Updates Sofirn IF22A V2

Post image

Does anyone have a review or thoughts on the V2 Sofirn IF22A? I can't find any reviews or info online and am curious if it is worth the $10 extra over the beloved original.

It is still FET-based (no Buck) and no TIR this time. I’m not sure why they came up with such configuration (and I’m surely skipping it).

If they were going with an FET and smooth reflector they might aswell put an SFT60 and high drain battery in it IMO

Yeah the V1 sounds way more appealing. And their TIR is fantastic.

My fav Wurkkos is the TS11 V1. I have the V2 also and not as fun. The V1 was FUN.

Anyone have a good recommendation on an alternative?

Convoy M21H, very similar

or Noctigon DM11

TS11 is the Wurkkos counterpart

I'd even say DA1K.

As u/macomako also mentioned, the driver didn't change. Considering how the original one overreported the lumen output already (1800lm at turn on), I have trouble believing the 3200lm claim with the new led.

To me, the TIR is what made the IF22A the interesting light it is, so it's a shame to see it replaced by a smooth reflector.

Same scenario with the TS11's. I don't think I'd like them without the TIR lens. Smooth is kinda boring and requires a bigger head lots of the time.

They switched out the TIR with the flawless beam?

It's like they ripped out it's soul.

Indeed. I waited a few years for the Buck version they kept hinting about. I have therefore ordered Manker MC13 with the optional 21700 battery tube.

Removing the TIR removes the whole point of the original.

There's basically no reason to get the newer version. The FET driver was the biggest crippling factor for the original version, and porting it over simply assures that you'd barely notice or can take advantage of the newer SFT42R. Running from the TIR just further diminishes the light's value and efficacy.

If they are going SMO, why not just buy a TS28 at this point? Sure a little less distance but probably a more usable beam profile and buck driven.

Who remembers the IF22? (non A, reflector version). Seems very rare these days!

I remember that, and as a TIR enthusiast, I neglected it as well.

Yeah the IF22A was my first TIR ever. I really liked the beam profile so got a DM11 after, and a SF26, and a....

I ended up using dc fix on my original, so I’m intrigued by the updated one. But, I’m afraid at 3200 lumens it’s going to have worse thermal problems than the original.

I love the form factor, wish it had a rear clicky switch on it.

Did you consider SK40?

SK40 is larger and heavier.

The main interesting thing about the original was the TIR in such a small, pocketable light.

Also, it got hot really fast with the FET driver, and this one will get hot even faster.

This looks like an overall downgrade to me. An upgrade would've been a better driver and the SFT42R with the same TIR.

I love the if22a because it's such a great modern image of the classic flashlight shape. I would seriously consider this v2 if I didn't read it was still the same trash driver. I already have an sft42r 5000k from simon that I've been meaning to put into mine, way cheaper and still has the tir...

My IF22A doesn't stop charging, so I'll pass.
