What’s the BEST EDC light?

Hey everyone, what do y’all think is the best EDC light? Something similar to this or just a pretty damn good EDC light in general. Thanks!

We call these flat lights, and I only have a few of them. From what I've gathered by looking at others online, there isn't really a best one. They're all similar quality with the exception of some of the cheapest ones. I would just pick one in your budget with the features you want. Check wurkkos, loop gear, wuben, and rovyvon for starters.

“The best” is uber subjective term. My choice is polar opposite (Zebralight SC65c HI).

Check out the Wurrkos HD01. If you’re going for a light with a non-replaceable battery, might as well spend 1/4 of the $.

Been carrying the the HD01 Pro as my edc for a few months now. Very fun and functional, love having so many options.

There's no such thing. It depends on your needs.

I have the Arkpro Ultra. It does everything that Olight claims it can do. But for the price it doesn’t seem to be worth it. At 1700 lumens it really doesn’t seem any brighter than my old 1000 lumen Fenix PD35 v2,0. The laser is ok but I don’t really need a laser pointer. The UV is really good, but just a novelty for me as well. The size and shape I do love, it disappears in my pocket. If it were $60 I couldn’t recommend it enough, (another but coming) but not for $129. I got a good deal with discounts and coupons so it cost $95, but it was still too much money for it.

I feel the same way with my ultra. But I like my wurkkos HD02 more except the weight.

Depends on what you want it for, and what size you can carry.

It's really gonna depend like others have said. For me, I just have a Rovyvon Aurora A1 on my keychain. It's pretty rare that I'm doing anything after the sun sets to warrant anything bigger than a keychain light really, and when I am it's because I'm doing a night shift at work where I carry an L35 2.0.

“It’s the one that’s always with you” that’s said, I’m always carrying the ArkPro Ultra. It has every type of light I need. I hate the way it looks but I love the way it fits in the pocket. After so many drops it still looks pristine.

The two main drawback of the Arkfeld line are:

  1. Integrated (non-replaceable/non-repairable) battery which means that it is locked in to performance degradation over time until it eventually has so short runtimes (especially in high modes) that it becomes very poor performing, which contrasts with other flashlights which can last you decades because you can just put in a new cell. Smaller batteries suffer from this more noticeably than larger ones. At the price the Arkfelds are many if us find it completely unreasonable to spend that amount on something doomed with a limited service life when there are other options.

  2. Low-CRI and cold white emitters which are not only subjectively disliked but also objectively poorer in real-world performance, Olight (despite their premium positioning and unlike even budget brands like Convoy) does not offer any high-CRI emitter options and even their few "neutral" emitters on the Arkfelds are cool in comparison. Low-CRI makes the light appear dimmer than it actually is, washes out colours making object identification take longer, and makes the scene less appealing. Cold light increases eye strain, increases bounceback in fog/precipitation, appears unpleasant and 'offensive' in some settings. Olight refuses to give the option for more well balanced emitters, originally it was because these had better on-paper stats which they could advertise, now I think it's just out of spite.

There are a couple of other issues on the previous models such as the beam dispersion being too wide so demanding higher outputs which the light could not sustain for long, no ZWB2 filter for the UV and unnecessarily low laser output for the EU.

That said, I do own an Arkfeld Ultra and carry it regularly, it's an attractive and highly convenient light, I do enjoy using it and have genuine uses for the UV, laser, magnet and form. It just loses a lot of points for the main emitter performance and optic choice so far.
