I'm getting older, Expedition 33 may be the greatest game I experience in my lifetime.

Hey all I am a 37 year old man, married and overall have a pretty good life. Growing up as a kid, my dad always saw video games as a way to keep us out of trouble, didn't get into drugs, and we were too nerdy for relationships (kidding!) But I've been gaming since it was becoming mainstream with the first Nintendo and still play games nowadays with my wife.
I played and got to play and experience the release of so many heavy hitters that blew everyone's minds from back then to today. Castlevania:Symphony of the Night. Final Fantasy 7. Hell Final Fantasy 10. Mass Effect. Bioshock. Half Life. Dark Souls. Ocarina of Time. Chrono Trigger. Silent Hill, Resident Evil Etc. You get it.
I always grew up enjoying story driven games, in my childhood I took a liking to RPG's spent many days playing them or watching my dad playing the first Baldur's Gate.

I 100% Expedition 33 when it released not knowing a single thing about the game, the thing that brought me in was a small facebook clip of a battle with the prologue mime and I thought it art design was really cool and the combat looked fun and unique for a turn based rpg.
I still think about moments in the game today, and it has taken its place as my favorite game of all time. A spot that Final Fantasy 9 has held since my childhood.

The characters are incredibly well written and felt pretty realistic to me, Well, besides interactions withVerso, the plot and twist all of it I never saw coming, I think mostly because I was soaking in the world as the party saw it rather than trying to solve its secrets before the reveal. There were moments I thought 'Wait, did I hear that right?' But couldn't help but move on waiting for the game to give me the answers for questions I had.

I don't know if I ever shed a tear over a game until E33. Maybe I have, But not like this.

Just wanted to do a little appreciation post for this game, I know its not all that for some people, but for myself I don't think anything else will ever dethrone this game.
I sure hope to be proven long if it gives me another experience like this in my lifetime though.

Ran into François while hiking today. He turned his back to me and wasn’t very talkative. Still grumpy as always.

Theory Theory: the man had an engineering background Spoiler

Alicia confirms in her epilogue that Renoir is great with his hands, when she hints he will fix the damaged walls himself alongside Clea. If you observe the Reacher level, especially around the workshop of the friendly Orphelin (implied to be Renoir’s avatar) it’s littered with engineering contraptions that the game explicitly notes would appeal to Gustave.

The Orphelin was especially proud of the wings he made for Maelle, and Renoir dons it himself in the last battle. The glider (along with that “tank” in the workshop) was clearly influenced from the works of Da Vinci - a known painter-engineer.

Aline makes it clear she was the one that taught Renoir how to paint, and the official artbook apparently states Renoir came from a less prominent family than Aline’s. This implies he’s of lower socioeconomic background than his artist wife, which adds plausibility he was originally trained in engineering, for financial reasons.

Noticeably, if Renoir did in fact had an engineering background, and given his close bond with Alicia, the “positive imprint theory” (when daughters gravitate towards men resembling their fathers) adds an interesting spin to the relationship between Maelle and Gustave - another engineer.

Just a theory.

Discussion Has anyone else gotten their copy of Horde of the Counterwind? Guillaume said this book was a huge inspiration for the game. I picked up my copy today at B&N and I’m about to dig in.

This is not a promotion post, btw.
I just remember the team at Sandfall talking about this book so much, I bought it in French only to put it down half way because my French is very basic. Now, there’s an official English translation for it I can dig my paws into. I’m stoked!

Jen asked for Maelle to be the strongest character in the game, and still needed an easy mode 😂

Both she and Ben are wearing For Hire shirts with Ben’s face on them. At the end she gave hers to the only Esquie cosplayer 🥰

Why didn't Verso do it? Spoiler

Why didn't Verso kill himself in Maelle's ending if, as people claim, he is no longer immortal and Maelle doesn't coerce him to do anything? He already tried in the past, why not try again if he suffers that much and knows it will work this time?

This isn't troll post or smth I'm just lost. I thought Verso is forced to live in M ending in one way or another and can't end his existence but people say Maelle made him mortal and he's free to do whatever he wants with this new found mortal life. Did I miss something?

Gameplay Wasn’t pretty… but WE FINALLY DID IT Spoiler

Thank you to the community for encouraging me to take on Simon after beating Clea. Once I realized this game was leaving game pass in a few days, I realized I had to finish this fight to complete everything in the game or else I wouldn’t be able to live with myself. Out of the endless tower bosses, I’d say I like Clea and Duollistes the best (fair fights and thoroughly enjoyed), then Simon (had some gimmicks but understandable as the ultimate final boss), and finally lampmaster (never fighting that mf again, gimmicky asf). It’s been an amazing journey of almost 200 hours of playtime and I’m so grateful to have experienced this game

Discussion Just Finished Act 1 Spoiler

I can't believe it, I saw it coming from the beginning thanks to a spoiler that I got, and I noticed that verso was pretty identical to Gustave, even seeing his skill tree locked, i knew something was coming, but not like this man, I'm so sad right now, I really liked him, and just knowing that we have to keep playing without my goat 💔💔
