way to goad Dean and are deeply disrespectful towards him and Rory.

He should’ve broken things off with her because that whole situation was more trouble than it was worth.

Character Discussion - General lorelai sticking up for Emily

Post image
30 Upvotes

just watching the episode where Jason cancels emily's launch party and lorelai yells at him. I really like it because it debunks the "lorelai didn't appreciate Emily" takes. There are more instances where she stood up for Emily too:

When gran is making Emily crashout and lorelai tells Emily to consider it as humor and not take criticism too seriously

In the whole gran chaos lorelai telling Richard to cut Emily some slack because she misses him and is being driven crazy by his mother

When Rory was rude to Emily at her 16th birthday and lorelai tells her to apologize by inviting Richard and Emily to her stars hollow birthday

when Rory moves out of the pool house, Emily is distraught (buying a plane) and lorelai comforts her

Same context, lorelai forces Rory and her parents to sit down and resolve their issues at dinner

Lorelai buys Emily a VCR because Emily seems lonely and bored due to Richards busy schedule

At gran's death she consoles Emily and plans the whole funeral

These are all I can remember rn but do comment if u remember any others!

Character Discussion - General IMO Rory was really good at organising events

Post image
124 Upvotes

I think she did amazing at organising events and her time at the DAR I think she really shined. I also liked how she managed all the waiters, I think she was a great leader. This ties in with her time at the Yale daily news as editor: she had to organise articles and meet deadlines and I think again she led the team really well.
Why was she not allowed to explore this further? I think because everyone had the same opinion about her and what she should be doing with her life: Richard, Lorelai, even Jess. But what if Rory actually liked the high society life? She enjoyed dinner with her grandparents, she chose Logan, a high society boy, she enjoyed her time at the DAR and she was good at it.
Journalism? Who’s actual dream was that?

Character Discussion - General Confusion re: Paris and Rory

• Upvotes

I always see people being very critical of Rory online and how she’s selfish and entitled and generally not likeable/a good person. I also see that a lot of the same people are big fans of Paris and she gets quite a lot of praise.

It makes me wonder, why does Paris get so much more grace than Rory when there are many occasions she is thoroughly unpleasant, especially to Rory?

General Discussion What's your favorite cold take?

What's your favorite, (almost) universally agreed upon, "hot" take that pops up here, like clockwork? OP can't sleep. It's eating them alive. There's nobody to call. They Google frantically for an audience. They drop in to preach to the choir, as if they've discovered sliced bread.

ETA: Repetitive, confidently wrong takes too, ones that are easily debunked.

General Discussion Bun Heads- GG adjacent

I started Bun Heads last Friday and I love it! ASP is amazing at quitting for very specific characters/actors and I think that shows true the more of her shows you watch. The dance studio is giving Miss Patty and I love that Kelly Bishop’s character is still very Emily at the core. The character of Michelle feels like it was written for a young Lauren Graham but of course is being played by Sutton Foster so at times I think it feels a bit awkward having known the character of Lorelai so well beforehand

OS Discussion There are so many things that Lorelai doesn’t know about the “Gilmore Way” and it doesn’t make sense to me

I’m a once a year rewatcher and most things don’t bother me too much as far as inconsistency, but this one has always irked me. Richard and Emily are sooooo big on the traditions of Gilmores and there are so many things that it seems like Lorelai has no idea about which doesn’t make sense to me considering those are her parents who absolutely would have forced those things on her in her childhood. The main example I can think of is the Yale and Harvard football game. There’s no way that Lorelai wouldn’t have been forced to go to the tailgates and do all of those traditions growing up, but when her and Rory go it’s like she has no idea that Richard and Emily do this every year. They even say in the episode that they’ve had tickets for 32 years meaning that would have started when Lorelai was like 3. There are definitely other examples but I just saw this episode so it’s the one on my brain now. I know this is trivial and if Lorelai knew everything then we wouldn’t get all of her reactions, but it definitely doesn’t make sense lol

Edit- I’m realizing now that it makes a lot of sense that wealthy Richard and Emily didn’t take their child to a tailgate lol. But I still would have thought with how passionate Richard is that he would have wanted Lorelai to have Yale in her blood and introduce her to those things early on.

General Discussion Lorelai’s nightmares

Post image
19 Upvotes

rewatching season 7, episode 13. Rory and Lorelai are talking about how the day feels like a nightmare since Richard is in the hospital. Lorelai mentioned she knows she’s dreaming if she looks down and sees she’s not wearing shoes. They chalk it up to being afraid of losing her shoes, but I looked it up this time and I thought it very much suited her. It typically means you’re afraid of not being able to take on upcoming challenges, loss of stability in relationships (especially since this is when her and Chris are fighting about Luke) and just generally feeling ungrounded in your waking life. I’m sure ASP wrote it in as a base level joke for Lorelai to be silly, but the meaning really connects to her at this moment!

Revival Discussion I was so excited about the revival right after finishing the series and now I'm halfway through SUMMER and I can't stand it

Everyone was so off. Aside from Babette and Taylor, everyone feels off. Heck, Lane was even more Lane than Rory was Rory. You know what I mean? I was so excited to watch this but I really hate the musical. What was even the point? Classic GG would just show a couple seconds of what was happening like when Kirk was doing his own performance of The Journey of Man from the original series and when Miss Patty was singing. I was so looking forward to this AYITL and now, I just feel like whoever did the revival didn't watch the original. Lorelai should have been married to Luke within their first year of getting back together realistically. The plot they did here was so out of character.

Logan would not be in contact with Rory anymore if the writing is consistent. He already walked out of the relationship. And Rory would not cheat with Logan for real. This isn't her. They wanted Rory to have failure so bad, they disconnected her from her own character.

General Discussion pop culture references

to those that were teenagers or adults as the show the was aired, did you understand all the references to actors or tv shows or movies??

i’ve clocked some of them but as lorelai was born in 1968, making her 16 in 1984, a lot of the references are way before my time and probably most other fans of gilmore girls.

did you find the references funny or like fitting for the scene they was used etc..

General Discussion Gilmore Girls Birthday Party Themes

hi everyone!

i am trying to plan a birthday party for a fellow gilmore girls fan and we are trying to do centerpieces that capture all the seasons in Stars Hollow. so some tables will have winter, others spring, summer and fall.

for winter, we have a cutout of the dragonfly inn that is decorated Christmas themed and some faux snow and wooden snowflakes.

for spring, we have yellow daisies in mason jars filled with coffee beans on stacks of books.

for fall, we have Luke’s Diner mugs filled with coffee beans and a candle on top and some fake leaves to scatter around the table.

for summer though we are kinda stumped, what iconic things could represent summer that we don’t already have?

thanks in advance :)
