Ever since Gemini replaced Google Assistant, I'm unable to tell Google to play music from YouTube music, because Gemini doesn't do that.

Gemini doesn't even like turning the lights on in my house. Sometimes it does, sometimes it makes me unlock my phone first. Half the time it pretends not to know which device I'm talking about. The real frustrating one is my Vornado fan. It pretends in asking it to stop a tornado, or it pretends not to know how to pronounce Vornado. Then 15 minutes later it will pronounce it correctly.
Gemini is so inconsistent and constantly gaslighting me. Google Assistant just did what I freaking asked it to do.

The loss of ability to locally run matter apps and Google products and everything going though the cloud is dumb

I hate that Gemini talks back. I haven't figured out how to make it follow commands silently. Before I could ask my phone to turn on my bedroom lights and the lights would just come on. Now I have to hear a creepy voice talk about my bedroom lights if I want to use my smart lights.

Have you given Gemini permission to connect with your YouTube Music? Mine works fine in the car (for both music and navigation).

It took me about an hour, but I figured it out finally because of your advice, thanks

Could you share with us the steps to make it work?

In your Chrome browser, and make sure you are logged into your Google account, type in Gemini.google.com/extensions
You should see a list of extensions available, scroll down to YouTube music, for example, and turn it on.
Edit: I forgot to mention to make sure your activities are turned on, go here...

It does?
At least it does for me. What it doesn't do is work half the fucking time.

It's absolutely shit. I used to be able to tell Google Assistant to play a specific Spotify playlist. It's useful to be able to do that while driving.
Now Gemini just plays a random song that it thinks is close enough to the name of the playlist.
When I asked Google Assistant to skip a track, it just did it. But Gemini has to say "Ok, skipping to the next track" out loud before it does it.
It also takes longer to do anything.

Yeah, my first world problem was that Gemini was terrible when I installed it during an update in my luxury car. Disabled it and went back to Google Assistant.

My review on gemini was "You took my favorite automated tool assistant and replaced it with the free version of chatgpt"

It's horrible. It's broken my android auto. It is not safe for me to search for the song I want on YouTube music while I am driving.... Before I just pressed the microphone button on my steering wheel, asked for the song, and I was good. Now they say I don't have a YouTube music subscriptionwhich I do!!!!Β Don't get me started about the Google home mini speaker I have. It is literally useless now because we didn't opt into Gemini for that. It cannot answer any questions other than what's the weather or the time or set a timer. I used to be able to ask it stuff about game scores, where to store a vegetable, etc. and it would Google it for me...

Itβs awful. Either it unpairs with Apple Music, or it opens it and just sits and thinks forever until I unplug it and plug it back in. I wish we had another option for a voice activated Bluetooth speaker

Gemini doesn't do a lot of things that the Google assistant did. I got mad o e day and went in a loop asking why it's been enshitified basically and why our progress is going backwards. Being honest I was having a bad day.

My google home is still running on the og software and it keeps prompting me to turn on Gemini. I'm holding out as long as humanly possible. Realistically, I'm sure they will get to the point where they just force it but they'll take me kicking and screaming.

If you are using an android phone, go to your google app's app info page and uninstall updates for it. Also turn off auto update for it on play store. This can help temporarily but when your OS updates the base Google app version to the newer ones you won't be able to switch back to assistant as newer apks lose the menu that allows it.

I can't even say "navigate to..." anymore. It's a big letdown.
